RNSIT BE Lateral ECE FAQs
Ques. I have completed a Diploma in Electronics and Communication Engineering. Can I directly apply for lateral entry into RNSIT's BE ECE program through DCET 2026?
Ans. Yes, diploma holders in Electronics and Communication Engineering (or relevant branches as per KEA norms) are eligible to appear for DCET 2026 and seek lateral entry into the BE ECE program at RNSIT. However, the DCET 2026 application window has already closed (last date was April 3, 2026). If you have already registered, you can download your admit card from May 7, 2026 and appear for the exam on May 23, 2026. If you missed the registration, you may explore management quota seats directly through RNSIT's admissions office for 2026-27, or plan for DCET 2027 for the next cycle.
Ques. What is the actual fee I will pay per year as a DCET (government quota) student for BE Lateral ECE at RNSIT?
Ans. As a DCET/government quota student, you will pay approximately Rs. 1,07,441 per year, which includes tuition fees (around Rs. 75,000), college and other fees (around Rs. 25,000), and VTU fees (around Rs. 7,441). Over 3 years, the total comes to approximately Rs. 3.22 lakh. Additionally, you will need to pay separately for books, uniform, and examination fees each semester. SC/ST students are eligible for tuition fee waivers under Karnataka government norms, which can significantly reduce the out-of-pocket expense.
Ques. Is the ECE department at RNSIT NBA accredited, and does it matter for placements and higher studies?
Ans. Yes, the ECE department at RNSIT is NBA (National Board of Accreditation) accredited. NBA accreditation is a quality certification that signifies the program meets national standards for technical education. For placements, many top companies prefer or require graduates from NBA/NAAC accredited institutions. For higher studies, NBA accreditation is recognized by universities in India and abroad. It also makes students eligible for certain government scholarships and fellowships that require graduation from accredited programs. So yes, it does add value to your degree.
Ques. What kind of companies recruit ECE lateral entry students from RNSIT, and what is the average package?
Ans. ECE students at RNSIT (including lateral entry graduates) are recruited by companies across the electronics, semiconductor, IT, and telecom sectors. Top recruiters include Amazon, Microsoft, Bosch, Infosys, Wipro, and several mid-size electronics and embedded systems companies. Internship stipends range from Rs. 15,000 to Rs. 30,000 per month, with the highest internship stipend in 2025 being Rs. 1.1 lakh per month. The average package for ECE freshers typically ranges from Rs. 4.5 to Rs. 6 LPA, while the highest package reported for the overall college in 2025 was Rs. 50 LPA. Lateral entry students complete the same curriculum as regular students from the 3rd semester onwards and are equally eligible for campus placements.
Ques. Can I get a management quota seat in BE Lateral ECE at RNSIT without a DCET score?
Ans. Yes, management quota seats at RNSIT can be filled without a DCET score. For management quota, RNSIT accepts students based on diploma merit or any valid entrance exam score. If you have not appeared for DCET 2026, you can still apply for a management quota seat by contacting RNSIT's admissions office directly. The management quota fee for ECE is Rs. 5,00,000 per year (2026-27), payable in two equal instalments of Rs. 2,50,000 each. EMI options are also available through RNSIT's financial partner GrayQuest. Management quota seats are limited and filled on a first-come, first-served basis, so early application is advisable.
Ques. What is the difference between BE ECE and BE Electronics Engineering (VLSI Design and Technology) at RNSIT? Which is better for lateral entry students?
Ans. RNSIT offers two ECE-related programs: BE ECE (180 seats) and BE Electronics Engineering with VLSI Design and Technology specialization (60 seats). BE ECE is a broader program covering all aspects of electronics and communication, while the VLSI specialization is more focused on chip design, semiconductor technology, and VLSI tools like Cadence and Synopsys. For lateral entry students with a diploma in ECE, both programs are accessible through DCET. If you are interested in the semiconductor and chip design industry (which is booming in Bangalore with companies like Intel, Texas Instruments, and Qualcomm), the VLSI specialization may offer more targeted career opportunities. However, BE ECE offers a wider range of career options across IT, telecom, embedded systems, and core electronics. The management quota fee for VLSI is Rs. 4,00,000/year versus Rs. 5,00,000/year for ECE, making VLSI a more affordable option as well.
