MBBS is exciting if you can remember the cause of why you choose!

I got admitted to Malda Medical College and hospital through admission where seniors and professors helped a lot regarding admission and getting hostel. First, we had to submit originals of a few certificates of school regarding 10+2. Then we got references from our hostel superintendent about hostel procedures and rules, regulations. I got a hostel overnight. The whole procedure was very smooth and co- operative with seniors.

Like all other medical aspirants, I wanted to be a doctor so I chased after NEET-UG through which I got admitted. The ratio of faculty: student is almost 1:10. Most of the faculty have completed their post-graduation and have excellent skills in patient handling and making a proper diagnosis. We have 2 semesters per year in a whole 4.5 years course with a year-ending professional exam each year. Exam papers are of moderate difficulty.

The internship is a part of the MBBS curriculum. It gets started just after completing the final mb exam. The stipend under our university WBUHS is 27k per month. As a peripheral college, we have to handle a huge amount of patient load. Shift duties of interns, house staffs are real challenges through which there's a lot to learn. It makes great opportunities for seeing rural India from a very basic level.

We have a very low fees structure as per a government medical College. We give fees per semester of 4572 rupees with hostel fees as low as 50 rupees per month. The opportunities regarding scholarships are maintained as per govt policy. The student administration section is very cooperative regarding this. I am still a final year student and currently on no such scholarship due to my well-to-do family background. But I have seen getting these facilities to my seniors, batchmate and juniors who are in acute need of this help.

Our annual fest BEATS is conducted in the 2nd-3rd week of September every year in the auditorium. There are several national and international journals in the library. All types of medical books remain available also. We have 3 lecture theatres with facilities of mic, blackboard, projectors and white screens. Every year 1 Intra college football, cricket and tennis tournaments are there. There are few Facebook and Instagram pages regarding official notice,fest etc.

Hostel rooms are available from the first year onwards for both boys and girls separately. The meal is available both in hostel canteen and college canteen. Different types of foods are available and the quality of food is moderate. We got recruited in the hostel directly from the admission desks.
