Course Curriculum Overview

5

"I chose BCA because I have an interest in computers and coding. The curriculum is prescribed by Gauhati University. It covers all the important basics like C, C++, Java, and Web Technologies. It is good for building a strong foundation if you want to go for an MCA later. However, I feel the syllabus needs a little update. It should include more modern technologies like Python and Android development in the early semesters. Right now, it is a bit theory-heavy. The exams are held on time, usually in December and June. The practical exams are very important, and the external examiners ask questions strictly from the syllabus."

Internships Opportunities

5

"The internship opportunities at ADP College are mostly student-driven. The college does not provide direct campus internships with high stipends, but the faculty helps us find opportunities in local IT firms and agencies in Nagaon and Guwahati. Usually, in the 5th and 6th semesters, we are encouraged to take up summer internships or live projects. Most students work with local computer centers or startup web agencies. The roles offered are generally for Junior Web Developer, Data Entry Operator, or Hardware Technician. Regarding the stipend, most of these local internships are unpaid or offer a small amount like Rs. 2,000 to Rs. 3,000 as travel allowance. However, the main benefit is the learning experience. Apart from this, the BCA curriculum includes a Major Project in the final semester. We have to build working software (like a Library Management System or Student Portal). This project work is very important and acts as a practical internship experience for us."

Placement Experience

5

"To be honest, the campus placement at ADP College is average. Students become eligible for placements from the 5th or 6th semester. Since this is a general degree college, we don't see very big tech giants visiting frequently. Mostly, students try for off-campus drives like TCS Smart Hiring or Wipro WILP. Some local IT firms and agencies from Nagaon and Guwahati also visit the campus. The average salary package is around 1.8 Lakhs to 2.5 Lakhs per annum. The highest package usually goes up to 3 Lakhs. Around 30% to 40% of students get placed, mostly in roles like Junior Developer, System Support, or BPO sectors. Many students prefer to go for higher studies instead of taking these jobs.

Fees and Financial Aid

Since BCA is a self-financed professional course at ADP College, the fees are a bit higher than the regular arts or science streams. I pay around Rs. 50,000 per year. This fee covers the tuition, computer lab charges, library fees, and other union funds. Apart from the yearly admission fees, we have to pay the examination fees separately to Gauhati University during the form fill-up of every semester. That costs around Rs. 1,000 to 1,500 depending on the practical subjects. regarding scholarships, most students here apply for the 'Ishan Uday' scholarship (UGC) which is very popular in the North East. If you maintain a good percentage and attendance, you can also apply for the state merit scholarship. The fee hike is not very frequent, so the cost is predictable for the 3-year duration."

Campus Life

5

"Campus life at ADP College is simple but very lively. The most awaited event of the year is the 'Annual College Week' which is usually held in January or February. During this week, we have sports competitions, singing, dancing, and debate contests. The whole college environment becomes very festive. We also have a grand Freshers' Social in August or September to welcome new students. Saraswati Puja is also celebrated with great enthusiasm on the campus. Talking about infrastructure, the Central Library is one of the best parts of the college. It has a huge collection of books, magazines, and newspapers. As a BCA student, I can easily find reference books for coding and mathematics. The classrooms are spacious, and the computer labs are equipped with projectors for practical learning. For extracurricular activities, the college has active NCC and NSS units. Many students join these for social service and camps. There is also a Red Ribbon Club. We have a playground for sports like football, cricket, and volleyball, which are mostly played during the sports week. The social atmosphere is very friendly, and seniors are quite helpful."

Admission

"I had also applied to Nowgong College for the same course. However, I chose ADP College because the BCA department here has a better reputation for practicals and lab facilities. Also, the location of ADP College was more convenient for my daily commute compared to others. The admission process was completely merit-based; there was no entrance exam. I applied online through the college's official portal. The eligibility criteria was to pass the 12th standard with Mathematics or Computer Science as a compulsory subject. After applying, the college released a merit list based on the 12th board percentage. Since I had scored 73%, my name appeared in the first list itself. The typical cutoff for BCA is around 55% to 60%. After the list was out, I had to visit the college for document verification and fee payment. The entire process was smooth and hassle-free."

Faculty

5

"The faculty members of the Computer Science department are very supportive. I especially like the way our HOD sir teaches; he makes difficult coding concepts easy to understand. They are friendly with students but very strict about 75% attendance and practical files. We follow the Gauhati University semester system. There are exams every 6 months. Before the final semester exams, the college conducts two sessional exams (internals). The internal marks depend on these sessionals and class attendance. The final exams are not too difficult if you study the previous years' questions, but many students find the Mathematics paper a bit tough. You need to study regularly to clear the papers without backlogs."

Night Life

5

"Since Nagaon is a small town, there is no concept of a 'nightlife' like in big metro cities. The lifestyle here is simple and peaceful. Most of the shops and markets close by 8:30 PM or 9:00 PM. For us students, the evening hangout spots are mostly the fast-food stalls near the college gate or the Haibargaon market area. We usually go there for tea, momos, and snacks in the evening. There are a few restaurants nearby where we sometimes go for dinner, but we return early. regarding safety, the locality is safe, but roaming around late at night is not common here. The hostel rules are strict about timings. The in-time for the boys' hostel is around 8:00 PM, and for the girls' hostel, it is even earlier (around 6:30 PM). So, after dinner, most students stay inside their hostels or PGs and study."

I had a little bit of interest in computers from my childhood. When I grew up the interest is increased a little bit more. After completing my HS I decided to take admission in the Computer science program. Then one of my friends suggested me to take admitted to Madhab Choudhary college, BARPETA for the BCA course. Our faculty : student ratio is 1:15 . Our Both two facilities had completed master degree course in Computer Application . I will not say that they are give their best to teach us but they are good in teaching . After every 5 month they conduct sessional exam . And the final exam is held in every six month of period . There is little bit moderate to pass the examination .
