Course Curriculum Overview

5

The reason I opted for this course was because of its uniqueness and my desire to learn something different than others. In the world of rehab, not a lot of people give thought. The curriculum prepares you only for exams and a little introduction to handling practical cases, most of the knowledge we learn can be used as a basic understanding of the whole course, it is only when we are out in the field that we get to gain some experience. The course curriculum can improve on adding some real world assignments which the students should do as a part of their final credit score and each assignment should be unique. The frequency of exams is 5-6 months, their difficulty level is moderate, nothing if you prepare well and give your best.

Internships Opportunities

5

Stipend was 12000, we were to be posted at college and out postings which were 5 in number, government hospitals, trust fund based hospitals were where our internship was. We were to take up speech therapies, take hearing tests, take up case histories and counsel the patients.

Placement Experience

3

Placements depend on the companies willing to organise an interview with the students. 75% of the students landed a job for 50000 after internship. Only one company visited us this year. On an average the package would be starting from 35000. My plans after getting my degree are to get a job and upskill myself soon after.

Fees and Financial Aid

The yearly fee structure when I joined in 2020 was 20250, and it keeps increasing every year, as of now it is around 30000 per year and the fee is less for SC/ST candidates, my batch mates in this category had to pay 19000. For me, the caution money deposit was 5000, the library fee was 4000 and tution fee was 16500. The registration fee was 800 rupees, and we would have to pay separately for semester exams fee, which would cost around 1500 Rs including memo, it will be more depending upon the number of backlogs one has. After completing internship, we had to pay 1950Rs for our practical examination and our consolidated memo. Overall, the course was very affordable, especially for those under SC/ST category. Those who apply for scholarships will have it reimbursed after the year end.

Campus Life

2

Various fests, events and competitions are held every year, especially on founding day and the week prior to it. Campus life is pretty chill but rules are followed by students, there is no ragging on campus. Cricket is a sport played at our college.

Admission

I applied to another university, but took up this exam as they both fell on the same date. I had already prepared for neet so I didn't have to prepare something extra. For my college, the admission process is to fill up a form on the website, wait for the date of exam, take up the exam which consists of 150 questions, without negative marking. Some branches prefer neet exam as well, students mostly opt for the college's entrance test. The cutoff is 50%, the admission process will be a little complicated as we will need a lot of documents to give.

Faculty

1

Faculty to student ratio is like 1:10, there are very limited faculty members and we don't get lectures often, we used to get lectures for miscellaneous courses but other than that we are all on our own. The faculties are moderately approachable as they tend to judge every student a lot, especially if you stand out of the crowd. I didn't like Dr Rajendra Kumar Porika, he is someone who is biased towards students, makes girls uncomfortable and isn't very polite with students. The exams are divided into 6 semesters, and they are a total of 29 papers, all of them are moderate in difficulty, the papers of audio and speech would cause some students to fail.

Night Life

2

There aren't any good hangout spots. The locality is moderately safe to roam around at night time. There are a few restaurants nearby and the institute has a neighbouring campus for mental health and that has a very big ground.

Course Curriculum Overview:

This course helps patients who have difficulties both in physical and mental aspects. Hence i choose this course. Teaching can be more practical and visualized. And i expect the teachers to teach different disabilities on patients. The exams are conducted after every 3 months so there is sufficient time to catch up on studies. But since the topics are hard there is worry of forgetting by studying all the chapters at once.

Placement Experience:

The students usually become eligible for campus placements after 4th year when their internship is over. Ziess, Baush and Lomb, and Lenskart are the companies that visits often in the college. They provide with workshops for students and also offer jobs. The highest packages are offered based on your performances. But the lowest package is really good. Also a lot of students get placement from this college.

Remarks:

Pros. 100% placement, good demand in this field. One can easily earn 10k per day. This college is under central Govt (Ministry of social justice and empowerment) so tution fee is very less. This is situated in kolkata. Cons. Very less people know about this subject hence scare to take it as career.
