UIE BE (IT) FAQs
Ques. What is the difference between BE (IT) and B.Tech. (CSE) at Chandigarh University, and which one should I choose?
Ans. BE (IT) and B.Tech. (CSE) are both 4-year engineering programmes, but they differ in focus. BE (IT) emphasises information systems, networking, database management, IT infrastructure, and enterprise applications, while B.Tech. (CSE) is more focused on core computer science concepts like algorithms, programming, and software development. If you are interested in IT management, networking, and enterprise systems, BE (IT) is a better fit. Both programmes have strong placement records at CU, and the fee structure is similar.
Ques. Is CUCET mandatory for admission to BE (IT) at Chandigarh University, or can I apply with JEE Main score?
Ans. Both CUCET and JEE Main scores are accepted for admission to BE (IT) at CU. CUCET is CU's own entrance-cum-scholarship test, and appearing for it is the primary route. However, candidates with a valid JEE Main score can also apply directly and are eligible for merit-based scholarships based on their All India Rank. Candidates who have not appeared for JEE Main are strongly advised to register for CUCET, as it also determines scholarship eligibility.
Ques. What are the industry-collaborated labs available for BE (IT) students at UIE, CU?
Ans. BE (IT) students at UIE, CU have access to several industry-collaborated labs including the Microsoft Innovation Center (for Microsoft technologies), Microsoft Global Technical Support Center (GTSC) (for enterprise-level support systems), IBM Software Lab for Emerging Technologies (for IBM-aligned software solutions), Oracle Academy Lab (for database management and enterprise applications), Unisys Innovation Labs, and EMC2 Academic Alliance (for data storage and cloud infrastructure). These labs provide hands-on exposure to real-world tools and technologies used by top global companies.
Ques. What is the placement scenario for BE (IT) students at Chandigarh University?
Ans. BE (IT) students at CU have been placed in top companies including Amazon, Microsoft, IBM, Google, Dell, American Express, TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Cognizant, Accenture, Tech Mahindra, and HCL. The highest packages offered to engineering students at CU have reached 61.9 LPA (Atlassian), 54.75 LPA (Palo Alto Networks), and 52.11 LPA. However, these are the highest packages across all engineering programmes; IT-specific average packages are not separately disclosed. Students are advised to check the latest placement data on the official CU placements page.
Ques. What is the hostel fee at Chandigarh University, and is it mandatory for BE (IT) students?
Ans. Hostel accommodation at CU is optional and not mandatory. The hostel fees range from Rs. 1,20,000 per year (5-seater Non-AC) to Rs. 2,20,000 per year (1-seater AC), inclusive of accommodation and meals. The fees are increased by Rs. 2,000 per annum on account of food inflation. Students who wish to stay on campus must apply for hostel accommodation separately at the time of admission. Day scholars can commute from outside the campus.
Ques. Can I get 100% scholarship in BE (IT) at Chandigarh University, and what are the conditions to maintain it?
Ans. Yes, a 100% scholarship on the semester fee (Rs. 1,29,000 per semester) is available for students who score 90.01 or above in CUCET, or have a JEE Main AIR up to 25,000. To maintain this scholarship throughout the 4-year programme, students must maintain a minimum CGPA of 7.5 in each semester's regular exam, with no E, F, or I grades. If the scholarship is discontinued in one year due to not meeting the criteria, and the student meets the criteria in the following year, they can reapply but will be eligible for only 50% of the earlier sanctioned scholarship amount.
