Remarks

I had applied for different colleges like Kelkar and even my previous College CHM but my priority was always K J Somaiya. The college fit in perfectly with all my requirements. A good curriculum, great teaching faculty, access to all the libraries on the campus and a huge campus was just an additional charm. I got into the college at an undergrad level through the general quota and the cut off in 2019 was 80.04 so it wasn't very difficult for me to get in. The only requirement was for you to complete your +2. The admission process was smooth and I had no problem carrying out the entire procedure.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

The college is Autonomous so we have our own syllabus and it perfectly aligns with what we as students expect from the course. In FY and SY the class strength is 300 divided in 2 divisions. The facult is pretty skilled and manage to hold the attention of the students considering the number of students. Most of the professors hold a PHd degree and are highly accomplished in their respective fields. Even after shifting to the online medium, the professors have worked hard to adapt to the change and have given out remarkable results. The exams are conducted twice a year with internals and externals. The internals including writing assignments (analysis, research etc) or tests. The externals are usually written papers but currently, they are conducted in MCQ format too. Either way the difficult levels are from low to medium and high.

Internships Opportunities

4.5

There have been a few internship opportunities where students have been selected for works like graphic designing, translation, content writing. In 2019 the Whistling Woods Institute has conducted a workshop on 'a career in Mass media' and the best performer got an opportunity to intern with the speaker.

Placement Experience

4.5

The college doesn't provide any placement for the BA course but it does provide placement for the BCom students which starts at the beginning of the 5th Semester. Although the college doesn't provide the placements, there has been certain guidance sessions for the students which stand very helpful.

Fees and Financial Aid

The college provides the entire course for around 24K. The students have an option to pay the fees in installments or at once. The college does provide scholarships for students who might struggle with affording the course. This year due to the loses that have affected many due to the pandemic, the college has also offered to bear the fees of students who have lost the earning members of their family.

Campus Life

5

Somaiya has one of the best extracurricular experiences you can have. The number of options that one has after getting into the college is surprising. There is a forum for every possible interest that you might have. Cultural arts, tech, social service, media you have it all. Most of these forums, if not all are run solely by students under the surveillance of faculty members. The college has a vast number of books to offer. A student has access to all the libraries in the campus the only requirement being the somaiya ID. The campus offers various options for sports enthusiasts too. It homes a running track, a basketball court, a football ground, a gym etc. Fests cannot not be a part of your life if you are a somaiyite. Every department has it's own fest and it's a whole different experience in itself.

Course Curriculum Overview:

It's good, it's fun and I enjoy it. It changes every sem and that's why we also get to explore more of the subjects. It also depends on the professor tho. First year is to chose 6 different subjects and explore. Then second year you get to choose one major and two minors. Major are then divided into 3 parts, the 2 minor subject are elaborated and one compulsory subject which is English, this continues for third year. There are 2-3 additional subjects that change every sem too like PE, EVS, etc.

For a person who into music production this is the best course and College but any other music field consider other options. The administration is too poor and are harsh on the students but the teaching faculty is supportive.
