Is CMC Ludhiana a better option for a MBBS??

CMC Ludhiana has a rich history of 150 years and is known for its top-notch facilities and modern technology. The faculty is skilled and committed, making it a great place to study. It serves patients from Punjab and nearby regions like Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir. Students come from all over India. Plus, it also has a highly regarded Dental and Nursing college.

CMC Ludhiana ranks among the top private medical colleges in the country. I'm in my final year of MBBS here, so I'll break down my thoughts into different parts for you.

Teaching and Lectures: In my experience, the quality of lectures tends to drop as you move from the first year to the final year, though there are some exceptions. During my first year, I found every class engaging, with teachers really encouraging us to study more. They took the time to clarify doubts during tutorials and discussions, and we had regular tests weekly or monthly, which helped me stay focused during the first two years. By the third year, when clinical subjects start, professors are often occupied with patients, so sometimes a postgraduate resident takes the class. However, the sessions led by professors are usually very valuable. In the last two years, written tests become less frequent, and there isn't as much personal attention, which I think helps us become more independent.

Teaching and Clinical Postings: We started going to clinics from the second year. Initially, it's more about theory, as second-year students are just starting to learn about medicine or obstetrics. By the third year, you really start to get the hang of it. The professors are very patient and eager to teach. We get to handle a significant number of patients and learn both outpatient and inpatient care across different departments. It's often said that CMC graduates have top-notch clinical skills because of the strong focus on them, particularly in the final year.

Student-Teacher Relationship: This is a unique and wonderful aspect of our college. We have foster families that link us with faculty and fellow students, both juniors and seniors. Teachers are supportive, helping us through personal issues and offering guidance whenever needed. The environment is open, with approachable faculty, which was a pleasant surprise for me when I first joined.

Infrastructure: This is an area that needs work. While some hospital departments are well-equipped, our classrooms could be better. Some of the new hostel rooms are quite nice. The institute has recently subscribed to UpToDate and Clinical Key for all students, which are very helpful resources.

Extracurricular Activities: These aren't as strong as in some other colleges, but we do have an annual musical, entirely created by MBBS students, from the script to the music. The administration is very supportive of students wanting to present research at conferences or participate in academic exchanges through groups like AMSA-India.

Research: One of the greatest things about CMC is the chance for undergraduates to get involved in meaningful research projects, either through an STS under ICMR or independently. It's all about finding what you're passionate about and then finding the right mentor to guide you.

I'm currently a third-year student at CMC Ludhiana, so I'll share my thoughts on it based on my experience:

• The teaching quality is decent, not the best out there but still pretty good. The professors care about how you're doing, and they keep track of your progress. They'll encourage you or give you a hard time if needed.
• The classroom infrastructure isn't great, honestly. It's not something you'd be impressed with.
• There's a good mix of co-curricular and extracurricular activities. They even organize a musical theater annually. In 2017, they did Aladdin, and last year it was the Lion King.
• The fees are quite high. It starts at around 6 lakhs for the first year and goes up each year. The hostels aren't too impressive either.

To sum it up, if you're focused on studying hard and becoming a great doctor, then this could be a good fit. But if you're looking to have a fun college life, you might want to consider other options. You'll be spending at least five and a half years here, so think it over carefully before making a decision.
