Remarks

The eligibility of the course is undergraduate degree from an recognized university. The application process begins around October every year with the filling of the application form with a fee of Rs 3000 (2022) on simsr.somaiya.edu. The college accepts various scores such as CAT, XAT, NMAT, etc. The cut off for shortlist is generally 80 percentile and score of 230 for CAT and NMAT respectively. I took up admission through NMAT with a score of 249. There are no reservations. After the shortlist, there 2 rounds - case discussion and personal Interview round. Each round has certain pre-determined weightage before final selection. The admission process is smooth but would take up ther entire day.

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

I chose the course because I was inclined towards management studies. There are a total of 60-75 faculty in the college and thereby having a faculty student ratio of close to 1:10. Most of the faculties have doctorate degrees or are either possessing it. Every trimester there is atleast 1 visiting faculty for every division in the college. The teaching method varies according to faculty but generally it is through PPTs, case discussion analysis and through video sometimes. Exams are conducted in a timely manner periodically and it is generally easy to pass if the student has atleast paid attendtion during the lectures.

Internships Opportunities

3.5

The internships opportunities in the Somaiya is more restricted than final placements. Nonetheless, all the students find internships. Companies such as Morgan Stanley, JP Morgan, GEP, Nestle, Britannia, Spencer's Retail, etc offer internship opportunities as well. The profile of the internship depends upon the role and the industry. Generally, many firms visit Somaiya for research intern roles.

Placement Experience

3.5

The college offers both summers as well as final placements. Summer placements start in August and usually, almost all the students are placed for summers by February end. The average stipend is close to Rs 25,000 Rs. The average Final placements are around 10 lacs Rupees with the highest placements above Rs 24 lac. Usually, 100% of the batch gets placed

Fees and Financial Aid

During my batch (2021-23) the fee is Rs 16,80,000 for 2 years excluding the hostel. The cost of books is covered in the fees. The fees are generally increasing 10% every year. While I did not applied for any scholarship, there are various scholarship for economically weak students in the campus such as Federal Bank Scholarship, etc and they are usually floated via mail.

Campus Life

4

The campus is yet to open due to the Covid scenario but I have visited the campus previously. It's lush green and lively throughout the day with students buzzing around. The annual fest is Melange held in February and all the committees take part in it. Books and an Entire database of various authentic sources is available online. Somaiya is especially known for its sports activities and has an athletic track, basketball court, football ground, and volleyball court as well. All the committees in the college are student-run.

Interview Experience

3.5

There are two rounds for admission in Somaiya, the first is the case discussion and the second one is the personal interview round. In the case discussion round, I was asked to analyze whether India should legitimize cryptocurrency & blockchain. Most case discussions topics are general in nature. The personal interview is more revolving around the CV and current affairs. Students can prepare for these rounds are inculcating a habit of reading newspapers daily.

Placement Experience:

The average Lpa of the college is 9 lpa so it is good. Marketing gets 100% placement as compared to other streams. There is booth on campus and off campus placement. And the placement cells bring good companies and there are chances of PPO also.

College management is not that good, which I felt is need to be improved. making everything student centric makes it difficult for students as well as college to be organised.

We learned a lot from the curriculum and the college itself. My journey was a mixed bag of feelings with many sweet and sour moments. The classroom sessions were fun and so were the field visits and management activities like webinars or mock marketing competitions.

The university gives you a great exposure to shape up your life for a great future. There's absolutely no racism and everyone is treated equally. This is the only institute in pune where girls and boys are found in almost equal numbers. In fact girls are encouraged to become entrepreneurs.
