JSSMCH MD FAQs

Ques. What NEET PG score is needed for JSSMCH Mysore MD?

Ans. JSSMCH is a private deemed university medical college in Mysore with multiple admission routes. For AIQ seats (15%), a high NEET PG merit rank is required as these are competitive. Karnataka KEA state counselling seats have cutoffs based on Karnataka-specific NEET PG rank and category. Management quota seats at private deemed medical colleges typically close at lower NEET PG scores relative to government college seats but are subject to a higher management quota fee structure, which may differ from the published government quota fee. Contact JSSMCH admissions for the exact management quota fee before applying through institutional rounds.

Ques. How is admission to JSSMCH MD different from government medical colleges?

Ans. Unlike government medical colleges where 50% seats go through AIQ and 50% through state quota, JSSMCH as a private deemed university has three admission routes: MCC AIQ (15% of seats), Karnataka state counselling through KEA, and institutional management quota counselling conducted by the college. Management quota seats at deemed universities allow direct application through the college but typically carry a different fee structure. Candidates who do not secure seats through AIQ or KEA counselling can apply to JSSMCH management quota directly, subject to minimum NEET PG eligibility and seat availability.

Ques. Is MD Geriatric Medicine at JSSMCH a good specialisation choice?

Ans. MD Geriatric Medicine is a growing specialisation in India with an increasing geriatric population creating demand for specialist physicians. JSSMCH Mysore is among the few medical colleges offering postgraduate Geriatric Medicine. Graduates work in hospital geriatric units, government elder care programmes, and academic medicine. The specialisation typically attracts lower NEET PG cutoffs than clinical specialisations like General Medicine or Radiodiagnosis, making it accessible. However, confirm seat availability from the JSSMCH admissions office and verify whether seats are listed under MCC AIQ or KEA counselling in the current year.

Ques. What is the stipend for MD residents at JSS Medical College Mysore?

Ans. JSSMCH as a private deemed university institution provides a monthly stipend to MD residents, though the amount is set by institutional policy rather than government orders. Private deemed medical college stipends in Karnataka have historically ranged from ₹30,000 to ₹60,000 per month depending on the year of residency and institutional policy. The exact current stipend for JSSMCH MD residents should be confirmed from the college admissions or postgraduate office, as private institution stipends may differ from state government medical college stipend notifications.

Ques. Does JSSMCH Mysore rank well among Karnataka medical colleges for MD programmes?

Ans. JSS Academy of Higher Education & Research is a recognised deemed university in Karnataka with an established medical faculty in Mysore. JSSMCH offers a broad range of 18 MD specialisations including niche areas like Geriatric Medicine and Hospital Administration. For candidates who do not secure seats at NIMHANS, St John’s, or Manipal for specific specialisations, JSSMCH is a frequently considered private medical college option in Karnataka. Its Mysore location provides access to a substantial patient catchment area through its attached hospital.

Ques. Is the ₹1,50,000 to ₹2,00,000 fee the full amount for JSSMCH MD or does management quota carry a different fee?

Ans. The ₹1,50,000 to ₹2,00,000 fee reflects the fee structure for seats admitted through MCC AIQ and Karnataka KEA counselling (government/state quota seats). Management quota seats at private deemed medical colleges typically carry a higher institutional fee as per the fee committee approved by the Karnataka state fee regulatory committee. Candidates applying through JSSMCH management quota counselling should request the current year’s management quota fee structure directly from the JSSMCH admissions office to make an informed comparison before accepting a management quota seat.
