Course Curriculum Overview

5

the course curriculum is top-class. The institute is Autonomous under the University of Calcutta, so it must compulsorily cover the entire parent university syllabus, additionally we get extra portions as well. The electives offered were one-of-a-kind, and extremely curated ones. Application-based education is focused on and with the introduction of NEP, more so. Research or job, either way, the course prepares you. Most of our students get into extremely reputed higher study institutes in India as well as abroad. Improvement could be to include coding modules in regular course. exam frequencies are well span out and not be worried about, and they are difficult and are often scrutinised by parent university peoples.

Internships Opportunities

3

internships are usually on self. The students individually look for such opportunities on appropriate platforms and do make the cut. The institutional reputation helps in securing internships as well. Well, I cannot share about my project due to the company's internal policy of the consulting firm I interned for.

Placement Experience

4

Eligibility depends on the companies requirements. Usually in the final year you start preparing for interviews. Our placement cell was very active and it tried its best. TCS, Berger, PWC etc etc visited our campus. The packages are not known to me very surely, so would avoid quoting one, but take ballpark around 5lacs, which is pretty impressive considering the job market for non-engineering freshers. Majority of the students are inclined towards higher studies and government jobs, and the cell arranges for their preparation as well, and quite reputed ones. RKM is known to have a strong history of students getting top government jobs. Those who wished to have job, not all, but many have got offers. Although still I would say there is room for improvement.

Fees and Financial Aid

The fees are extremely reasonable and affordable considering that it is a private institution. The fees are comparable to govt institutes. The fees structure varies from course to course based on science vs non-science and lob vs non-lab subjects. There are multiple scholarship options that cover not only most part of the expenses often sometimes cover basic living expenses. Most students had scholarships. Scholarships are both merit and need-based, but often if there is no 'need', then even if you have merit, you won't get one. And being an institute of Ramakrishna Mission, I have also observed that certain truly needy students got additional support during financially hard times. Be rest assured you won't have to compromise your education regarding monetary issues. For the detailed and latest fees structure, please visit the Rmakrishna Mission Vidyamandira website, search for the latest 'Prospectus' -> fees structure page.

Campus Life

5

We are famous for our Bhratri-boron (fresher's welcome), one of a kind with vedic rituals unlike hooliganism of other institutes. The library is extremely rich and well-maintained with all sorts of journals and books and management systems. The classrooms are equipped with smart boards, and the environment is very pleasant and made for studies. There is a functional gym. There are sports facilities as well and students regularly play TT, carrom, football, cricket, badminton, et.c. Tournaments are held. Sports days are also held with various events tkaing place from sprinting to shot-put et.c. Faculties too take part in sports. Students committees look after tge welfare of the students. Multiple cultural events are organised. Belur Math or the ghats nearby give fresh breath. It has a positive environment amongstreligious activities. students regularly take part in multiple competitions organised by peer institute and do excel in them. Monastics and students live side by side and close together, helps in a lot of valuable exchange. The campus has zero-ragging. Seniors and juniors live cordially, so much so that it is even covered by media as a positive example of holistic environment. here in-person relationships and funs matter over digital ones. All in all a fun experience.

Hostel Facilities

5

The rooms come like any other hostel room. The hostel is within the campus, shared accomodation with shared bathrooms. You get bed, table, almirah, lights and fans, and that's enough. The rooms are well-maintained. The meal quality is good. The foods are rotated and nutritional values are kept in mind. Often feasts and all take place. There are special days with special menus. Hostel is compulsory for all and no tow ways. It is strict, disciplinary and fun. Afforadable definitely.

Admission

I got into Presidency University and other CU colleges for economics, rest i got were IIT KGP's B.Arch and JU's Civil, which i am not comparing here. I left Presidency for Ramakrishna Mission Vidyamandira (RKM) solely because of the fact that it was much better ranked and rated then. Presidency lost its glory on becoming university, and recognition and reputation has drastically fell, also the campus is politically afflicted. Thus I decided to shift to RKM. RKM has a robust reputation not only in India but globally, and is known for its academic rigor, positive atmosphere and the famous 'man-making' process. Ramakrishna mission in usual times take exams after which you were called for interviews and shortlisted. during Covid year there was exception when marks were considered for interview calls and admission. there is a saying the you are not selected but chosen to study at RKM, which I believe is true.

Faculty

4

Most of the faculties are extremely reputed in their respective fields. Most of the faculties are published and active researchers with significant contribution to their respective fields. Some faculties have got national and international research recognition as well. in our department, we had riddhi maharaj, debkumar chakrabarti, subrata maharaj amongst others who are simply fantastic. a handful are trained in reputed foreign institutes. the class population being low the faculty-student ratio is quite good. faculties and students are like a family, they are very close to each other, advantages of having small batch, and are very approachable. even the ones we didn't like were some of the brightest, that is what we realize now. exams are quite difficult, given we are an autonomous institute and known for our academic rigor, but similarly, only good quality students are taken and excellent teaching, makes matter well under control. exams are application-oriented.

Interview Experience

4

The usual admission process includes written/MCQ exams, followed by interview shortlisting followed by selection. In our batch, during Covid, the admission test portion was scrapped and based on board scores the interview shortlisting was done. Being an institute of repute, high standards are maintained and only selected top students make it to the top selection. It is a common saying " that you are not selected but chosen at RKM" and believe me it is true. The cohort has exceptionally multi-talented students from diverse backgrounds. tip: as academic rigor is high, be prepared with your acads, but also remember your co and extra-curricular activities.

Night Life

5

Nightlife is fun but in a different sense. Firstly you are not allowed to go out of the campus after evening prayer, that is around 6PM. Secondly all the lights of the hostel turn off centrally at 11PM sharp. There are locations around, but you won't be able to go there usually, unless you go there in the dusk but there is a high chance of getting caught and scolded. Remember you are amongst strict monastics. But also remember that life finds a way, and this is what prepares you for life, of how to do your wishes amidst harsh restrictions. We did enjoy a lot in the night times, had gossips, did pranks, partied with torch lights, etc. Hostel rising bell is at 5AM and sleeping starts at 11PM, with 2 compulsory prayers one in the early morning and one in the evening, wearing dhotis. Safety is top class and there is nothing to worry about.

Placement Experience:

People who major in my department usually opt for masters over placement not because of this college but because overall industrial or academic opportunities are better with a pg degree. Masters from this college is not recommended as i have heard so from my seniors. Some of my seniors managed to crack competitives and secure MSc seats at great places. Training and Placement cell had a good coordinator previously but now its almost non existent. Companies do come and hire Bpharm, Mpharm and MSc candidates. Packages are below average. Only Nestle pays well. But if you do well you'll eventually climb up the corportate ladder. From the time i am here i have not heard of any BSc candidate getting placed. Most go for higher studies.

Course Curriculum Overview:

B.Sc Computer Science Faculty: Student ratio is = 4:23 may vary a bit Faculty are well Qualified & Teaching method is okay good, but not to the mark like very good or excellent. The exam term was timely (sometimes it gets a bit late due to some natural disaster like cyclone, heavy rainfall, etc or any govt. & university delays), and the exam level is nearly too difficult, something like in between moderate to difficult.

I had filled all the forms online. They create an account for you where you get all your admission information. As I had 89% marks, I do not had to give entrance exam and interview. The admission was quite easy for me. I just had to visit the college once and submit the demand draft and some forms, after which the admission was done. I just had to go to the university and attend classes.
