R V College of Engineering in Bengaluru offers a two-year, full-time M.Tech in Highway Technology through its Civil Engineering department. The course started in 2009 and takes 18 students a year. KEA fills 10 of these seats through counselling. NBA has accredited the course till 2027, and the college holds a NAAC A+ grade. The full fee for a PGCET seat is INR 2.26 Lakhs without the college bus. You get the seat with a PGCET rank or a GATE score. In round 1 of 2026 the General seat closed at rank 4,733. RVCE M.Tech students of the Class of 2024 had a median pay of INR 7 LPA, and 75% of them were placed.

The General seat closed at rank 4,733 in round 1 of 2026, and the 3A seat at 5,750. Reserved seats went to later ranks, up to 11,508 for one SC group. In 2025 the General closing rank moved from 2,933 in round 1 to 6,164 in round 2. So a rank a little past the round 1 close can still get a seat later.

Should you pick M.Tech Highway Technology at RVCE?
This course suits Civil Engineering graduates who want to design and build roads with a design firm or a government body.
Pick it if:
You want a job with a road design firm: WS Atkins hired four students from one recent batch, and WSP and Mott MacDonald also hired.
You want to work on real road projects: semester 3 has an internship and a minor project, and semester 4 is one major project.
You are from a reserved category in Karnataka: in round 1 of 2026, 2A, 2B and ST seats went to much later ranks.
You want the fee back fast: the median pay of RVCE M.Tech students is about three times the full fee, as the ROI tile shows.
Skip it if:
You want many companies to visit for your course: the batch is only 18, and some recent students joined BBMP or a state transport body.
You want the exact pay for this course: RVCE does not publish it, and INR 7 LPA is the median for all its M.Tech courses.
You want city transport planning more than road building: most subjects are on pavements and road construction, and transport planning is one subject in semester 2.
You plan to wait for the last round: round 1 fee and reporting closed on 12 Oct 2026, and an unpaid seat goes back to KEA.
Counsellor's advice
If you hold this seat from round 1, keep it unless round 2 offers a course you want more. If your General rank is past 4,733, list it in round 2 but keep a safer college above it.

In short
BMSCE teaches transport planning and management, not road design, and its seat was easier to get in round 1. If you want transport planning, list BMSCE; if you want to design roads, keep RVCE above it.
In short
UVCE closed at a later rank than RVCE in round 1 and has fewer KEA seats. If your rank is past 4,733, list UVCE below RVCE so you still get a highway course.
In short
DSCE has the same number of KEA seats and a much easier close, and its M.Tech median pay matched RVCE's. If RVCE does not come in round 2, DSCE is a fair backup for the same course.
In short
RASTA has more KEA seats and an easier close, but it does not publish its fee or placements. If you take RASTA over RVCE, ask for its fee and job list before you pay.
Fees and pay can change. Check each college site before you decide.
FAQs on RVCE M.Tech Highway Technology
Straight answers to what students ask before they decide.
Is M.Tech Highway Technology at RVCE worth the fee?▾
Yes, for most students who take a PGCET seat. The full fee is INR 2.26 Lakhs without the bus, and RVCE M.Tech students had a median pay of INR 7 LPA in the Class of 2024. So one year of pay covers the fee about three times. If a loan pays your fee, check the EMI tile in the fee block above first.
What job will I get after this course?▾
Most students join firms that design roads and transport projects. In the 2020 to 2022 batch, WS Atkins hired four students, and WSP, Mott MacDonald, Arcadis and SECON also hired. A few joined BBMP or a state transport body. If you want a site or design job on roads, this course fits it.
Should I take this seat if my rank is just past the round 1 close?▾
Keep it in your options, but do not count on it. The General seat closed at rank 4,733 in round 1 of 2026. In 2025 the close moved from 2,933 to 6,164 by round 2, so a later round can reach your rank. Keep a safer college above it in your list.
Who should not take this course here?▾
Skip it if you want many companies to visit for your course alone, or if you want city transport planning more than road building. The batch is only 18 students, and most subjects are on pavements and road construction. If either matters more to you, look at a transport planning course instead.
Is this course better than M.Tech Structural Engineering at RVCE for me?▾
Pick Highway Technology if you want to work on roads, pavements and traffic. Pick Structural Engineering if you want to design buildings and bridges. Structural Engineering closed at a much earlier rank in round 1 of 2026, so it is harder to get. Choose by the work you want to do, not by the rank alone.
Is this course good for a government job?▾
Yes, it helps. Some recent students joined BBMP and the state urban transport body, and the course teaches the road design and maintenance work these bodies do. You still need to clear the government recruitment exam for the post. Watch the state public works and city body job notices from your second year.
Is this course good for research or a Ph.D. later?▾
Yes, if you plan for it early. The Civil Engineering department is a VTU research centre, so you can do a Ph.D. here after the M.Tech. Semester 4 is one major project, which is your best chance to write a research paper. Talk to a faculty guide in semester 2 about the topic.
Will I get placed if few companies come for this course?▾
Most students do get jobs, but some find them on their own. In the 2020 to 2022 batch, 14 students got job letters. Across all RVCE M.Tech courses, 75% of the Class of 2024 was placed. Use your semester 3 internship to get a job offer from the same firm.
How do I get admission to this course?▾
Register for PGCET with KEA, write the Civil Engineering paper and enter RVCE Highway Technology in your options. A valid GATE score also works and gets seats first. After allotment, pay the fee to KEA and report at RVCE with your originals by the last date, or you lose the seat.
What is the full fee for the course?▾
The full 2-year fee for a PGCET seat is INR 2.26 Lakhs without the college bus. With the bus it comes to INR 2.96 Lakhs. You pay INR 80,110 to KEA and INR 32,540 at RVCE in year 1, and the rest in year 2. The fee block above shows each part.
Can I get a scholarship or a stipend?▾
Yes, if you qualify. SC, ST and Category-1 students from Karnataka get a fee waiver of INR 40,000 to INR 69,300 over the course, based on family income. GATE students can get the AICTE scholarship of INR 12,400 a month, but not together with another government scholarship. Use the calculator above for your case.
Is there a management seat, and what does it cost?▾
Yes. The RSST trust gives management seats when you email your mark cards, and you still need a PGCET rank or a GATE score. Management tuition is INR 3 Lakhs a year, plus about INR 65,000 a year in other fees. That is much more than a PGCET seat, so try the KEA route first.
Admission to the college through the PGCET 2018 exam was based on a 100-mark test, held offline. The exam had two parts: Part 1 with 50 questions worth 1 mark each, and Part 2 with 25 questions worth 2 marks each. Rankings were based on scores, with GATE-qualified students receiving ranks up to 2000, and PGCET students starting from rank 2001. Document verification and seat allocation followed, allowing students to choose colleges based on their ranks.
Admission to RVCE required payment of fees prescribed by KEA plus an additional 20,000 INR. The college's fee structure is considered expensive, with an annual fee of around 120,000 INR, plus extra costs like parking and exam hall ticket fees. The PG section in highway technology has three experienced faculty members known for their effective teaching and support. Engineering and computer science students generally have excellent placement opportunities, whereas highway technology students face limited placements but can pursue government jobs.
Internships are mandatory in the third semester, lasting about six months, with stipends varying by project. GATE-qualified students receive a monthly stipend of Rs 12,500 from AICTE, and there is a fee concession scholarship for PG CET students from the Karnataka government.
