In their college cutting-offs are but the marks obtained by the last student being declared qualified. Example 1200 students sit there in exam. The number of students who need to be called counselling is supposed 600. Now a rank list is prepared on the basis of total marks obtained. The marks of the 600 students take is a cutoff.
