Review of The University of Burdwan

Our university is one of the top six leading universities in West Bengal right now in 2019. It offers diverse couses and skill based trainings. There are a lot to explore and the over all experience is overwhelming. A peaceful campus atmosphere and a alot of greenery makes it a heaven to the students. The academic structure is also well designed to make us improve further. So it's a pleasure getting a chance to pursue my masters course in The University of Burdwan.

The course curriculum is very well developed. Our master's curriculum for English Literature is not merely centered around literary fields but it stretches out beyond and covers the culture studies too. It's also according to UGC and resembles almost all the leading universities in India. The classrooms are designed to offer much digitized experience and a lot of convenience. The library and the language learning laboratory helps us gather much more knowledge from the leading online libraries and journals. All the major books that are necessary are available here. Exam Structure : The entire 2 years' course is divided into 4 semesters. Each semester contains 5 papers and for each paper is alloted 50 marks. Each paper has a 10 marks internal exam and the rest 40 marks are judged upon final semester exam. Thus each semester carries 250 marks and the entire course is of 1000 marks. The marks are given in terms of SGPA.

Here in our university there are much scope for job opportunities. The departments like Tourism and Managaemnet, Journalism and Mass Communication, Computer Science, BBA, BCA, MBA, MCA, Civil and Electrical Engineering couses and much like other departments offer placements and campussing. Even the Government of West Bengal and the different authorities offer jobs in the tourism and other management fields. However our university has courses like B.Ed and some research degrees like M.Phil and Ph.D where internship is provided. As I'm presently in Masters couse, so I didn't work as an intern.

1. Annual Sports: All the departments in our university join and participate in the annual sports. There are many events like 100, 200, 400 metres races and long jumps, high jumps, javelin throw and many more. At last an inter-department football tournament happens. 2. Convocation: This is the annual programme where the previous year's students are awarded and are given the cirtificates according to their degrees. Our chancellor sir and vice chancellor sir join us and many dignitaries too. 3. Freshers' Welcome: The BVCS (Chatra samshad) welcomes the new commers each year. 4. Social Festival: Each year there are 3 days observed as social ceremony. On these days many cultural programmes happen among all the department students. And the evenings are flowered with the presence of many dignitaries, teachers and many quality artists from diverse fields. Studets securing places in the cultural competitions are awarded. Each department organize their theme tent and they are judged and ranked. The departments securing first three places are also awarded. Basanta Utsav: During the week of Holi, Basanta Jtsav is observed with jovial moods in each department. NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCES: Our university arrages many national and international conferences. In our department too national and international conferences are arranged. Dignified scholarly teachers from many leading universities come and join these conferences. Students are also welcome in these events.

Fees structure is not expensive at all. It's very much within our reach. For Masters in Arts the fees for 2 years is around 6000 rupees. For the first semester 2010 rupees is charged. And for the next three sem around 1200 rupees is charged.

Extracurricular activities like library work, gardening, campus cleaning, maintaining safety in roads campaign, soprts and games, gymnasiums, yoga, and many more are there. For science students there are laboratories for experiments and for Humanities students there are scopes for foreign language learning like French, Arabic etc. In extracurricular activities our university offers diverse scopes and they are maintained and instructed so well.

I opted for CHITTARANJAN CHATTRABAS. The hostel fecility is very much convenient. The room charge per month is near about nothing and the meal chage costs around 1000 rupees per month. The benefits of hostel is much higher than other modes of residences. There are scopes for cultural and extra curricular activities like gardening. The atmosphere is very much friendly.

Alumni network is very much swift at their jobs. They always keep us updated by posting notices on the website and on the notice board. We get much convenience from them all. Senior here are mind blowing. They don't act like they are seniors. They mingle with us very friendly and never show arrogance. We always get them beside us in any issue. They cooperate with us so well that we never get the impression that we are junuors and they are higher. They are very well knowledgable and help us providing with notes and study guides. If we feel any problem from outside, they listen to us and try to solve that. They communicate with each of us and we are very much open to each other; feel free to speak and act spontaneously.

Actually our university considers both the home students and the students from other universities for admission. In this case the home students are considered to get admission according to their graduation's marks percentage. And there's an entrance exam also for the admission of the students from other universities. However the home students can also sit for the entrance and can get admission by ranking. The seat distribution is that 60% is alloted in terms of marks of the home students and for the rest 40% both the home and the students from other universities may be considered.

There are many efficient faculties in each Department of our university. In our English department 7 faculties are there presently. They all are much scholarly and very very friendly to us. Not that they merely teach like autometons. Rather they involve us in each and every class. Show us many sources. They use projector to explain each thing better. They are always interactive and are very much accessible even off the class. We never feel burdened and always enjoy their company. Some of our faculties are specialised in diverse fields. They're no doubt very much enriched and always make us have the share of their knowledge; show us the way to advancement.
