University of Manitoba Admission 2026
The University of Manitoba uses two admission pathways: Direct Entry and Advanced Entry.
- If you are applying straight after Class 12 in India, you are considered a Direct Entry applicant.
- If you completed 24 or more credit hours at a university/college, you become an Advanced Entry applicant, not a first-year/direct-entry applicant.
24 Credit Hours: A credit hour is basically a way Canadian universities count courses.
At the University of Manitoba:
- Most courses = 3 credit hours.
- 24 credit hours ≈ , 8 courses completed.
- This is roughly equal to one full year of university study in Canada.
| Indian Education Background | Likely UM Category |
|---|---|
| Class 12 only | Direct Entry |
| 1 semester of BTech/BCom/BA in India | Usually Direct Entry (depends on credits) |
| 1 full year of university (8+ courses approx.) | Usually Advanced Entry |
| Diploma + college coursework | Depends on transferable credits |
What is University 1 (U1) and why does it matter?
Many students don’t enter their final faculty immediately. They start in University 1, which acts like a flexible first year. Students usually complete 24–30 credit hours there before moving into faculties like science, arts, or other programs.
For most Indian students: Class 12 → Apply → Enter Direct Entry / University 1 or chosen faculty → Complete first-year courses (24–30 credits) → Move into your major/faculty.

- Excellent student support resources from mental health to build life in Canada and many more
- Library is huge and you can borrow upto 100 books, that's awesome
- Beautiful campus, Campus is spread across Southern Winnipeg and is huge, it has excellent network of underground tunnels, which is boon during -30 C winter.
Dislikes
- There is nothing which I didn't like about university if I be honest, they have thought about everything student might need and have already provided it, the only thing I didn't like truly sometimes is course availability but there are limited number of professors teaching so I can understand, hence overall I do not have anything major which I didn't like about my university.
Scholarship
- They give entry scholarships named IGSES based on your previous education, and if you maintain GPA during MBA then you'll get IGSS scholarship in second year, there is no CAP on bow many students gets it as it's based on one's GPA, I received $11,000 in scholarship for my 2 years of MBA program, most of my classmates received similar amount but I'm not sure if they have changed the rules so please confirm it with university,

- I like how they have vast number of programs including the thesis based. Department of Immunology and medical genetics are very challenging for someone without any research experience but I really appreciate for the people who can understand your status and train based on your needs.
Dislikes
- There are few supervisors who are very rude and toxic so it all depends on whom you select and how you maintain a healthy relationship with your supervisor. There are plenty of workshops to increase your skills, maintaining stress, balancing work and life and so on for our mental health.

- It's one of the few universities that provide one year course in this field.
- Good campus, knowledgeable and passionate staff and availability of all the resources one might need as an international student. The variety of offered courses is also good. One can choose from a 1 year course to a full bachelor's degree program.
Dislikes
- First of all it's far from the downtown of Winnipeg to have to take public transit to commute. Moreover the courses can be more practical as for now a few courses are just theoretical. Although some of the instructors do put efforts individually, the same is not true for all the courses.
Overview
Its a mixed experience. Some things are good like the campus and the instructors. But it's only available for international students, which makes it seem like extended education section of University of Manitoba exists just to make money for the university in exchange for post graduate work permit to the students. Not a loss for students but it's a fact.

After getting admissions from various universities and getting instated in the home army I decided to pursue my degree from this specific University, mainly because of the outstanding faculty in my relevant field as well as the quality of life Canada had to offer.

No, I haven't applied for the scholarship.
Overview
There were more opportunities at this university when it comes to resources, better gym, more people and definitely better socials. Had a large variety of programs including the program I did which the previous university didn't have. Admission Process Easy, application fees roughly $4500, didn't apply to other ones.
