Ques. How is computer science engineering at IIT Dhanbad and Bhubaneswar?

● Top Answer By Ishita Mitra on 14 Aug 20

Ans. The answer to this question depends on various factors but to keep it short let’s talk about the NIRF-2019 ranking (engineering category) and placement statistics (CSE Branch) of the institutes. IIT Dhanbad has been ranked at 15th among NIRF Ranking 2019. According to the placement statistics of 2019-20, the percentage of b-tech computer science students placed during campus placements was 90.23%. The percentage of B. Tech & M. Tech in Computer Science & Engineering (dual degree) placed during campus placements was 66.67% with the highest CTC of INR 23.80 LPA. The highest salary package offered in the computer science branch (B. Tech) was 39.50 LPA. The overall average package offered in all the b-tech branches was 15.50 LPA. Major recruiters include Accenture, Goldman Sach, Synopsys, Microsoft, Flipkart, Siemens, Amazon, Adobe, etc. Indian Institute Of Technology, Bhubaneswar has a NIRF Ranking-17. The placement statistics 2019-20 reveal the overall percentage of b-tech students placed during campus placement drives was around 89.55%. The percentage of computer science students placed was 100% this year but the average CTC offered to the students was less than that of IIT Dhanbad. The highest package offered to the computer science branch was INR 39 LPA. The major recruiters included Amazon, Adobe, Accenture, Akash Institute, BYJU, Atkins, Angel Broking, DELL, Honeywell, INTEL technology, etc. The average package offered was 11.90 LPA. Finally, other facilities such as labs, faculty, and other infrastructure at ISM Dhanbad is better than that of IIT Bhubaneswar as the former is one of the oldest elite institutes of the country. However, the final decision is yours to make considering both pros and cons for different aspects.Read more

Ques. How is the Mathematics and Computing in IIT Guwahati?

● Top Answer By Rithi Dasgupta on 03 May 23

Ans. For a genuine math lover, Mathematics and Computing program at IIT Guwahati is a literal treat. You need to be proficient in Math to take up this course. The syllabus includes core math concepts combined with knowledge of CS as well. Towards the end, the math is confined to statistics and finance. The syllabus is not very flexible initially but becomes so in the last two semesters. Here are a few pros and cons pertaining to the course Pros : The MnC branch boasts excellent placements second only to the CS department. The placement percentage stood at 91.94%. Out of the total 62 students that opted for placements, 57 were able to secure decent jobs. However, finance firms and banks are yet to realize the true potential of this department. One can get an INR 20 LPA by doing a decent internship and maintaining a good CGPA. Excellent Master's opportunities are even better than CS students. This is the best option for those planning to get a master's abroad. To upgrade your CV, you can do internships and choose electives accordingly. All this will increase your chances of admission to CSE, data science, finance, and mathematics. Job opportunities: This program has excellent opportunities in terms of jobs as well as research and many fields are open to hire students of this course.  Cons The rigidity of the syllabus makes it the jack of all trades master of none. You cannot choose the elective according to your interest during the initial years. Many useless courses add to the overall workload with no increase in knowledge. Those who aren’t into finance may find it difficult to cope with it as it’s impossible to drop finance courses during the initial years. In the near future when the IT industry will be at its peak, MnC might be better than CSE in terms of monetary benefits. If you aren’t certain about your area of interest, then Maths and Computing are definitely better than all core branches except CS. Read more
