Ques. How is Hindustan University for aerospace engineering?

Ans. One of my friends studies at Hindustan University. So, I know a little bit about the institute.  Hindustan University is recognized as a great platform for Aerospace Engineering. But the institute owes its reputation to the students who go out of their way to excel in academics without much help from the institute. According to my friend’s experience, the institute does not offer support of any kind, be it lab equipment, leniency in attendance, or time. The institute charges high fines for low attendance. It also has a dress code for the laboratory which is quite uncomfortable. According to authority, it is for the protection of the students. However, there are either computer-related laboratory works or lectures, so there is actually no need for uncomfortable uniforms.  Also, students are not allowed to use most of the equipment in the laboratory. According to authorities, it could be potentially dangerous.  Overall, at Hindustan University you won’t have many facilities, placement offers, or any kind of support. So, it would be better to opt for other options.Read more

Ques. What is the placement record like at Hindustan University for aerospace engineering?

Ans. One of my cousins is an alumnus at Hindustan University. Not many of his batchmates are working as Aerospace Engineers. Most of them were placed in IT companies through campus placements. The very few who are actually working in a field related to Aerospace Engineering made it there through their own efforts.  The placement report published by the university is as follows: Academic Year Total Number of Offers Percentage of Placement Number of Companies 2018-19 456 78.75% 77 2017-18 514 78.59% 50 2016-17 485 77.84% 75 In the academic year of 2018-19, for the department of aerospace engineering, 22 students registered for placement out of which 15 got placed.  A large number of software companies hire from this university. If your only concern is placement, then this might not be the best college for you because the university does not ensure 100% placement.Read more

Ans. Here is all I know about the placement scenario of these branches at my university. These are some top companies that visit the campus-  PwC , EY, Sap labs, Musigma, Amazon,ThoughtWorks, Hitachi Consulting, IBM India, HSBC, Huawei Technology, Zoho Corporation, Capgemini, CSC, ITC infotech, L&T Infotech, Gofrugal, Virtusa, Payoda, Code Brahma, Standard Chartered Scope Int, Ericsson, MAQ for internship, Unisys, Volante technologies, Verizon, TEK systems, HUL, Amadeus Software Labs, HP india, Alcatel, NTT Data, etc. Companies like Amazon and MAQ software provide PPOs as well. Other than these, mass recruiters- TCS, Infosys, Cognizant, Wipro, Accenture and Capgemini visit the campus with IT job profiles. HUL, Exxotel, Scope int, Tata communications, etc. are open to all branches.  The companies offer around 3-6 LPA on an average. The salary can also exceed 10 LPA in case of companies like DE Shaw and HSBC. Mass recruiters pay around 3.2-3.5 LPA.  Thus, the placements at Hindustan University are quite decent for CSE, ECE and IT.Read more

Ans. I am an Aeronautical Engineer myself. I even searched for various institutes to pursue my degree from. Unfortunately, I did not have much guidance at the time.  So I’ll be mentioning some colleges that offer a B.Tech in Aeronautical Engineering- Top IITs like IIT Kanpur, IIT Bombay, IIT Madras, and IIT Kharagpur (I have mentioned them randomly, with no hierarchical sequence). The Aeronautical Society of India Punjab Engineering College(PEC) Hindustan University Madras Institute of Technology IGNOU  These are some universities/colleges that offer Aeronautical engineering studies. Ques. What is better: EEE at BITS Hyderabad or CS at VIT Vellore?

Ans. As a former EEE student at BITS Goa, I would not recommend taking up EEE at BITS Hyderabad if you want a career in the field of software engineering.  Here are the reasons why- The coding involved in EEE is not enough. You’ll code in MATLAB, which is rarely used in the IT sector. You’ll have to devote extra time to learning Python, Java, and other languages.  CS involves much more than coding, all of which you’ll miss out on. Elective courses like OS, DSA, Comp Arch have very limited seats, and not everyone gets to pick them. Also, you’ll get these courses by your third or fourth year. By then you’ll either be under too much pressure to complete your main syllabus or it’ll be too late because the placement season will have begun. Top IT companies don’t open for non CS candidates, and even for the companies that do, you’ll have to compete with CS students. BITS will give you all the necessary exposure, quality education and opportunities. However, as a non IT student you’ll still find difficulty in getting an IT job via campus placements. Based on all these points, I would recommend choosing CSE at VIT for better job prospects in the IT sector.Read more

Ques. Between an M.Sc chemistry in BITS Hyderabad and CSE in VIT, which is better?

