Should you pick M.Tech Machine Design at RVCE?
This course suits students who want design and analysis jobs in core mechanical, auto and aerospace companies.
Pick it if:
You want a design job in a core company: Bosch, Boeing, Kennametal and Textron are on the department's list of companies that hired its PG students.
You want to work on real industry projects: students take projects at HAL, NAL, ISRO, Bosch and Toyota, and the 8-week internship comes before semester 3.
You want most of the batch placed: 15 of 18 students got jobs in the Class of 2023.
You want to work on cars or electric vehicles: the department trains students with Mercedes-Benz and has an electric vehicle centre with MG Motor on campus.
Skip it if:
You are counting on a big package: the Class of 2023 averaged INR 6.2 LPA, down from INR 8.13 LPA the year before.
You expect a campus in the city centre: RVCE is on Mysore Road, about 13 km from the city railway station.
You plan to skip the round 1 seat and wait: in 2025 round 2 moved the General close only from 2,313 to 2,743.
You need the hostel fee before you decide: RVCE does not publish a PG hostel fee, so ask the hostel office before you pay anything.
Counsellor's advice
If round 1 gives you this seat on your PGCET rank, take Choice 1 and join. If you also have a GATE score, apply with it, because GATE students get seats first.

In short
BMSCE is easier to get and its M.Tech median pay is a little higher, but it places a smaller share. If your rank clears both, take RVCE; if it clears only BMSCE, take that seat.
In short
UVCE closed much later in round 1 and has more KEA seats, but it publishes no M.Tech placement figures. If RVCE is out of reach, list UVCE below it as the safer seat.
In short
GEC Hassan is a government college outside Bengaluru with an easier close. If you want a Bengaluru campus and its recruiters, keep RVCE above it in your options.
In short
REVA closed later in round 1 but offers only 5 KEA seats. If your rank misses RVCE, list REVA below it and take whichever seat comes first.
Fees and pay can change. Check each college site before you decide.
FAQs on RVCE M.Tech Machine Design
Straight answers to what students ask before they decide.
Is M.Tech Machine Design at RVCE worth the fee?▾
Yes, for most students who get a KEA seat. The full fee without the bus is INR 2.26 Lakhs and the Class of 2023 averaged INR 6.2 LPA, so one year of pay covers the fee more than twice. If a loan will pay the fee, read the EMI tile in the fee block above first.
What job will I get after this course?▾
Most students get design and analysis jobs in core companies. Bosch, Boeing, Kennametal, Textron and Quest Global are on the department's list of PG recruiters. 15 of 18 students in the Class of 2023 were placed, so check the placement table above for the pay range before you join.
Should I take this seat if my rank is just inside the round 1 close?▾
Yes, take it with Choice 1. The General seat closed at 6,321 in round 1, and in 2025 round 2 moved the close only from 2,313 to 2,743. Waiting rarely brings a better seat here, so join if RVCE is your first pick.
Who should not take this course here?▾
Skip it if you want a software job or a big first package. The Class of 2023 averaged INR 6.2 LPA, down from INR 8.13 LPA the year before. If a high starting salary matters most to you, compare the pay in the compare block above before you lock your options.
Is this course good for a Ph.D or research later?▾
Yes, if you use the second year well. Semester 3 has a minor project and an 8-week internship, and semester 4 is mostly the major project. Ask a faculty member for a research topic early, because a good project helps a Ph.D application.
Is M.Tech Machine Design better than Product Design and Manufacturing at RVCE?▾
Pick Machine Design if you want design, vibration and stress analysis work. Pick the other course if you prefer manufacturing and product development. The Mechanical department teaches both. Read the semester table in the About block above before you fill your options.
Should I wait a year to write PGCET again for a better rank?▾
Usually no. KEA printed 2026 ranks on a bigger scale than 2025, so last year's close is no guide to next year. If your rank clears 6,321 now, take the seat. If it does not, a GATE score is a better route, because GATE students get seats first.
Will a small batch of 18 help my placement?▾
Yes, a small batch helps. With 18 students, the placement cell has few students to place, and 15 were placed in the Class of 2023. Still, keep your marks up and do the internship well, because the internship company often hires you.
How do I get admission to this course?▾
Write Karnataka PGCET or use a valid GATE score, then fill options on the KEA website. KEA allots the seat on your rank. You pay the fee at the bank, download the confirmation slip and report at RVCE with your original documents by the last date.
What is the full fee for the course?▾
The full 2-year fee for a KEA seat is INR 2.26 Lakhs without the college bus. With the bus it comes to INR 2.96 Lakhs. You pay the year 1 fee to KEA and RVCE, and the year 2 fee at RVCE. The fee block above shows every part.
Can I get a scholarship for this course?▾
Yes, if you are a Karnataka student in a reserved category with a low family income. SC, ST and Category 1 students with income up to INR 2.5 Lakhs can get the tuition fee of INR 1.49 Lakhs back. Use the scholarship calculator above to check your own case.
Is there a hostel for M.Tech students?▾
Yes, but RVCE does not publish the PG hostel fee. PG girls stay at the Krishna Garden hostel in Pattanagere, and the bus from there costs INR 6,000. Call the hostel office before you pay, so you know the full cost.
The faculty at the institution vary in effectiveness, with some excelling in teaching while others are chosen more for their industry experience. In the machine design branch, only two students secured internships through the college placement department. Across all M.Tech mechanical departments, including MMD, PDM, CIM, and Tool, only about 9 or 10 out of 90 students obtained internships via the college.
GATE students at RVCE benefit from a GATE scholarship, but non-GATE students do not receive the TEQIP scholarship, which is typically available at other colleges. Although initially promised, students are informed in their fourth semester that the TEQIP scholarship will not be provided.
