- Awesome Location and On Campus Greenery
Dislikes
- Fees a bit higher for International students, I guess thats the problem with most of the universities and I would suggest some capping on the same
- Less Vegetarian options in Campus premises
- They charge you a nominal amount if you request them official transcripts which in my opinion shouldn’t be there.
Campus Life
-
Its a single location campus. Every course / program has their own building in the same campus only.
-
Facility Available – Library,Sports ground,Medical,Movie theatre,Multiple restaurants,Indoor and outdoor seating
-
There are multiple events organised each year, catering to different communities but yes the most popular are in the events based on India/indian theme.
Fees
-
For me it is mostly the tuition fees. Its charged per term. There could be other fees such as admin fees, registration fees etc.
-
Breakup of expenses-
Tuition fees - 2600CAD (per term)
Monthly Rent - 800 cad per month
Groceries- 300 cad per month

Likes
- Co-op and career program support
- Many clubs and extracurricular activities available
- Student union is extremely supportive and advocates for students
Dislikes
- An athletic fee is required but limited athletic facilities that are available without additional fees on top of the mandatory one.
- Poor planning for unexpected emergencies or adverse weather events (students were injured because of this last year)
- limited parking available for $$$$
Overview
I already lived in Victoria, so it was an option that is close to home. I also received a GPA-based entrance scholarship of $3000, which motivated me to continue at UVic. I like the student engagement and different options for clubs/activities/events that are available, and the campus is quite lovely, especially in the sun. We are also very close to beaches and water, which is great. The psychology program is great and has lots of options such as co-op and honours to elevate your degree. Many of the profs that I’ve had are absolutely incredible. I definitely haven’t had the busy, extra-curricular-filled experience that some students may have, but I have benefited from the support and resources provided by Uvic numerous times. I have learned a lot and generally enjoyed my classes and experience so far.
Campus Life
So many clubs and course unions available, and many extracurriculars of various kinds, including, but not limited to, sporting events. Uvic is a research centred university, so there is a lot of support available in this regard. Wifi available all over campus, and many, many different study locations, both inside and outside.
Likes
- The University focusses a lot on research proposal, mostly accepts those which are socially leaning.
- Encouragement both in terms of research and financial aid is provided to students. Apart from this students are automatically screened for scholarship which range from somewhere between 30%-100% of the tuition of the first year, without making any separate application.
- Even otherwise the tuition is extremely low as compared to other Universities in North America (ranging from 7000-15000 CAD) for all master's courses, except managerial and Engineering.
Dislikes
- The only flaw I can see is with regard to the admission process. The number of intakes are extremely low- for instance, only 2 students were accepted in the last admission cycle- out of more than 150 applications.
Overview
The overall experience has been amazing. As the class size is smaller, we were able to forge personal relationships with our faculty and others in the cohort. The class is more like a small family. I have been fortunate to have made great friends on the campus. I wish the placement and Career cells of the college were more active.
Campus Life
The campus life is truly amazing. The campus is spread over ridges, parks and protected gardens. One feels very close to the nature. The campus offers premium services of gymnasium, other sports at cheaper rates. Part of the yearly fee.
Overview
UVic is one of the most popular universities in Canada given it's great reputation and location. It's also one of the oldest universities in Canada. It offers three specializations under it's Bcom program i.e Service Management, entrepreneurship and International Management. Students can further advance into fields such as investment banking, human resources etc thus proving to be a very versatile program for students not sure what they wanna pick initially.
Overview
Close to home, friends and family and a great city and well respected school. Transferred to this school from another because it had a great reputation for teaching as well as community. Easy application process and average fees to apply. Went into this school after 1.5 years at a different university.
Fees
Tuition is generally around $550 per course or $650 per computer science or engineering courses along with $400 for medical and dental (unless you opt-out) and about $200 per semester in student fees and $80 per semester on a bus pass (required) as well as athletic fees and others. Usually, if you're in a full course load not with engineering it is around $6000 per year
Overview
Uvic is my hometown university which I have always planned to attend as a result of cheaper expenses while living at home. I also applied at the University of Alberta but then decided to stay home to keep living costs lower. While applying to the two combined schools I spent $200 on application fees.
Fees
I received a scholarship from the school for my grades. The fee of my program is around 6,000 per year, however, it had not been necessary for me to take out any loans. 1st year I received an entrance scholarship of $2,000 and have applied for many other scholarships which I have not heard back from.
Overview
It had the program I wanted, affordable, and close to home. I felt that it was a decent size and that it would be a good university to have on my CV. I find the campus to be very beautiful as well as the people very easy to collaborate with!
Fees
You pay tuition by end of the first day of your new semester. It is around three thousand dollars a semester but you get charged for random things like being a day late to hand in your tuition check and parking is awful. Very few classes have a materials charge.
Overview
I chose UVIC for its sociology program. I want to continue on to study healthcare management and I found this program to combine statistical and management based studies within its sociology degree.
Fees
The fee structure is average university price; additional charges support clubs and campus movements, and the brand new gym costs less than a regular gym, at $106 for 4 months.
Overview
I am from the Yukon and this school had a nice close location. The department also had a very good reputation. I also liked the course selection as compared to other universities that I was considering.
Fees
Tuition was due at the end of the first month of each semester. I find it less expensive than the tuition of other schools. We paid athletic fees etc. and also each co-op term you undertook cost you a fee.
Overview
The location, being on the Vancouver Island. The population is relatively small. The food options, many options for vegans/vegetarians on campus. The program, one of the only colleges to offer a program similar to pre-med in Canada.
Fees
The tuition is very low, being around $5000 CA per year. However, if you plan to live on campus, it can get pretty pricey, at around $12000 a year.
