Remarks

Very good education i could get ' Value for Money' then as we were all Ist gen professionals trying hard for a degree and a future. I would say what I learnt from the University in a rural setting was 'Values'. As the saying goes : 'Valuables' are valuable but 'Values' are invaluable.

Entrance Preview

Wrote the algappa university management entrance had the option to study for MMS under Mumbai University in Mumbai, but couldn't afford fees and hostel rent etc.

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

Very good made excellent by good pedagogical interventions i specialised in Finance and Banking, at a time when there was no sectoral focus and I noticed that afterall even in IIMs most guys go to work in Foreign banks.

Internships Opportunities

Great i had the opportunity to do internship with CITI BANK NA in chennai with a stipend of Rs.2500/-pm those days which helped me to gain confidence and become a career banker later.

Placement Experience

3

During my days it was very good most of us were placed in Banks and FIs in attractive packages in the 1990s, Citi bank - Rs.8000, perks Stan chart rs.7500, perks Can bank rs. 6500, perks KVB rs.6000, perks CUB rs.5700, perks LVB rs,6000, perks TMB R rs6100, perks Fin cos rs.4500.

College Events

3.5

The university organised 'ALUTUS' alagappa University Talents & Cultural festival for 3 days which was a big draw we also conducted 4 techno managerial conferences during our 2 years studies there.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Very less remember my dad sending me a DD of around Rs.550 every month to cover my hostel and other expenses. Would have totally spent less than Rs.20, 000 only in 1990-92.

Fees and Financial Aid

Many govt scholarships, especially meant for weaker sections were on offer there were many who took loans and studying the Indian bank branch in the University used to meet the banking needs of the needy.

Campus Life

3

It was less of girls only about 30 %, most of the students were from Madurai, Trichi, and Ramnad districts. Many cultural and sports clusbs are there in the campus which are very active. I remember having participating in many Drama, Debates, Essay, and sports competitions and winning atleast 10 medals and certificates.

Hostel Facilities

4

Good in commensurate terms with genuine rural touch the wardens and each of the mess employees were very considerate. There were very many committees like Mess committee, Stores committee etc with student representatives to ensure quality of input and hygiene. The members were rotated / reconstituted every 2 months. Remember having served in such committees for atleast 2 terms.

Alumni/Alumna

A formal alumini association is there though not very effective. But, all our batch students are connected to this day except one who met with an uncertain end.

Exam Structure

University semester exams every six months conducted in the most credible fashion. Pass percentages were less than 50% then unlike the moderated 'pass all' culture seen now.

Faculty

4

Very committed, with a lot of rural touch and genuine empathy for students requirements and mentoring them to put them in their life path have good Guru Sishya relationship which each one of them till date.

Thiagarajar School of Management - [TSM], Post Graduate Diploma in Management [PGDM]
Reviewed on Mar 1, 2020

Admission:

Thiagarajar School of Management being one of the premier institutes in South India and PGDM being its Flagship Program, I had no hesitation in choosing Tsm. The high advantage of PGDM is that you will be involved with a lot of practical sessions rather than classroom learning. Moreover, PGDM is offered only by institutes recognized by All India Council for Technical Education(AICTE) and TSM has been also awarded NBA and NAAC Accreditation. Pgdm is where you can build your soft skills and the curriculum is flexible and does not have to follow university standards and also can be changed by the institutes according to the industry requirements. For admission, You need to take up entrance tests like MAT.CAT,XAT,CMAT and the candidate must have 3 years of bachelor's degree from a recognized university by the UGC. Candidates can apply for admission once the dates are released and the shortlisted candidates need to attend the GD followed by the PI. Candidates from Tamil Nadu can take up the state level entrance examination TANCET and students can apply for counseling and selected candidates are exempted from the GD/PI process and can directly take up admission.
