PIM MBA FAQs
Ques. What exactly is MBA in Public Policy, and how is it different from a regular MBA or an MPP degree?
Ans. An MBA in Public Policy combines the business management curriculum with specialised subjects in governance, policy analysis, public administration, and social sector management. Unlike a regular MBA which focuses purely on corporate business, this specialisation prepares students for roles at the interface of government, business, and civil society. It is different from a standalone MPP (Master of Public Policy) degree in that it retains the full MBA framework — including finance, marketing, HR, and operations — while adding a policy lens. This makes graduates versatile: they can work in both the private sector (corporate affairs, CSR, government relations) and the public/social sector (NGOs, think tanks, PSUs, international development agencies).
Ques. What kind of career opportunities are available after completing MBA in Public Policy from PIM?
Ans. Graduates can pursue careers in a wide range of sectors. In the public sector, roles include Policy Analyst, Government Relations Manager, Public Affairs Consultant, and positions in PSUs and regulatory bodies. In the social sector, opportunities exist with NGOs, CSR divisions of large corporates, international development organisations (UN agencies, World Bank-affiliated bodies), and social enterprises. In the private sector, companies with large government-facing businesses (infrastructure, energy, telecom, pharma) actively hire MBA Public Policy graduates for regulatory affairs and government liaison roles. PIM's 2,200+ recruiter network and placement support through the Career Development Centre assist students in exploring these diverse pathways.
Ques. Is MBA in Public Policy a good choice for someone with a background in arts, political science, or social work?
Ans. Yes, MBA in Public Policy is particularly well-suited for students from arts, political science, sociology, social work, or law backgrounds who want to add a management dimension to their profile. The eligibility criteria require any 3-year UG degree with 50% marks, so students from non-commerce and non-science streams are fully eligible. In fact, students with prior exposure to governance, social issues, or public administration tend to find the policy-specific subjects more intuitive. The MBA component then adds the business and management skills that make such students more competitive in both the public and private sectors.
Ques. Does PIM have any specific industry connections or guest faculty for the Public Policy specialisation?
Ans. Parul University regularly hosts prominent speakers and global leaders on campus, including former Prime Ministers, Supreme Court judges, and senior government officials, through its PUTalks and IIMUN Global Perspective Series. These interactions provide MBA Public Policy students with direct exposure to real-world governance and policy thinking. The university's 120+ global university tie-ups and 100+ international visiting professors also bring a global perspective on public policy and governance. While there is no dedicated industry-embedded programme specifically for Public Policy (unlike the SAP/KPMG tie-ups for Finance and HR), the broader university ecosystem provides meaningful exposure.
Ques. What is the total cost of the MBA in Public Policy at PIM, and are there scholarships available?
Ans. The total tuition and university fee for the 2-year programme is Rs. 4,50,000 (Rs. 2,25,000 per year), payable in two annual instalments. Hostel fees are additional and optional, ranging from Rs. 79,000 to Rs. 1,70,000 per year for girls and Rs. 79,000 to Rs. 3,50,000 per year for boys. Merit-based scholarships are available based on UG percentage: Rs. 40,000/year for 90%+, Rs. 30,000/year for 80-89.99%, Rs. 20,000/year for 70-79.99%, and Rs. 10,000/year for 60-69.99%. Students from North East states, J&K, and Himachal Pradesh may also be eligible for domicile-based scholarships. Government scholarships such as NSP (PM-USP Yojana) offering Rs. 82,000/year are also applicable for eligible students.
Ques. Is MBA in Public Policy from Parul University recognised, and will it be valued by government or international organisations?
Ans. Yes, Parul University is NAAC A++ accredited and the MBA programme is AICTE-approved, making the degree fully recognised by the government and accepted by employers. The university is ranked in the top 150 by NIRF. For roles in government advisory, PSUs, or international development organisations, the AICTE approval and university accreditation are the primary requirements, both of which PIM satisfies. For international organisations like UN agencies or World Bank-affiliated bodies, the MBA degree combined with relevant internship experience and a strong academic record is typically what matters. Students are advised to supplement their degree with relevant internships in government departments, NGOs, or policy research organisations during the programme to strengthen their profile for such roles.
