Course Curriculum Overview

4

Heritage Institute of Technology has the best Biotechnology curriculum for B.Techin WB. The infrastructure and faculties has good connections and well-versed in research. The institute allows one compulsory internship to be completed during 3rd year, which allows us to facereal-life industry problems. Teaching methods can be improved and advanced by not just reading from ppts, but letting students face the industry more. Suprose tests are held throughout the semester. Practical exams happen before theory. End-of-semester theory exams are held in May and December, every year.

Internships Opportunities

5

In our department, only SRFP provided a research internship with stipend. All other internships were non-stipend based, ranging from research to industry. My internship was in JU and it was a in vivo research. Final year projects are assigned to students well before and frequent reviews by guides are done.

Placement Experience

3

Students become eligible from the 7th semester and that's when the companies start approaching. In 2025, for biotechnology, companies such as TCS, Cognizant, Capgemini, Nestle, Zifo visited. A total of 12 offers were made. 50% students were placed among who registered. I am currently pursuing M.E in BIOPROCESS TECHNOLOGY from JADAVPUR UNIVERSITY.

Fees and Financial Aid

First year fees is 102700 and for TFW students is 42200. Semester wise fees is 69500 and TFW students is 9000. Examination fees is 1200 and Registration fees is 500. Scholarships are provided need-based and student loans are dispatched at lower interest rate.

Campus Life

5

Every year, tech fests, business fests such as HULT PRIZE; and respective clubs have their own fests. The institute has an underground library with ample books from curriculum to literature in different languages. It also houses a digital library. Every classroom has a chalk board and a smart board, equipped with a projector. Sports such as cricket and football trainings are provided. Student-run social groups are plenty, the institute has its own clubs - drama, dance, sports, science, language, etc.

Admission

I applied to SRM and BIT. I did not choose SRM because the fees were too high and rejected BIT because the infrastructure was not as good as Heritage, although the fee structure was same. To get admission in Heritage, one must clear WBJEE or JEE. Cutoff ranks differ in each department In 2021, for Biotechnology, the cutoff rank was 15000. WBJEE is preferred more by students, because the exam pattern is slightly easier than JEE.

Faculty

4

For each class, faculty to student ratio is 1:60. Faculty-student relations is quite good and teachers are very approachable in terms of research or industry support. Best faculties in our department with highest number of connections are- Riddhi Goswami, Nandan Kumar Jana and Srabanti Basu(HOD). Some teachers are not very approachable like those of placements. For each subject we had 4 surprise tests throughout the semester, practical exams and end-sem exams.

Night Life

3

Heritage has a single underground library housing ample books. The institute has two cafeterias serving delicious foods. Hostel is only for girls and the last entry time is 8:30PM. The most famous hangout place is just opposite the gate, although Ruby houses other hangout places.

Placement Experience:

Despite the low fee structure, my college provides a good placements. Almost every student of CSE Dept who sit for placement, gets the placement between 4lpa - 6lpa. Last year the highest package was ?12 lpa. ECE department has the lowest percentage of placements. And other engineering departments have between 60-70% placement. All the mentioned above is the description of in campus placement. Not many students of my college opt for out campus. But if they do, they get good placements as per the reports. In 2021 a student secured the job in Microsoft, with the placement of ?45 lpa (out campus).

Course Curriculum Overview:

I am a student of Computer Science Engineering and the curriculum prepares students of all branches for inter disciplinary courses, so that all branches have a basic idea of all branches of engineering in general. The curriculum stresses a lot on communication, social and personality development. There are regular lab classes and weekly assignments and tests to keep track of a student's progress. There are lots of extra and co curricular activities which enhance and add to the experience of a college student. The college follows the MAR point system proposed by MAKAUT, which includes and promotes a huge variety of this activities. In addition to this, the college has many clubs, the students of which participate actively in social activities like blood donation drive, marathon, cloth donation, self defence drive etc.

The placement of the college is average. During my time Cognizant and Infosys use to visit the campus and they hired many students. The ctc offered by the company was around Rs 3.5 lakhs per annum. Those who are unplaced need to apply off campus to other companies.
