TCET BE IT FAQs
Ques. What is the difference between CAP seats and Institute Level Quota (ILQ) seats for BE IT at TCET, and which is better?
Ans. CAP seats (approximately 80% of total intake) are filled through the Centralised Admission Process based on MHT CET/JEE Main merit, and the fee is Rs. 1,54,500 per year (total Rs. 6,18,000 for 4 years). Institute Level Quota (ILQ) seats (approximately 20%) are filled directly by TCET and carry a significantly higher fee of Rs. 4,63,500 per year (total Rs. 18,54,000 for 4 years). The academic programme, faculty, and facilities are identical for both categories. CAP seats are strongly preferred for cost reasons; ILQ seats are an option for students who miss the CAP merit cutoff but still wish to join TCET.
Ques. Is BE IT at TCET a good choice compared to BE Computer Engineering at the same college?
Ans. Both BE IT and BE Computer Engineering at TCET are strong programmes with similar infrastructure, faculty quality, and placement outcomes. IT has a slightly broader focus covering networking, cloud, web technologies, and enterprise systems, while Computer Engineering is more hardware and systems-oriented. Both branches have 240 seats and are NBA accredited. Placement-wise, both branches attract similar companies including Accenture, TCS, Infosys, and Wipro. The choice should be based on your interest: if you prefer software, web, and enterprise IT, choose IT; if you prefer systems programming, OS, and hardware, choose Computer Engineering.
Ques. What is the MHT CET 2026 cutoff expected for BE IT at TCET?
Ans. TCET's BE IT is one of the most competitive branches in Mumbai, and the MHT CET percentile cutoff for the general category (open merit) has historically been in the range of 95-98 percentile for CAP seats. Reserved category cutoffs are lower. Since cutoffs vary each year based on the number of applicants and seat availability, students are advised to check the official DTE Maharashtra CAP merit lists from previous years for reference. Appearing for JEE Main in addition to MHT CET improves your chances as All India candidates with JEE Main scores get preference.
Ques. What are the placement opportunities for BE IT graduates from TCET?
Ans. TCET's IT department has strong placement support with companies like JP Morgan, Accenture, Oracle, Infosys, Tech Mahindra, TCS, Wipro, and Cognizant visiting the campus. The overall college placement rate is approximately 60-70% with an average package of 4-5 LPA and the highest package reaching 17-18 LPA. IT and Computer Engineering branches consistently have higher placement rates than other branches. Graduates typically join as Software Engineers, System Engineers, Web Developers, or Junior Programmers. Students are also encouraged to pursue higher studies (ME/MTech, MBA) or competitive exams like GATE for PSU and research opportunities.
Ques. Does TCET offer any lateral entry (Direct Second Year) admission for BE IT?
Ans. Yes, TCET offers Direct Second Year (DSY) lateral entry admission to BE IT for candidates who have completed a 3-year Diploma in Engineering and Technology (or equivalent) with at least 45% marks (40% for reserved categories). Lateral entry admissions are also conducted through the DTE Maharashtra CAP process. Diploma holders in IT, Computer Engineering, or related branches are eligible. The lateral entry intake is separate from the first-year intake and is typically a smaller number of seats. Candidates should check the DTE Maharashtra CAP brochure for the exact lateral entry eligibility and seat matrix each year.
Ques. What higher study options are available after BE IT from TCET, and does TCET offer postgraduate programmes in IT?
Ans. After completing BE IT from TCET, graduates can pursue ME/MTech in Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or related specialisations for advanced technical roles. TCET itself offers ME in Information Technology (18 seats, established 2010-11), so graduates can continue their postgraduate studies at the same campus. Other popular options include MBA (for management roles), MCA (for software development), and GATE-based admissions to IITs and NITs. For those interested in research, TCET also offers a PhD in Information Technology (20 seats). Internationally, MS programmes in the USA, Canada, and Europe are popular choices for TCET IT graduates.
