IIIT Hyderabad: Students' Opinion

AI-Generated Summary based on 7 Reviews

IIIT Hyderabad offers a 2-year MTech program in Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), emphasizing research, practical implementation, and specialization. Admission involves a unique entrance exam and interviews, with a waiting list in place for seat allocation. The faculty, mostly PhD holders from prestigious institutions, focus on industry and research-oriented education and encourage extracurricular activities for well-rounded development. The total semester fee is around INR 1,60,000, covering tuition and hostel costs, with living expenses in Hyderabad being relatively low at INR 10,000 monthly.

Although fees are higher compared to IITs/NITs, the high-quality education and impressive 100% placement record justify the cost. Recent graduates secure average salaries between 12-15 LPA, with some earning up to 55 LPA. Over 50 top-tier companies, such as Google, Microsoft, and Infosys, recruit annually. Students independently prepare for placements, with numerous internship opportunities offering stipends averaging 56k for two months. Scholarships are available based on merit and financial need, including the AICTE scholarship for GATE-qualified students, and education loans can be accessed without security from SBI on campus.

The total course fee ranges from 6-10 lakh INR, but the high placement salary average of 20 LPA makes it a worthwhile investment.

IIIT Hyderabad: 2 Answered Questions

How is IIIT Hyderabad's MSIT course for a non it student ? What sort of companies recruit from the MSIT course??

Sabeer Chalana
Anupama Chauhanstudied at International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad

IIIT Hyderabad MSIT course is perfect for someone who has a flawed academic profile like a gap year or something. People like these have very limited opportunities so this course might uplift their chances of getting placed decently. However, since you specifically asked, this course is not a good option if you have an IT background. This is because the curriculum is repetitive and covered in a shorter duration. Also, if you are employed, it’s better to invest your efforts in improving your work experience than wasting time on this course.

The placements are decent and in fact, during the first phase, you might get into top IT giants like Amazon, Salesforce, American Express, etc. But if you fail to get placed in these then the only option left is to get into service sector-based companies.

So, this course is best suited for those who are looking for a means to upgrade their academic profile.

Which college should I choose between IIT, Hyderabad & IIIT, Hyderabad for a CSE course?

Divya SarafLives in Hyderabad

Had I been in your place, I would have chosen IIIT Hyderabad over IIT Hyderabad. While both colleges offer a good CS program, IIIT Hyderabad is the clear winner when it comes to CS. Consider the following points of comparison

  • IIT Hyderabad is a new IIt, so choosing it just because of the IIt tag would be a blunder.
  • IIT Hyderabad is still in its development phase and its campus still needs a few more facilities to become full-fledged operating.
  • IIIT Hyderabad has a better religion and brand name among the IT giants and therefore its placement scenario is way better than IIT Hyderabad.
  • IIIT Hyderabad is well-known for its achievements in competitions like ACM ICPC and GSOC.

I have my cousins in both the institutes and from their discussions I have concluded that IIIT Hyderabad leads in CS opportunities.
