Jadavpur University: Students' Opinion

AI-Generated Summary based on 8 Reviews

Jadavpur University is renowned for its career opportunities, distinguished faculty, and accessibility, thanks to its affordable fee structure. The university charges a nominal fee of Rs. 1235 per semester, payable in cash upon admission, making higher education accessible to students from various socio-economic backgrounds. Scholarships are available for those in need of financial assistance, with the option to apply for additional aid, although only one government scholarship can be utilized by a student.

The faculty is highly regarded, offering quality education and support, while multiple libraries and low Xerox fees enhance the learning experience. The engineering faculty boasts strong placement opportunities, with alumni securing positions in companies like L&T, although the arts faculty requires better placement distribution. Internships are available through organizations like Pradhan, Zee Networks, and Piramal Foundation, but with limited positions and a competitive selection process. Job prospects are more robust in fields such as journalism, Indian Civil Services, and academia, bolstered by a strong alumni network and placement department.

Humanities courses, however, face limited job prospects compared to engineering. Admission is competitive, especially via admission tests, and engineering students benefit from campus recruitment. The university's program in international relations and its overall emphasis on accessibility ensure a well-rounded educational experience.

Jadavpur University: 1 Answered Question

Which is better for competitive programming: Jadavpur University or IIEST, Shibpur?

Aditya BoseStudied at Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, Shibpur

Any college can be good for competitive programming. It all relies on you to educate yourself, to learn new strategies, and to spend hours coding.

  • Anudeep Nekkanti is one such example. He was recruited by Google and qualified for ACM ICPC world finals. If you look at the name of his college, it's not one of those elite ones.
  • There was no competitive programming pattern in BESU/IIEST until recently. But many students have taken competitive programming platforms such as Codechef and HackerRank over the last few years.
  • You can search the Codechef Rating System site to verify it for yourself. You get a college-wise database of the number of students actively engaged in competitive coding and their results using this platform.

Lastly, don't support the myth that the only way to prove yourself as a coder is competitive programming. There are other coding fields as well. In this sense, do not consider that there was no "real coder" in IIEST because there was no competitive coding pattern previously in IIEST (BESU back then).

Some of the alumni of the institute are working in top companies in India and overseas and have never been interested in competitive coding.
