Should you pick M.Tech VLSI at RVCE?

This course suits students who want a chip design job and are ready for two years of IC design labs.

Pick it if:
You want a chip design job: the ECE department lists Texas Instruments, Qualcomm, Intel, NXP and Synopsys among the companies that hire its students.
You want hands-on chip design: year 1 has labs in low power, analog and physical design, and semester 3 has an internship.
You want to stay in Bengaluru: Texas Instruments, Intel and Qualcomm have design offices in this city, so an internship does not mean moving.
You want your fee back fast: a median pay of INR 7 LPA pays back the INR 2.26 Lakhs fee within the first working year.
Skip it if:
You want a sure campus job: only 22 of the 41 ECE PG students were placed in 2022-23, so apply to companies on your own too.
You cannot wait past October: KEA has asked the Supreme Court for time to hold round 2, so its date is not fixed.
You need a college hostel room: RVCE has not published a PG hostel fee, so ask the Admission Cell about a room before you pay.
You want a software job: this course is about chips and circuits, and most companies on the ECE list hire for hardware roles.
Counsellor's advice
If RVCE gives you this seat in any round, take it. If your rank is far from the round 1 close, keep a safer college above it in your options.

MSRIT costs INR 14,000 less and placed more of its M.Tech batch, but its closing rank is much easier. If your rank clears RVCE, take RVCE; if it clears only MSRIT, take that seat.
In short
BMSCE placed a bigger share of its M.Tech batch, but its median pay is lower and its closing rank is much easier. If RVCE gives you a seat in any round, take it and keep BMSCE as your backup.
In short
DSCE matches the median pay and placed a bigger share of its M.Tech batch, with a much easier closing rank. If your rank misses RVCE in every round, list DSCE right below it.
In short
BMSIT pays a little less, places a smaller share and has fewer KEA seats. If RVCE gives you a seat in any round, take it and keep BMSIT only as a backup.

FAQs on RVCE M.Tech VLSI

Straight answers to what students ask before they decide.

Is M.Tech VLSI at RVCE worth the fee?▾
Yes, for most students on a PGCET seat. The full fee is INR 2.26 Lakhs for two years, and RVCE's M.Tech median pay was INR 7 LPA for the Class of 2024. So the first working year pays the fee back. On a management seat the tuition fee is INR 8 Lakhs a year, so check your budget first.
What job will I get after this course?▾
Most jobs are in chip design and embedded systems. The ECE department lists Texas Instruments, Qualcomm, Intel, NXP and Synopsys among its recruiters. In 2022-23, 22 of the 41 ECE PG students were placed, so prepare for off-campus interviews too. Use the internship in semester 3 to get a foot into one company.
Should I take this seat if my PGCET rank is worse than 161?▾
You can still hope for it, but do not count on it. The General seat closed at rank 161 in round 1 of 2026. In 2025, round 2 went down to 2,058, but KEA has not fixed a 2026 round 2 date. Keep RVCE high in your options and keep a safer college above your backup.
Who should not take this course?▾
Skip it if you want a software job or a sure campus offer. The course is about chips and circuits, and most recruiters on the ECE list hire for hardware roles. Only 22 of the 41 ECE PG students were placed in 2022-23. If you want software, look at a software M.Tech instead.
Is Bengaluru a good city for VLSI internships?▾
Yes. Texas Instruments, Intel and Qualcomm have design offices in Bengaluru, so you can do an internship without moving. Semester 3 of this course has an internship worth 6 credits. Start applying in semester 2 so you have an offer before semester 3 begins.
Should I take a job after B.E. instead of this M.Tech?▾
Take the M.Tech if you want chip design work, because those roles often ask for a master's degree. The course costs INR 2.26 Lakhs on a PGCET seat, and the M.Tech median pay was INR 7 LPA. If a job offer pays more than that now, compare both before you decide.
Is this course good for a Ph.D. or research later?▾
Yes, if you plan for it early. Semester 2 has a Research Methodology course, and semester 4 is a full major project. Pick a project with a faculty member and try to publish a paper from it. That is what a Ph.D. application needs.
Is it better to apply with GATE or PGCET?▾
GATE is better if you have a valid score. KEA gives seats to GATE score holders before PGCET rank holders, and a GATE student can get INR 12,400 a month from AICTE. If you do not have GATE, write the PGCET Electrical Science paper.
How do I get admission to this course?▾
Write PGCET in the Electrical Science paper or use a valid GATE score. Then check your documents and add RVCE VLSI in your options on the KEA portal. When KEA gives you the seat, pay INR 80,110 at KEA and INR 32,540 at RVCE by the last date, or you lose the seat.
What is the full fee for the course?▾
The full 2-year fee on a PGCET seat is INR 2.26 Lakhs without the college bus. With the bus it comes to INR 2.96 Lakhs. The fee block above shows each part. RVCE has not published a PG hostel fee, so ask the Admission Cell about it.
Can I get a management quota seat?▾
Yes. You email the trust that manages the college with your Class 10, Class 12 and degree marks cards, and the management office replies. The tuition fee on a management seat is INR 8 Lakhs a year, plus about INR 65,000 a year in other fees. Wait for their confirmation before you pay anything.
Which scholarships can I get here?▾
It depends on your category and family income. SC and ST students with income up to INR 2.5 Lakhs get the tuition fee of INR 1.49 Lakhs paid back. SC and ST students with income from INR 2.5 Lakhs to INR 10 Lakhs pay half the tuition fee. Use the scholarship calculator above to check your case.
