Should you pick MCA at RVCE?

This course suits students who want a software or bank tech job in Bengaluru and have a top PGCET rank.

Pick it if:
You want a tech job in a bank or an IT firm: JP Morgan, HSBC, Accenture and Infosys have hired MCA students from this course.
You have a General rank of 40 or better: round 1 of 2026 closed at 40, so freeze the seat if KEA offers it.
You want a course with a long record: the MCA department started in 1997 and was the first PG course at RVCE.
You want the fee back fast: the average pay of INR 8.29 LPA is much more than the full fee of INR 2.17 Lakhs.
Skip it if:
You expect the pay to rise every year: the average fell from INR 10 LPA to INR 8.29 LPA between the last two full batches.
You expect every student to get an offer: 132 offers went to 92 students, so a few strong students take more than one offer.
You need a girls' hostel on the main campus: PG girls stay at the Krishna Garden hostel in Pattanagere and take a bus to college.
Your family cannot pay a management fee: a management seat costs INR 4.50 Lakhs a year in tuition, so aim for a KEA seat through PGCET.
Counsellor's advice
If KEA gives you this seat in any round, freeze it and pay the fee on time. If your General rank is above 51, keep a safer college above this one in your options.

In short
BMSCE costs a little less and its closing rank is easier, but it publishes no MCA average pay. If your General rank is inside 40, take RVCE; if it is between 41 and 128, BMSCE is the seat to aim for.
In short
MSRIT has the same number of KEA seats and a lower fee, and it closed near rank 238. If you miss RVCE in round 1, list MSRIT right below it and take whichever comes first.
In short
PES University has almost three times the KEA seats, so its close is much easier. If your rank is above 51, list PES University high, but ask for its MCA fee first because it is not published.
In short
DSCE has the same KEA seats and a much easier close, near rank 499. If RVCE allots you a seat in any round, take it; keep DSCE only as a backup lower in your options.

Fees and pay can change. Check each college site before you decide.

FAQs on RVCE MCA

Straight answers to what students ask before they decide.

Is the MCA at RVCE worth the fee?▾
Yes, for most students who get a KEA seat. The full fee without the bus is INR 2.17 Lakhs and the batch of 2022 to 2024 averaged INR 8.29 LPA, so the fee comes back within the first working year. If a loan will pay the fee, check the EMI tile in the fee block above before you decide.
Should I take this seat if my rank is just above the closing rank?▾
Not on last year's number alone. The General seat closed at rank 40 in round 1 of 2026 and at 51 after round 2 in 2025, so the room is small. Keep RVCE first in your options with a safer college below it, and use the rank checker above for your own category.
What job will I get after the MCA here?▾
Most students get software jobs with IT companies and the tech teams of banks. JP Morgan, HSBC, Texas Instruments, Accenture and Infosys have hired from this course. The batch of 2022 to 2024 averaged INR 8.29 LPA and the highest offer was INR 25 LPA. If you want research instead, the department also offers M.Sc by Research and Ph.D.
Who should not take the MCA at RVCE?▾
Skip it if your family cannot pay a management fee and your rank is well above the closing rank. A management seat costs INR 4.50 Lakhs a year in tuition alone. Also think again if you need a girls' hostel on the main campus, because PG girls stay at Krishna Garden in Pattanagere.
Will I get placed if I am in the bottom half of the batch?▾
Most students do, but not all. In the batch of 2022 to 2024, 92 students shared 132 offers, so some strong students took two offers. Start preparing for company tests from the first semester. Use the placement figures above to judge your own chances before you join.
Is the MCA better than an M.Tech at RVCE for me?▾
Pick the MCA if you have a BCA or a B.Sc and want a software job in two years. The M.Tech needs a B.E. or B.Tech, so most BCA and B.Sc students cannot choose it. If you already hold a B.E. in Computer Science, compare both courses on the RVCE site before you enter options.
Should I wait a year and write PGCET again?▾
Only if your rank is far from the cutoff range and you can study for a full year. The General close was 40 in 2026 and 41 in 2025, so the cutoff has stayed near the same number. If you clear it now, take the seat now instead of waiting.
Is the fee worth it if I take a management seat?▾
It depends on your plan to pay. A management seat costs INR 4.50 Lakhs a year in tuition, plus about INR 65,000 a year in college fees, which is far more than a KEA seat. The average pay of INR 8.29 LPA is the same for both seats, so try hard for a KEA seat first.
How do I get admission to the MCA at RVCE?▾
Write PGCET and enter RVCE in your option list on the KEA site. KEA allots the seat on your rank, and you then pay the fee and download the confirmation slip. Report at RVCE with the slip and your original marks cards by the last date, or you lose the seat.
What is the full fee for the MCA course?▾
The full 2-year fee for a PGCET seat is INR 2.17 Lakhs without the college bus. With the bus it comes to INR 2.87 Lakhs. These are the 2025-26 figures, so check the new fee notice before you pay.
Can SC, ST or Category-1 students pay less?▾
Yes, if you are from Karnataka and enter your income certificate number in the PGCET form. SC and ST students with a family income of INR 2.50 Lakhs to INR 10 Lakhs save INR 68,560 over the course. Use the scholarship calculator above to see your amount.
Does RVCE have a hostel for MCA students?▾
Yes. PG boys stay in the Sir M. Visvesvaraya block on the campus, and PG girls stay at the Krishna Garden hostel in Pattanagere. RVCE does not publish a PG hostel fee, so call the hostel office before you join.
