Remarks

The college management is really unhelpful in almost all cases. They do not pay the interns, even though government colleges pay the interns a lot of money, the money saved goes to their pockets. They charge parking fees for their own students. No sports facilities. But the teachers are really helpful and the you are exposed to a lot of patients in the hospitals.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

As I'm studying to become a doctor, the main emphasis will be on the practical knowledge. The course curriculum is completely based on imparting practical knowledge so that the graduate doctors will be able to treat the patients to the best of their ability. The course is for a duration of 4. 5 years followed by a year of internship. The first year has 3 subjects: Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry The second year has 4 subjects: Pathology, Microbiology, Pharmacology and Forensic Medicine The third year has 3 subjects: ophthalmology, otorhinolaryngology and Preventive and social medicine. The Fourth year has 4 subjects: Medicine, Surgery, Obestretics and Gynecology and Paediatrics. In the first year importance is given on teaching the basic knowledge of the human anatomy, physiology and the biochemistry in the human body so this provides the base of the whole course. It is very important as these basics are required before the students have to learn about the normal functioning of the body before they learn about the diseases and their cure. From 2nd year, importance is given on practical knowledge and application of this knowledge. We are made to interact with the patients at such an early phase in the course as the most important aspect of being a doctor is the interaction with the patients. We are required to visit different hospitals, primary health centres, rural health centres so that we are able to learn to treat and interact with patients from different social and economic backgrounds. Both theory and practical exams are conducted once a year by the RGUHS. It is required to do well in both the exams and equal importance is given to both. The university sets the rules and the paper for the exams.

Placement Experience

0.5

No placements take place in any Medical college in India so no companies or hospitals visit our college for placements. A compulsory internship is required for a period of one year to complete the course. It is supposed to be a paid internship but most of the private colleges in Karnataka do not pay their inters and hence our college too does not pay our interns. The interns are paid 30000 per month in all the government colleges in Karnataka.

College Events

2.5

Various quiz competitions and other academic competitions are held every in our college, both at the intracollege and inter collegiate level. A model WHO is held every year during the month of August so as to give the students a chance to understand and learn the working of the World Heath Organization and also participate in the mock assembly. A intra collegiate cultural fest is held every year for a period of 2 weeks wherein various quiz, fun games, ethnic day, cultural talents are displayed. Annual intra collegiate sports are also held. Not much importance is given on sports or cultural activities in the college and by the Professors or the administration, and these are mostly conducted and supervised by the students. An annual intra collegiate cricket tournament called KPL is organised at a grand scale every year.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fee structure is of 3 different types. Government fees: 1, 62, 952 per year for 4 years and 81, 476 for the 5th year. Private Fees (COMED-K): 8, 36, 565 per year for 4 years and 4, 18, 300 for the fifth year. Management fees: 36, 51, 000 per year for 4 years and 18, 25, 500 for the fifth year. The fees can be paid through Demand draft, NEFT or Online banking. The Government fees and Private fees is expensive when compared to other courses but cheaper compared to the fees of Medical colleges in other States. The Management fees is exorbitant.

Fees and Financial Aid

I did not opt for any scholarships or an education loans. The college does not provide any kind of scholarship but the state government provides scholarship to financially weaker students. Education loans can be obtained from various banks.

Campus Life

2.5

The gender ratio is almost 1:1 as the admission is based on merit and there is no gender discrimination during the admissions. No importance is given to extracurricular activities and sports activities by the management of the college. There is not even a single ground fit enough to practice or play any sport in the college campus. A TT table and 2 carrom boards are available for almost 1000 students which are open only after college hours. The students take it upon themselves to participate in university sports, they practice outside college and have to spend their own money to register and obtain equipments and travel to the competitions. We have students from different parts of India and there is no bias shown by the students or the Professors based on gender, religion, race or ethnicity. The lab facilities are pretty good and the technicians are really helpful. Students bound together really well over the course irrespective of race, ethnicity, religion and nobody is felt left out.

Hostel Facilities

3

No, my house is commutable distance from the college. The hostel is located right next to the college but 4km from the hospital so the college provides a bus facility. The hostel room is sharing, 3 occupants per hostel room. A room contains a fan a table, chair, wardrobe and a cot for each occupant. A oven and an induction stove is available per floor. Separate hostels for boys and girls.

Alumni/Alumna

The alumni association is non existent. The senior students are really helpful though, especially in the hostel. They help the juniors in everything from academics to sports. They really gel well together. They are especially helpful during the exams as their experience is really useful.

Admission

I have always wanted to be a doctor since I can remember. I've always been interested in this particularly field and wanted to treat patients. The average pay for a doctor is really good when compared to other jobs in our Country. The entry level salary is quite good compared to other jobs ans the job security is also pretty good. The candidates should have passed the two years PUC examination conducted by the Pre-University Education Board The Candidates should have secured not less than 50% of the total marks in Science subjects taken altogether at the qualifying examination and CET/COMED-K. The Candidate should have completed seventeen years of age as on 31st December of the year of admission.

Faculty

3.5

All the faculty in our college are required to complete a post graduate degree in their respective field to be eligible. Some of the Professors have obtained additional degrees in their respective fields. Only doctors and those with a post graduate degree are allowed to teach in the medical college. The average number of lecturers is 7/8 per subject.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I chose this course as I grew up in a family of doctors and it was always my plan to pursue Mbbs. The faculty I would say like every college has the great ones and the not-so-great ones. The faculty: student ratio is high, but it all comes down to the quality of teaching. And which is okay as compared to govt. Colleges. Final Exams and at the end of each year, with question paper being set by Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences. It is considered a very difficult exam to pass among medical universities in India. And 3 internal exams are conducted every year by the college itself.
