What Students Say
Likes
- The college's overall environment and campus Infrastructure was well made with good proportion to greenery, departments separated by blocks and game fields for sports.
- The campus allows for interaction between students with social spaces like libraries and communication spaces
- Personal and professional development courses were provided by various organizations for welfare of students.
Dislikes
- College timings were changed along the 3rd year which made it slightly inconvenient.
- Placements provided were good but the training could be improved to prepare students better
- Very rarely some staff would be very strict during early college days for no reason and be negligent in the final years
Course Curriculum Overview
The curriculum is well made and suits the specific courses takes. It not only contains the core subjects but also Elective subjects and allied subjects that improve the overall knowledge level of students. In some semesters it might feel like the classes and content covered is slightly fast compared to other semesters. It can be due to some department events conducted at the college or preparing for participating in events conducted at other colleges
Internships Opportunities
Internship oppurtunities are quite lacking due to the college itself not providing them. Students mostly have to seek out outside oppurtunities for internships with stipends. The college does not allow students for attending internship during class hours and it severely affects the process. Projects are often performed individually by each students. Most departments do not allow for group projects. I feel like it restrains the collaboration between students in performing team tasks.
Placement Experience
As for placements, placement training was given from the second year onwards. Weekly training time was scheduled and students attended those trainings given by placement trainers. Final year students in both UG and PG were elidgible for attending the placements. The placements were quite well done but some students would not attend them due to lack of interest. Placement trainings were adequately given but making sure the students attended the placements was not made sure of. Companies like Zoho, KGISL were among the visits. But compared to non-IT related requirements, IT requirements were very few. Average packages ranged from 2.5 to 3.5 LPA. I plan to pursue Masters after my UG degree. As of my knowledge, very few students in my batch were placed. Then they had to come back for Exams and it interfered with some students that were placed in long distance companies.
Fees and Financial Aid
My course is B.Sc.Information Technology at Hindusthan College of Arts and Science. My batch was 2023 - 2026. The tuition fee was Rs.78,000 per year. It has slight increase of Rs.500 to Rs.1000 per year depending on books provided for some subjects. The overall fee stayed the same for all 3 years. As for Financial aid, I recieved 50% Sports Scholarship due to my Sports achievements. Some of my classmates got scholarships based on marks secured in 12th Board examinations. For marks above 85% to 90% , fee concessions were provided respectively.
Campus Life
The overall campus life was satisfying. There was good amounts of canteens spread accorss the camps allowing for having snacks and food availability. It also allowed for social interactions at these places. Cultural festivals are often conducted at the college level with thousands of students joining. One of the popular culturals was 'Hilaricas'. It is a national level symposium. It is typically held in the month of February. Libraries have a wide array of selections based on various topics. Technology in the classroom is a little lacking as each departments has roughly 2 projectors and it will take some time to set them up. So faculties often avoid the hassle and rarely use it. Spaces for sports activities are quite good with places for sports such as Cricket, Volleyball, Basketball, etc...
Admission
I chose this college because it had Full-time timings unlike some nearby colleges that provides part-time timings. The overall admission process could be described as smooth. Plenty of guidance and information was given regarding the documents needed, the facilities available and the fee structure and other detailed information. It allowed for comparision between other institutions and making the decision process easier. Changing the timings at the final year was inconvinient because I had chosen this college because of these specific timings.
Faculty
The faculty are trained professors with good knowledge in their subjects. Most faculties are easy going and approachable. Very few seem too strict and not very approachable. Some faculties would help with resolving personal problems and issues. Very few would have slightly rude behaviours towards some students. 2 Internal exams and a Model exam is conducted per semester along with the University exam. Practical exams are conducted based on courses. Passing the Exams can be somewhat easy. Getting higher grades can be challenging and it is rewarded.
Interview Experience
There was a small discussion before the application process regarding the marks scored in 12th and the subjects that would be in the course chosen. The discussion was more of a interactive session rather than a Test or a Interview. It helped to understand the scope of the course and other details involved with the admission process
Night Life
The night life is quite good as it often has canteens operation untill 8 to 9pm inside the campus. Hostel students are allowed to visit it and get food. Libraries typppically close around 5pm as the in-charge staffs start to leave the campus. Sports courts are also closed at similar times with some exceptions Other locations like gym and sports grounds are not available inside the campus after hours. Students have to leave the campus ground if the need these facilities. Students can roam around the local area and it is considered safe since it is in the core of the city.
