Which is better, K J Somaiya or SK Somaiya?
K.J. Somaiya vs S.K. Somaiya — two institutions from the same Somaiya Vidyavihar University trust, but VERY different in what they offer.
K.J. Somaiya College of Engineering / K.J. Somaiya Institute of Management:
- K.J. Somaiya = Kumarpal J. Somaiya group — the flagship institutions under Somaiya Vidyavihar University (SVU), Vidyavihar, Mumbai.
- K.J. Somaiya Institute of Management: One of Mumbai's top MBA programs. NAAC A+. Average placement ~14-18 LPA (MBA). Competes with SPJIMR and NMIMS for top 5 B-schools in Mumbai.
- K.J. Somaiya College of Engineering: Strong BTech program, especially CSE and IT. Good placement outcomes for private college (avg ~7-9 LPA CSE).
S.K. Somaiya College:
- S.K. Somaiya = Sanatrao Kesrimal Somaiya — a different college under the same Somaiya trust, focused on B.Com, BMS, BBI, B.Sc.
- Affiliated to Mumbai University. Degree says "Mumbai University."
- Known primarily for commerce — particularly B.Com and BMS programs. Competitive within affiliated Mumbai University colleges for commerce.
Which to choose:
- For Engineering or MBA: K.J. Somaiya (SVU) — significantly more prestigious.
- For Commerce (B.Com/BMS): S.K. Somaiya is a solid Mumbai University affiliated college for commerce streams.
These are connected by name/trust but serve different educational segments entirely. Don't confuse them.

KJ Somaiya is better than SK Somaiya. It ranks higher and is more reputed among students. If you have good grades, you should choose KJ Somaiya without thinking any further. KJ Somaiya has a great student crowd. So, the peer-to-peer learning opportunities are good.
The institute has a good placement record as well. KJ Somaiya placements 2022 had an average CTC of INR 10.9 LPA.

K J Somaiya is a reputed institution offering super-specialized programs including International Business (IB), Retail Management (RM), and Marketing Communication.
If you are enrolling for Marketing, then you can sit for placements for every company visiting the campus offering roles in the marketing sector. One of the biggest advantages is that even if you are opting for a core marketing role, you can still go and work in a media company.
K J Somaiya has witnessed participation from various companies and different sectors. The institute has maintained great placement records and an affordable fee structure.

When talking about which among KJ Somaiya and SK Somaiya is better as a junior college, it clearly becomes dependent on the meaning of “better.”
If you want good students spread across in your class, then you should probably go for KJ Somaiya, because the cut-off of the college is considered quite higher than SK. The reason behind this can be because students think that KJ is better than the former, or can also be unaware of the other junior college, namely, Somaiya.
However, if you anyhow are not hesitant about your choices, then choosing SK will not put you in an unjust circumstance, because with the name of KJ Somaiya, comes a responsibility of holding in place your attendance, which simultaneously is not very necessary while talking about SK.
As my friend responds, except only for Computer Science, he had not sat for any specific lecture in his 12th but that surprisingly never invited trouble in his name. Whereas, that in terms of KJ does not approve because they have a defaulters list.

Although, in any case, the teaching of the junior college doesn’t matter since every student is seen to join coaching classes for the same. But, in terms of the bifocal faculty of Computer Science and Electronics altogether, SK is considered better than KJ. But in both the colleges, the practicals are conducted well.
The suggestion to join SK rather than Kj is only because students require the time to self-study, which becomes impossible while they have to attend almost all the lectures in college.
But talking about the degree college, the factor attendance only comes into play when students have an average attendance rate lower than even 75%. It is kept as a keypoint in every college you visit. Thus, there is no worthwhile reason to go for SK, over KJ. The students of KJ are better than what you are supposed to find in SK.
As long as you have enough percentage to enroll in KJ for higher studies, the suggestion is mainly to go for it without further delay.
