TCET MCA FAQs
Ques. Is TCET a good college for MCA, given that the programme was only launched in AY 2025-26?
Ans. While TCET's MCA programme is new (launched AY 2025-26), it is backed by TCET's 25+ years of engineering education experience, established infrastructure, and strong industry connections including Accenture, TATA Technologies, CISCO, and INTEL. The college is NAAC "A" grade accredited and has a dedicated placement cell with a track record of placing students in top IT companies. The 6-month industry internship in the final semester is a significant advantage. Students should note that since the programme is new, there is no MCA-specific placement data yet; however, the overall college placement ecosystem is strong and MCA graduates can leverage the same industry network as engineering graduates.
Ques. What is the total fee for MCA at TCET, and how does it compare to other MCA colleges in Mumbai?
Ans. The total fee for MCA at TCET is Rs. 1,80,000 for 2 years (Rs. 90,000 per year as per FRA-approved adhoc fee for AY 2025-26), which is among the more affordable options for a private AICTE-approved MCA programme in Mumbai. The fee for AY 2026-27 is subject to revision by FRA, Maharashtra. Compared to other private MCA colleges in Mumbai, TCET's fee is competitive given the quality of infrastructure and industry exposure offered. Government MCA colleges in Maharashtra have lower fees, but TCET offers better facilities and placement support.
Ques. Is the MAH MCA CET 2026 already over, and can I still apply for MCA at TCET for AY 2026-27?
Ans. Yes, the MAH MCA CET 2026 was conducted on March 30, 2026. If you have already appeared for the exam, you can participate in the CAP rounds (expected July-August 2026) for seat allotment at TCET. If you missed the MAH MCA CET 2026, you may still be able to apply for Institute Level Quota (ILQ) seats directly through TCET's admission portal (admission.tcetmumbai.in), subject to seat availability and eligibility. It is advisable to contact TCET's admissions office directly for the latest information on ILQ seat availability for AY 2026-27.
Ques. What is the scope of MCA from TCET, and what kind of jobs can I get after completing the programme?
Ans. MCA graduates from TCET are prepared for roles such as Software Developer, Full Stack Developer, Data Scientist, AI and ML Engineer, Cybersecurity Specialist, Cloud Engineer, DevOps Engineer, Database Administrator, System Analyst, and IT Project Manager. The 6-month industry internship in the final semester provides real-world experience and often leads to pre-placement offers. TCET's placement cell actively supports MCA students for campus placements, and graduates can leverage the same industry network as engineering graduates. For those interested in higher studies, MCA from a reputed institution like TCET is a strong foundation for PhD programmes or international MS programmes.
Ques. Can BCA graduates from TCET directly get admission to the second year of MCA at TCET?
Ans. Yes, BCA graduates who have completed a 4-year BCA programme are eligible for Direct Second Year (Lateral Entry) admission to MCA as per DTE Maharashtra norms. This means they can complete MCA in just 1 year instead of 2 years. However, this lateral entry is subject to seat availability in the second year and is conducted through the DTE Maharashtra CAP process. Students who have completed a 3-year BCA are not eligible for lateral entry and must apply for first-year MCA admission through MAH MCA CET. TCET's own BCA graduates (4-year programme) can thus seamlessly continue to MCA at the same campus.
Ques. What is the difference between MCA and ME/MTech in Computer Engineering for a BCA or BSc graduate?
Ans. MCA is a postgraduate programme specifically designed for graduates from any stream (BCA, BSc, BCom, BA, BE, BTech) who want to build a career in software development and IT. It is more application-oriented and industry-focused. ME/MTech in Computer Engineering, on the other hand, is a research and technology-oriented programme primarily designed for BE/BTech graduates and requires a GATE score for admission to government-funded institutions. For BCA or BSc graduates, MCA is the natural and most accessible pathway to advanced IT careers. MCA from TCET also opens doors to PhD programmes, making it a versatile choice for both industry and academia.
