Remarks

College is one of the best in India for studing biotechnology and bioinformatics. Placements are mostly based on student initiatives. College however provides all necessary support, help and connections.

Entrance Preview

The entrance is throught GATE followed by another round of written qualifier and interview. I had a decent GATE score and stood third in the entrance. The main reason for choosing UOH was the brandname and quick scholarships.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

The course is designed by reputed scientists from UOH and CDFD. Several electives are also offered by the department of mathematics and computer sciences like neural network, object oriented programming, etc. Students can also undergo internships from neighbouring labs and institutes.

Internships Opportunities

Internships are provided. Stripend depends on the project fundings. It ranges from 5000 to 12000 depending on the type of scholarship.

Placement Experience

3.5

Industry placements are offered for M.tech bioinformatics in companies like TCS Research, Strands life sciences and Dr. Reddys for biotech. However many students choose PhD as an option. The batch strength ranges from 15 to 30 out of which about 5 to 10 gets a good placement. Most other opt for higher research path in India or abroad. All students in previous batches are engaged either in Industry or academia.

College Events

Annual cultural fest is celebrated with great enthusiam. Famous artists and bands from Bollywood and Tollywood are invited. Students also showcase their talents like dance, singing, theatre, poetry, etc. Other community events are also celebrated along with frequent in campus movie screenings, DJ events and dance/singing/painting competitions. Holi is one of the event which is celebrated here with great zeal.

Fee Structure And Facilities

As it is a government institute the fee structure is nominal and can be easily paid from the scholarships. However a small amount (approx 20k) needs to be paid at the time of admission. The hostel fees are dirt cheap. Other expenses lime laptop and a bicyvle would be an optional addition.

Fees and Financial Aid

UOH offeres MHRD as well as in house scholarships to students. GATE and NET are however the main criteria for scholarships.

Campus Life

5

Extremely diverse student population belonging to all states in India as well as people from other countries study and work here. Frequent debates, conferences and seminars are a norm. Has an active political atmosphere with elections and votings. However, most of the times the environment is peaceful and students may opt to stay out of politics and other affairs concentrating only on studies. It is advisable to non indulge in any drug abuse and other illegal activities.

Hostel Facilities

4

Hostel facilities are average but the new hostels are supposedly very good. Food depends on hostel to hostel but generally above average. Monthly special feasts are worth mentioning. The campus has three cafeteria centers and one can enjoy delicious food at subsidised rates.

Alumni/Alumna

Alumni network exists but not that strong. College needs to work a bit on this. However various groups in social networks serve as good option to connect and discuss.

Exam Structure

Exams are divided in majors and minors which is decided by the course coordinator. Some courses might become hectic but proves helpful in long run. A student needs to maintain at least 65% to qualify a course. Assignments and attendance also carry weightage in the mai exam.

Admission

The admission process is first by a GATE score based selection followed by a written and/or rigorous interview. Forms are generally available from nationalized banks and online. The overall process is very well structured including the

Placement Experience:

To be frank enough the placement of IIT is very excellent. Not only did the industrial leader visit the campus but IIT Hyderabad also promotes start-ups to take part in the recruitment drive. That gives us an opportunity to be part of a startups group. Companies like Accenture Japan, Google, Microsoft, MTX, Rakuten, TSMC, Tech Mahindra visit the campus. The highest placement package during our batch was 55 LPA from Google and the average package was around 17.50 LPA
