Remarks

The University/College management is really student friendly and they are always aware to the student's need owing to the placement co ordinators, Dean and the faculties.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

The Course curriculum in M. Sc. Statistics is relevant and updated more than any other University in India. It is job oriented as well as research driven. The course is divided into rigourous theoritical aspects as well as data driven practical experiences on real life data. A student of Statistics has 5 subjects each semester. 4 of them being main courses offering 4 credits and 1 being a foundation course which offers 3 credits which the student may choose based on the options provided. There are weekly exams called Minors throughout the semester and an end semester exam is called Major. There are 3 Minors for each subject and the best 2 of the 3 is added to the Major marks for the final result. The question papers are mostly conceptual. The students are encouraged to read various books from the vast collection in Indira Gandhi Memorial Library and CIS in campus which contains around 3- 5 lakh books. The course consists of various statistical concepts starting from Probability & Measure Theory, Linear Algebra, Mathematical Analysis, Linear Models & Regression Analysis, Time Series and Stochastics Process, Sampling Techniques to Statistical Inference, Big Data Analysis and Machine Learning in R providing the students with the necessary skillsets that the "hottest career opportunity in 21st century- Data Science" requires. Advance topics also include Bayesian Inference and Operation Research as well. The course offers a basic course in R Programming language in the 1st semester itself. There are weekly department specific seminars conducted for the students. Industry Experts, Reknowned Researchers from ISI, IIT, TIFR, IISc have interactive sessions with the students. These sessions are very effective in the sense that the students come in touch with the current industry situations as well as reasearch opportunities.

Placement Experience

3.5

The University has a dedicated placement cell and representatives from each Departments for coordinating placement that is internship and job oppotunities for students. During my tenure the placement cell has organised sessions conducted by industry experts from TCS and Delloite. Last year companies like Delloite, Synchroni, Bridgi2i, Core Compete, TCS and many other offered job oppotunities to the students of M. Sc. Statistics. Around 90% of the students got placement in their 3rd semester. The companies usually follow a 4 step procedure in recruiting i. e, Aptitude Tests, Group discussion and Versant test and lastly personal Interviews of the candidates. I personally have obtained a internship at Indian Institute of Statistics, Machine Learning Unit, Kolkata.

College Events

5

There are several competetions called Hackathons organised from the School of Computer and Information Sciences. The biggest cultural fest of the University is called The Sukoon and a various cultural fests owing to the diverseness of the campus like Bhasa celebrating the Bengali Languange every year. There are Management Festivals conducted by the School of Management Studies. There are weekly DJ nights in the Gurubaksh Singh maidan in the campus and movie nights are also organised as well. The festivals are open to all and attract a large participation.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The Admission fees in M. Sc Statistics course including caution money is 6510 INR for Indian Citizens. The payment of admission fees can be made via online methods such as UPI, credit/debit cards, netbanking as well as through challan as well only after verification of the required documents by University officials on the day of admission. There are no additional charges to secure admission.

Fees and Financial Aid

The University offers BBL Scholarship for economically weak students. The application forms are made available in the respective department offices after the notification which is made around the month of September-October. The student receives 24000 INR as a total through his tenure of Masters Degree. The eligibility depends on family income, graduation marks, place of permanent residence and other parameters.

Campus Life

4.5

The Gender Ratio in the University is very good. There are different cultural societies owing to the diverse student community in the University. There are regional ethinic groups like the Bengali, Malayali, Telegu, as well as religious groups such as sikhs, jains, muslims, hindus, buddhists and christians from all walks of life. True face of unity in diversity reflects in the Life in the University. There is also politics in the University life as well and it empowers the students' voice and co ordinates the necessities of the students with the administration. The students' union is a place of strength in the University and every year it is elected through votes from the students. In the this University intolerance, disrespect and discrimination is quite an alien concepts with regards to sexual orientation, ethnicity, gender of students. Freedom of expression and Human Rights are celebrated here.

Hostel Facilities

3.5

Yes, I had opted for a hostel room and I have secured a hostel room in the campus. All the hostel rooms in the University Campus are sharing. But one can even get a personal room by paying double accomodation charges. There is enough hostel accomodation for the students of the University. The rooms in northern hostels are older and the hostels in the southern campus are specious and very well maintained since they are new. There are nearby PGs also which provide food and accomodation for around monthly 10, 000 INR.

Alumni/Alumna

The alumnis are generally invited in the annual events of the University and there is a lack of alumni networking. The seniors in the campus are awfully helpful and without them and their advises passing courses would be a nightmare as well as getting a job. They are basically our mentors outside classrooms for studies as well as for building ourselves as professionals.

Admission

University of Hyderabad is a central university and a premier institute in India excelling in research and providing job opportunities. The Departments of Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Biological Sciences and Social Sciences are well known. It has been ranked as the 4th of the Top 10 Universities in the NIRF-2019 rankings conducted by MHRD of Govt. of India. It ranks 8th in the QS India-2020 rankings as well. The University also offers relevant, regularly updated and research and job oriented courses. Under normal circumstances, the University conducts its All India Entrance Test in the month of May. After the release of answer keys in their official website, they publish the admission list around the first week of July based on the marks of the entrance test. There are various eligibilty criteria for getting admission for example, to get admission in M. Sc. Statistics one has to have at least 60% marks in General Graduation or 55% in Statistics or Mathematics if it is a Graduation with Honours in Statistics or Mathematics.

Faculty

4

The student faculty ratio in the University and in the Department is the best in the country as well. The students are provided with around 60 lectures on per subject. All the permanent faculties are highly qualified and each have Doctoral Degrees. There are International Awardees and Reknowned Researchers on Subject. The faculties as well as the Dean of the School of Mathematics and Statistics are very approachable in providing clarity on the subject and career as well.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The curriculum of the biotechnology course includes all the relevant topics needed to gain information about the subject. The curriculum also includes currently developing topics of interest which may gain popularity in the future (like bioinformatics). It thoroughly prepares us for real world applications as we gain exposure to various fields of interest in the subject and get a hands-on training in the subject. Ab area i would like to suggest for improvement is to alot equal no. Of periods to different papers in the subject as each topic has its own value in the academic and career purpose. The internals are conducted every month within a duration of 1 hour for each paper. there are currently 4 internals for our batch, each of 10 marks. The externals or the end semester exams are conducted at the end of the semester approx 6 months, which are of 50 marks. 10 marks is alloted for attendance, bringing the total to 1000.

Course Curriculum Overview:

M.Sc is a Research-based degree course that helps students choose a career path. It is a popular two-year full-time course which is done after B.Sc. I like organic chemistry and wanted to do research on it that's why I choose M.Sc(Organic Chemistry) after UG. coming to the faculty of Sardar Patel college they are awesome and well qualified. Our lecturers mostly want research analysis because it is very good. They use student-centred teaching methods which focus on issues of students. There are two semesters every year 4 months apart before this pre-final exam is conducted in the college which helps improve knowledge.
