IPU CET 2026 Phase 3 seat allotment result is out on July 9, 2026. You have until July 11, 2026 to report, pay the Rs 40,000 fee and submit your Freeze or Float choice at ipu.admissions.nic.in.

Phase 3 of GGSIPU counselling 2026 is the sliding round. It lets you move to a higher-preference branch within your currently allotted college if a seat is available. The decision is binary: Freeze your current seat permanently or Float to stay in the upgrade pool for a possible same-college branch upgrade. Getting this right before July 11 matters.

  • Phase 3 seat allotment result: July 9, 2026.
  • Reporting and fee payment deadline: July 11, 2026.
  • Freeze = current allotment is final; you exit all counselling rounds permanently.
  • Float = current seat is protected; you remain eligible for a same-college branch upgrade.
  • A fee of Rs 40,000 must be paid online by July 11 to hold your allotment, whether you Freeze or Float.
  • Phase 3 is a sliding round — cross-college upgrades are not offered in this phase.

Freeze, Float and Upgrade: What Each Option Means

GGSIPU gives you three responses to your Phase 3 seat allotment. Here is what each one does to your current seat.

Option What Happens Is Your Current Seat Safe?
Freeze You accept the allotted seat as final and exit all future counselling rounds immediately. Yes — seat is locked permanently.
Float You provisionally accept the current seat and remain in the pool for a higher-preference branch upgrade at the same college. Yes — current seat is retained if no upgrade is found.
Upgrade / Slide In Phase 3 (Sliding Round), the system checks if a seat in any of your higher-preference branches at the same college is available. Yes — if no upgrade seat is available, your current allotment stands.

The most important rule: floating does not put your current seat at risk. If Phase 3 does not produce a better option, your existing allotment is retained automatically by GGSIPU.

When to Choose Float (Stay in the Upgrade Pool)

Float is the right call when your current allotment is not your first preference and a better seat at the same college is realistically within reach.

  • You were not allotted your first-preference branch at your college. Phase 3’s sliding mechanism exists precisely to move you to a higher-ranked branch within the same institute.
  • You listed multiple branch preferences for your allotted college. The more same-college preferences you originally entered, the higher your upgrade chances in Phase 3.
  • Closing ranks in your preferred branch have been loosening across rounds. When ranks loosen between Phase 1 and Phase 2, the trend often continues into Phase 3 — a signal worth acting on.
  • You are comfortable with your current seat as a fallback. Since floating carries zero risk of losing your existing allotment, there is no cost to trying for an upgrade.

Float is the default rational choice for any student who did not receive their first-preference branch-college combination in Phases 1 or 2.

When to Choose Freeze (Lock Your Seat)

Freezing means you exit GGSIPU counselling 2026 permanently. Choose Freeze when there is genuinely nothing better to wait for in Phase 3.

  • You were allotted your first or second preference. If the system already gave you what you wanted, there is no upside to floating.
  • Your preferred upgrade is at a different college entirely. Phase 3 is a same-college sliding round. Cross-college upgrades are not available here. If your target is a different institution, Freeze and consider the Spot Round instead.
  • Your allotted college requires immediate in-person reporting. Some colleges enforce strict physical reporting deadlines within the Phase 3 window. If yours does, Freeze early and complete formalities without delay.
  • The difference between your current and preferred branch is marginal. If placement records and curriculum are similar across both branches, the extra wait is rarely worth the stress.

Freeze only when you are genuinely satisfied with your current allotment or when the specific upgrade you want cannot happen in a sliding round.

How to Submit Your Choice Online

  2. Navigate to Phase 3 Seat Allotment and review your allotted seat details carefully.
  3. Select Freeze or Float in response to your current allotment.
  4. Pay the Rs 40,000 academic/counselling fee online via net banking, UPI or debit/credit card. This payment is mandatory for both options.

IPU CET 2026 Phase 3 Upgrade and Freeze FAQs

Ques. If I Float and do not get an upgrade in Phase 3, will I lose my current seat?

Ans. No. Floating does not cancel your existing allotment. If Phase 3 produces no better seat for you, GGSIPU retains your current seat and you report to that college as per the schedule.

Ques. Can I upgrade to a seat in a different college through Phase 3?

Ans. No. Phase 3 is a sliding round limited to branch upgrades within your currently allotted college only. Cross-college upgrades are not available in Phase 3.

Ques. Is the Rs 40,000 fee refundable if I get an upgrade in Phase 3?

Ans. The fee is adjusted against your upgraded allotment and you will not need to pay it again. For withdrawal refund rules, check the official refund policy at ipu.admissions.nic.in/schedule-notices/.

Ques. What happens if I miss the July 11, 2026 fee payment deadline?

Ans. If you do not pay the Rs 40,000 fee and submit your Freeze or Float choice by July 11, 2026, your Phase 3 seat allotment is automatically cancelled and the seat is released to the next student on the merit list.

Ques. After freezing in Phase 3, can I still apply for the Spot Round?

Ans. No. Once you Freeze, you permanently exit the GGSIPU counselling pool. The Spot Round is available only to students who hold no current allotment or who formally withdrew before the Spot Round registration window.

Ques. Do the Freeze and Float options apply to BBA, MCA and MBA programs too?

Ans. Yes. Freeze and Float apply across GGSIPU-counselled programs including B.Tech, BBA, BCA, MBA, MCA and law programs. Fee amounts and deadlines may differ by program, so check your specific allotment letter on the official portal.
