ADBU MBA FAQs
Ques. Is the DBIM MBA the same as the ADBU MBA, or are they different programs?
Ans. The MBA program at ADBU is offered exclusively through the Don Bosco Institute of Management (DBIM), which is an AICTE-approved constituent unit of Assam Don Bosco University located at the Kharguli campus in Guwahati. So when you apply for the MBA at ADBU, you are essentially joining DBIM. The degree awarded is from Assam Don Bosco University, but the teaching, administration, and campus experience are managed by DBIM. The Kharguli campus is separate from ADBU's main Tapesia campus, so MBA students study and reside in a dedicated management school environment in the heart of Guwahati city.
Ques. Do I need to appear for CAT or any national entrance exam to get admission to the DBIM MBA?
Ans. No, it is not mandatory to have a CAT or other national exam score. ADBU conducts its own entrance test called DBU-PGET (Don Bosco University Post Graduate Entrance Test). However, if you have a valid score in CAT, XAT, GMAT, AICTE-CMAT, JMAT, or MAT, you are exempted from the DBU-PGET and can directly proceed to the Group Discussion and Personal Interview rounds. DBIM places significant emphasis on the Personal Interview, so even candidates with average entrance test scores can secure admission through a strong PI performance.
Ques. What specialisations are available in the DBIM MBA, and can I choose subjects from different specialisations?
Ans. The MBA program at DBIM offers elective courses under three Areas of Concentration (AoC): Marketing Management, Financial Management, and Human Resources Management. What makes this program flexible is that students are not locked into a single specialisation - they can choose electives from the same AoC for a focused specialisation, or mix electives from different AoCs based on their career interests. This flexibility is particularly useful for students who want a broader management education rather than a narrow specialisation.
Ques. Is work experience required for admission to the DBIM MBA? Will freshers be considered?
Ans. Work experience is not a mandatory requirement for the DBIM MBA. Fresh graduates are welcome to apply and are regularly admitted. However, candidates with relevant full-time work experience (preferably more than one year) may be given preference during the selection process, as professional exposure is seen as adding depth to classroom discussions. If you are a fresher, a strong academic record, clear career goals, and a compelling Personal Interview can significantly improve your chances of selection.
Ques. What is the hostel situation for MBA students at DBIM? Is it mandatory to stay in the hostel?
Ans. Hostel accommodation is available for MBA students, and DBIM strongly encourages a residential campus experience as it complements the structured academic schedule (9 AM to 5 PM daily). However, staying in the hostel is not mandatory. Preferential allotment is given to students coming from outside Guwahati. The hostel at the Azara campus charges Rs. 39,000 per semester (inclusive of food and accommodation), while the Tapesia campus hostel charges Rs. 20,000 per semester (accommodation only, with a food court available separately). Hostel registration is done each semester, though the admission fee is charged only once.
Ques. What is the fee payment structure for the MBA, and are there any discounts for upfront payment?
Ans. The total MBA fee at DBIM is Rs. 4,29,000, payable in 6 installments over the 2-year program. Installments 1 and 4 are due in September (1st week), Installments 2 and 5 in December (1st week), and Installments 3 and 6 in April (1st week). There is no specific lump-sum discount mentioned for the MBA program (unlike the B.Tech program which offers one-time payment discounts). The first installment of Rs. 1,00,500 includes the admission fee of Rs. 20,000. Students can also explore education loan facilities that the university helps facilitate through banks.
