- Campus placements are pretty good for M.Sc students other than other IITs.
Dislikes
- The mess food is not very good, and you may get bored of it after some time.
- Lack of transportation and city lifestyle.
- Some faculty members are really strict, so it become tough to get a good score.
Course Curriculum Overview
I chose the Mathematics and Computing branch because I was a mathematics student in B.Sc. This course gives many opportunities, you can go for placements(Tech + ed-tech both) or opt for P.hd. The professors are pretty helpful in core academics but for extra curriculum activity, they should help students to improve in their domain. The frequency and timing of exams are strictly followed and professors teach what is in the course curriculum before the exams.
Internships Opportunities
In the pre-final year, internship opportunities are open for us. For that, the eligibility criteria is around 6 or 7 cgpa. Companies like Axtria, Google, Microsoft, Adobe, etc visit our college. For M.Sc students, fewer companies are visiting for internship opportunities.
Placement Experience
Overall placements are pretty decent in our college. Companies visit for on-campus placement for final-year students from December to March April. Companies like Microsoft, Google, Uber, Axtria, Meesho, etc visit. The packages are also pretty good with an average package of 20 LPA and the highest package of 70 LPA. This year around 200 students got placement in day-1. I plan to take a decent placement in the IT field after my graduation.
Fees and Financial Aid
The overall fee is around Rs. 1,80,000 (for 2 years in total), yearly 90,000 including academic charges, Tuition fees, Hostel fees, Mess Charges, Admission fees, lab fees, etc. For the SC/ST category, there is no Tuition fee. So their fee is around 74,000 per year. MCM/NSP/State Board scholarships are available for the students.
Campus Life
I enjoyed my campus life so much in these years. Every occasion and festival is celebrated on campus, so we enjoy it a lot. The annual fest Srijan and the tech fest Concetto are held along with several smaller fests through the years. There are many clubs as well like dance club, Music club, technical club, sports club etc. Every year Inter-IIT events are held. Our Central Library is Asia's second-largest library. Range and accessibility of books and journals available in our library.
Hostel Facilities
I am from Ruby Hostel and It has accommodation for 2 people. It includes a Bed, a Chair, a desk, and a mirror for both of us. And it is pretty large for 2 people. The meal quality is not so good, after some days you will bored because of mess menu. In snack time they give tea and Biscuits. They can improve these things.
Admission
I got into this college by JOAPS counselling, My IIT JAM MA rank was AIR-539 (EWS Category). I chose this college because of my branch (Mathematics and Computing) and it was my choice according to my rank. So I was happy about the college I got into. For M.sc Admission IITs conduct the IIT JAM exam and by JOAPS counseling you can be admitted into this college. The eligibility criteria is 55% in your graduation for all IITs. The cutoff for last year was around 450 for open category. Overall It was really a good experience to get into IIT Dhanbad.
Faculty
Coming to the faculty members, the faculty-student ratio is pretty decent. The course structure is strictly followed by professors, they are highly qualified and many of them are from prestigious foreign universities. Some professors are well-behaved and some of them are very strict about grades. There are 4 frequent exams in a semester Quiz 1, Mid Semester, Quiz 2, and End Semester are held respectively. The level of examination is pretty good, everything comes from the syllabus and the notes provided by professors. So only few number of students fail to clear the exams.
Night Life
Nightlife is not so great on our campus. You have to be in your hostel by 12 A.M. But hostel canteens are open till 3 a.m. Gyms, cafeterias, library, and all public areas are open till 12 a.m. Hangout places are the main canteen, RD tea Stall, Barista, Main heritage building, etc.
