IIMC PhD Admission 2026

New Delhi, January 7, 2026: The Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) has launched its Ph.D. programme in Mass Communication and Journalism for the 2025-26 academic session. The institute has invited applications for both full-time and part-time doctoral research courses.

IIMC’s PhD in Mass Communication & Journalism is aimed at fostering research in media, communication, digital media, strategic communication, journalism studies, and related areas. The programme will be offered in full-time and part-time modes.

The application fee is ₹2,500 for General category candidates, while applicants belonging to OBC, SC, ST, EWS, and PwD categories need to pay ₹1,500. For international applicants, the application fee is USD 100. The fee must be paid online through the official IIMC admission portal, and applications submitted without successful fee payment will not be considered for admission.

IIMC PhD Admission 2026 Eligibility Criteria

Full-Time PhD:

  • Must hold a Master’s degree in Journalism, Mass Communication (or an allied discipline) with minimum 55% marks, or
  • A four-year Bachelor’s degree with research component with at least 75% marks.
  • Must have a valid UGC-NET qualification in Mass Communication & Journalism.

Part-Time PhD:

  • Same educational criteria as full-time.
  • Must be employed with at least 3 years of professional experience.
  • Must provide a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the employer.
  • If not UGC-NET qualified, the candidate must take an entrance exam

IIMC PhD Admission 2026 Selection Process

Full-Time:

  • No written entrance test if the applicant has valid UGC-NET.
  • Shortlisted candidates are called for a personal interview.
  • Final merit is based on:

    • UGC-NET percentile or equivalent score (70%)
    • Interview performance (30%)

Part-Time:

  • If not NET qualified, candidates must sit for a PhD entrance exam conducted by IIMC.
  • Those who qualify for the exam are invited for an interview.
  • Merit list and admission based on exam score and interview performance.
