Course Curriculum Overview

2

The curriculum for cse branch feels a bit outdated. There is no choice for a student to choose the language he want to use. Those year old c programming is still taught. In other similar college student are introduced to testing automation. But here only for a change 6th sem sub are added to 4th sem. No new thing is added. Though some subject like database computer network are good and open a vast range of option. But the programming subject are too poor. And no relevant or trending topics are taught. Exams are bit frequent somewhere within 2 months. Semester usually end in 4 months

Internships Opportunities

4

Internship opportunities are available in the college. In third year you can get Internship at any reputed company with stipend. Electrical students can get Internship at tata power as there is a mou signed. For mechanical students jsw vedanta hires frequently.

Placement Experience

3

Students after completing 6th semester are given chances to do internship and convert it to ppo A total of around 60 companies visited the campus last year. For core branches tata power ,jsw offers a lot of jobs in tech roles tcs capegemini and other service based companies hires. Also cisco hires via there hiring process. Student have also grabbed placement at amazon and ib like credit suisse and goldman sachs previously. Around 60% students are getting placed every year Last year a total of 650 offers are made. So its better to get a job via campus placement rather than trying off-campus

Fees and Financial Aid

The fees are of two types one for regular courses and other is self sustaining course there are also tuition fee waiver scheme for both categories The total fees for regular courses per semester is 21000 and mess fee of 17000 total 38000 The total fees for self sustaining course is 44000 and mess fee of 17000 total 61000 per semester for tution fee waiver scheme of regular courses 6000 is waived and total fee including mess will be 32000 and for ssc tfw the total fees will be 36000 There is not any scholarship provided by institute. But there are various state and national scholarship available for applying.

Campus Life

2

There are two festivals held every year one technical and one cultural but they are conducted at same time . The library is a bit small there is sitting space for only 50 60 students. And the books available are also very less but essential books are available for borrowing. Sports facilities are also good but maintainance is very poor. Annual sports event is also conducted every year. There a large no of clubs somewhere around 15 including tech and non tech. They are good and can increase your network. But most of the times you are engaged in things which you don't want to do. Thus it can be a bit frustrating

Hostel Facilities

3

For boys there are 3 new hostels and 4 old hostels In new hostel room are good and wifi is also there but the food and mess are very bad In old hostel rooms are of very poor condition but the food facilities are much better. The Hostel fees is affordable 17000 per semester including mess fee also mess refund fees are given if your stay time in hostel is less. There are available rooms and pg nearby and are also affordable.

Admission

I applied for outr Bhubaneswar and vssut burla. I was getting electrical branches in both the colleges. But in outr there are not enough hostels for student neither the campus is that much attracting. O the other hand vssut have total 11 hostel and can accommodate every student studying and the campus is also somewhat good. But for csit branches there are not enough facilities in vssut To get admission here you have to get a rank in jee main exam and have to go through ojee counselling. To get to cse branch your all India rank must be within 1lakhs and for electrical branch its about 1.5lakhs and for lower branches production rank does not matter that must there are seats pending vacant you can get them via spot counselling

Faculty

4

The faculty members are well qualified and are very experienced. In some branches like ece there are huge number of faculty member and also each student is assigned a mentor teacher. Also mechanical branch also have good number of faculty members. And in other branches like mme production the student teacher ratio is good. In electrical branches the teachers are good though the ratio is a little less. In csit the faculties for pg studies are better than ug and it feels a bit outdated as they don't incorporate new technologies in their teaching same old methodology is used though they are csit teachers. Coming to the exam part there are two exams conducted in each semester the mid sem comprises of a total 30 marks and end sem of 50 marks and an internal mark of 20 makes the total of 100 for each subject. Out of which the final grade is evaluated. Passing the paper depends on the faculty who check the copy. While some faculty are relaxed while some are strict. If your total is less than 40 in a subject out of 100 then you are considered to be failed. And have to give back papers in summer vacation.

Night Life

3

There used to be a market infront of the hostels which is now demolished. Inside the hostel there is not anything much to do. In Timings for girls hostel is 6pm and for boys of new hostel it is 7pm old hostels usually occupied by seniors dont have any in timing For college there is no such timing you can go any time if you want. There are a large no of attractive spots within a very short radius of college Some spots like hirakud dam dyke syphon are popular hangout spots Tourist places like samaleswari temple ghanteswari temple are also accesible via mo bus Its safe to roam in night but there is nothing much to,explore

Siksha 'O' Anusandhan University - [SOA], Bachelor of Technology [B.Tech] (Computer Science and Engineering)
Reviewed on Jan 9, 2026(Enrolled 2023)

Course Curriculum Overview:

1. Relevance & Comprehensiveness (Rating: 7/10) The course curriculum at SOA is updated frequently compared to state government colleges. Why I chose this: I was attracted to the fact that the syllabus includes modern electives like Artificial Intelligence, Cloud Computing, and Data Analytics starting from the 3rd year itself, rather than waiting for the final semester. Real-world Prep: The curriculum is designed largely to crack placement interviews. There is a heavy focus on Aptitude and Core Coding subjects (DS/Algo) which helps in getting a job. However, for deep research or R&D roles, the theoretical depth is sometimes lacking. 2. Areas for Improvement Teaching Methods: A major issue is the reliance on PowerPoint Presentations (PPTs). Many faculty members just read off the slides. I would prefer more "Whiteboard Teaching" for mathematical and logic-based subjects. Lab Records: We spend hours handwriting practical records/files which are just copied from the manual. This is a waste of time. This time should be used for live coding projects or hackathons. Outdated Subjects: First-year students (even in CS/IT) are forced to learn heavy mechanical/civil concepts. While basics are good, the depth of these non-core subjects should be reduced. 3. Exam System & Difficulty Frequency: It is quite hectic. We have 2 semesters a year. Each semester has 2 Internal Assessments (Quizzes/Mid-sems) and 1 End-Semester Exam. Basically, you have an exam every 1.5 to 2 months. Difficulty: The exams are Easy to Moderate. It is not very difficult to pass. If you study the "Class Notes" and "Previous Year Questions" for 3-4 days before the exam, you can easily score an 8.0 SGPA. The checking is lenient for passing, but strict if you are aiming for a 9.5+ SGPA.

I actually have a very little idea about placements of our uni few seniors says there is not a single company visiting, while few were discussing the highest placement which was something like 20lpa or something,i think companies do visit our campus it may not be much but i have definetly seen one or two companies visiting. I plan to do MBA after my Btech so i am not that serious about whether i am getting placed or not.

Gandhi Engineering College (GEC Autonomous), Bachelor of Technology [B.Tech] (Computer Science and Engineering)
Reviewed on Dec 22, 2025(Enrolled 2023)

Course Curriculum Overview:

I mainly chose this course because the college is Autonomous, which allows them to update the syllabus faster than standard university colleges; seeing subjects like Python and Data Science in the early semesters really influenced my decision. The curriculum is decent for getting placed in service-based companies like TCS or Wipro since they focus heavily on the basics and aptitude, though for high-end product roles or research, you have to put in extra effort yourself. I definitely think they need to reduce the theory load and focus more on practical coding because sometimes it feels like we are just writing assignments instead of building things. Also, the junior faculty rely too much on reading from slides, which really needs to change to make classes more engaging. As for exams, it feels like we are always writing them since we have two internals and one end-semester exam per term. They are moderately difficult and the checking is strict, so you can't slack off, but the tight schedule can get quite exhausting.