Ans. Based on mine and my friends’ experiences, here are some points I would like for you to consider in this regard- The branch should always be your top priority. For a dual degree in CSE at BITS Hyderabad, you’ll need to score more than 7.6 CG. That would mean an average +30 in most subjects (relative grading). Phoenix Dual is a better option than VIT CSE. Dual degree will take away a lot from your campus life. You won’t be able to enjoy clubs and events to the fullest. BITS Hyderabad undoubtedly has a better crowd quality. Moreover, it carries the prestigious ‘BITS’ tag. BITS will give you a more quality campus experience with better academics. The decision has to be made by you, but I hope that these points will guide you. Whatever you choose, make sure to maintain a good academic performance in college, so that you end up getting decent job offers.Read more

Ques. Which is better VIT or NIT Raipur for CSE?

Ans. According to a senior of mine who has graduated from NIT Raipur, the institute is better than most top colleges in Bangalore including VIT institutes. Despite having a soft spot for NIT Raipur, she does not discourage candidates from trying their luck at any other university, including VITs. She, however, suggests that they should get acquainted for measuring progress after completion of the undergraduate degree. Campus: VIT campus is definitely better than the NIT Raipur campus. Although the NIT Raipur has been considerably renovated.  The VIT campus will cost around 2 lakhs per year which includes hostel fees as well. Education at NIT Raipur will cost around 0.5 lakhs. Course: The course of VIT will not have any effect on your CSE placement.  On the other hand, your coding skills and DS+Algo will have a part to play in your placement. Either way, the effort is required regardless of how much you pay. Placements: By the time you graduate, if you choose NIT Raipur, that is, the institute will pretty much be holding its own among other giants. My senior said two of her batchmates landed a 75 LPA package without paying hefty college fees. VIT, being a private college, is known to boost their placement records. In addition to that, they have a management quota as well which goes on to say that not all the best minds will be found there. A friend of my seniors had a good rank and went to VIT. He got chosen in three companies. VIT attracts employers in large numbers but they offer packages of only around 3-3.5 LPA. In the case of NIT Raipur, almost every candidate will get at least one job, in recent years many also bagged two jobs. The ones who have, get a package of 4-8 LPA for the first job, and a package of as much as 16-17 LPA for the second job. Candidates who do not get a second job also land a job with a package of 4-8 LPA.  Overall, it is safe to say that CSE from NIT Raipur will be a good option.Read more

Ans. Personally, I feel VIT Vellore is a much better option than DSCE. Except for its location, VIT Vellore has an upper hand in almost all aspects be it infrastructure or placements. However, if you are not getting a branch of your choice at VIT Vellore or you are getting a less preferred branch, then DSCE can be considered. But if you are getting CS, ISE, ECE, and EEE at VIT Vellore then it should be given a preference to DSCE. Considering specific parameters Quality of education: Both institutes have equally good academic environments and highly qualified teachers. Infrastructure: VIT Vellore definitely scores better here because of its huge campus and facilities that are way ahead that DSCE. Don’t get me wrong, DSCE is one of the best in Bangalore but its size is nowhere near VIT Vellore. Placements: DSCE has 100% placements for CSE but average placements for core branches. VIT Vellore again scores better here. Overall, VIT Vellore seems a more promising choice than DSCE although the difference seems to be very slight. Read more

Ques. Which would be better, VIT CSE or NIT Puducherry electrical engineering?

Ans. VIT CSE is better in terms of placements, industry exposure, opportunities, and many other things as compared to NIT Puducherry Electrical. According to the recent placement highlights of VIT, the average CTC offered was 6 LPA and the highest CTC offered was 75 LPA.  On the other hand, NIT Puducherry is a Govt. college. It changes less course fee. For a B.E degree, NIT Puducherry charges around 2.17 lakhs, while a B.Tech from VIT will cost around 8 lakhs. The peer group at the institute is great. You will also have the NIT tag with your degree. That is certainly a perk of pursuing a degree at NIT Puducherry.  However, you should choose the institute based on your interest. If you like coding go for VIT CSE, or if you like basic sciences more than NIT Puducherry Electrical Engineering will be a better option for you.Read more
