Life at CGC Landran

I’d rate the curriculum like 7/10 in terms of relevance and comprehensiveness — it covers all the major CSE subjects like DSA, OS, DBMS, CN, AI, ML, Cloud, Cybersecurity basics, etc., and honestly that was one of the reasons I chose this course because at least the core subjects are solid even if PTU keeps some old-school stuff in the syllabus. The curriculum does prepare you for real-world stuff, but only to a point — like, if you focus on coding labs and projects you’ll be fine for internships, but if you depend only on classroom theory then it won’t help much because industry wants hands-on skills. For higher studies also it’s okay because theory depth in subjects like OS and DBMS is decent enough. But yeah, improvements are definitely needed — some subjects feel outdated, teachers should use more practical examples, and we need more real projects instead of copy-paste lab manuals; also some faculty teach directly from slides which gets boring fast. Exams come twice per semester (sessionals) plus the final end-sem around December/May; they’re mostly easy if you write long answers, but tricky if you rely only on understanding because PTU likes theory-heavy questions. Overall, the system works, but it could be way more practical and industry-focused.

Basic annual fees is around 82,000. With a slight increase every year in the tuition fees. Can be said to be affordable but the college management keep yearns for fees even before the due dates or for another semester before it arrives. Many other fees are also there. According to student reviews, some batches (like 2023, 2024) report paying ? 1.3-1.4 lakh per year. So compared to older batches, fees are going up.

Campus life here is typically th best part of CGC ,so socially it’s very active, there’s always something going on, and you never really feel bored. Our main annual fest is Parivartan, usually around October–November, and the technical fest is Tech Invent, mostly held in March; both are pretty huge, with events, competitions, celebrity nights, stalls, and all that typical college hype. The library is actually decent — we have all the common CSE books (Galvin, Tanenbaum, CLRS, Kanetkar, Forouzan, etc.) and a good collection of journals, also you can access digital resources, so if you’re into research or projects, you won’t struggle. Classrooms are mostly smart-class type with projectors, decent WiFi, and some labs have new systems while some still have older PCs but they work fine for coding and projects. For sports, campus has cricket ground, football ground, basketball courts, volleyball, badminton, gym, etc., so if you’re into extracurriculars, you’ll find something; plus there are cultural clubs, dance/music groups, drama societies and all. There are also student-run clubs like coding clubs, robotics club, photography club, and some social groups that arrange events, workshops and hackathons like these actually help a lot in making friends and getting exposure beyond academics. Overall, campus life feels lively, supportive, and pretty balanced like not too strict, not too chaotic, just a good college vibe.

So honestly, I chose CGC Landran mainly because it felt like the most “value for money + safe placement option” out of the colleges I applied to , I had applied to Chandigarh University, Chitkara, Rayat Bahra, and a couple of govt colleges through JEE counseling, and I actually got confirmed admission in CU and Rayat Bahra too, but CGC felt more balanced in terms of fees, crowd, hostel vibe and overall campus life. CU was too crowded and felt a bit like a “factory”, and Chitkara was way too expensive for me, plus their strictness is next-level. I did get rejected from one govt college because my JEE rank wasn’t good enough (my percentile was okay but not that great, only 89%ile), so cutoffs didn’t work in my favour there — basically I messed up my Maths paper. CGC’s admission process was pretty chill: you need to have passed 12th with PCM and a decent percentage, and they accept both JEE Main and non-JEE (direct merit) admissions; most students join through direct merit because JEE cutoff here isn’t very high. Cutoff is not fixed but usually if you have around 70%+ in boards, you’ll get CSE easily in early rounds. The overall admission experience was smooth — counseling, document verification, paying the initial amount, and that’s it. For me, CGC just felt like the right mix of academics, placements, and affordability, so I picked it over the others without overthinking too much.

Honestly, faculty here is kinda mixed — our faculty-to-student ratio is roughly like 1:25–30, so sometimes classes feel a bit crowded, but most teachers are actually pretty approachable if you catch them after class or in their cabins; still, they won’t chase you, you have to go yourself. In CSE, I personally liked Mamta and Anita ma’am for DSA because she explains logic in a very simple way and actually gives real coding examples, and Arun sir for OS because he treats students casually and doesn’t act strict for no reason. On the flip side, I never vibed with Rohit sir for DBMS because his teaching felt too theory-heavy and he rushed through topics, and Kaur ma’am for Maths used to give surprise assignments that felt pointless. Course structure is the usual PTU style — theory + labs every semester, some subjects feel outdated but core CSE stuff like DSA, OS, CN, DBMS, AI, ML etc. are relevant. Exam system is also typical PTU: two sessionals + final end-sem, and most students clear exams unless someone literally doesn’t study (maybe 10–15% struggle in Maths or COA). Overall, exams aren’t very tough, they’re more memory-based, but labs and assignments matter for internals, so if you manage those, passing isn’t a big deal.

Nightlife around CGC Landran is honestly chill and lowkey, nothing crazy like big city vibes but enough to unwind after classes; inside campus most things shut early like gym closes around 8–8:30 PM, cafeterias wrap up by 7 7:30 , library shut around 6 PM, and public areas like academc blocks also get locked after evening, and hostel in-time is usually around 9–9:30 PM for boys and 7:30–8 PM for girls, so most of the “nightlife” is basically hostel-based. My favourite hangout spots inside campus are the Central Green, Nescafé point, Juice Bar, the parking area near Block 7, and random hostel rooftops where people chill, gossip, play music or just sit with Maggie at night. Outside the campus, the most common spots are Landran Square, Burger Point, Havmor, Chai Sutta Bar, Sethi Dhaba, Sector 70–71 Mohali cafés, and sometimes students go to VR Punjab Mall for late evening movie or food.
