DePaul University MBA Admission Requirements 2026
DePaul admits students for Fall, Winter, Spring, and Summer intakes throughout the year under rolling admissions. No single intake is "primary"; however Fall (September) is the largest cohort. Academic eligibility requires a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution with minimum 3.0 GPA (or equivalent for international transcripts).
| Requirement | Criteria | Notes for Indian Applicants |
|---|---|---|
| Bachelor’s Degree | Accredited 3-4 year degree; minimum 3.0 GPA | WES credential evaluation required (15-20 business days); B.Tech/B.S counts as equivalent. |
| Work Experience | None required (open to recent graduates) | Typical cohort has 2-5 years experience; no penalty for recent graduates. |
| GMAT/GRE | Optional (test-optional admission) | Typical submitters score 550-650 GMAT; no minimum enforced. Strong GPA (3.5+) offsets waived test. |
| English Proficiency | TOEFL 80 iBT, IELTS 6.5, or Duolingo 115 | TOEFL 80 is moderate; many Indian students clear it on first attempt. IELTS 6.5 typical threshold across US MBAs. |
English Language Proficiency Block
Non-native English speakers must prove proficiency through one of these tests:
- TOEFL iBT: minimum 80 overall; no section below 17.
- IELTS: minimum 6.5 overall; no band below 6.0.
- Duolingo English Test: minimum 115 overall score.
- PTE: minimum 53 overall; Cambridge English (C1 or higher) also accepted.
Tip for Indian students: A 3.5+ GPA + IELTS 6.5 is often enough for admission without GMAT. Many Indian applicants prepare IELTS in 4-6 weeks; start 6 months before your target intake to leave buffer time for WES evaluation and visa processing.
DePaul’s overall acceptance rate is 74%, reflecting balanced selectivity. The MBA cohort is typically 42-50% international and 20-25% Indian-origin. Indian applicants with 3.2+ GPA and IELTS 6.5 have realistic odds of admission within 3-4 weeks of application.

DePaul University MBA Scholarships and Financial Aid 2026
DePaul offers merit scholarships and graduate assistantships to MBA students. Merit awards of US$5,000-20,000 are based on academic credentials (GPA, test scores if submitted) and are renewable annually. Graduate assistantships provide US$7,500 stipend for 10 hours/week on-campus work.
A merit scholarship of US$10,000/year (typical mid-range award) offsets 22% of tuition, reducing annual cost to US$25,760 (INR 24.56 Lakhs). An assistantship of US$7,500 plus scholarship of US$10,000 totals US$17,500 cost offset, bringing annual net to US$18,260 (INR 17.40 Lakhs).
Scholarship applications are rolling; applicants applying by 15 April for Fall intake and 1 September for Winter intake have highest merit consideration. International students are eligible for merit aid but not federal loans or grants.
Scholarship reality: US$10,000-15,000 merit scholarships are common for strong Indian applicants (3.5+ GPA, IELTS 6.5+). Budget conservatively: assume US$0 scholarship for planning, treat any award as cost reduction.

Take-home pay varies by state taxes and benefits. Illinois has no state income tax on wages, making Chicago net salary approximately 10-12% higher than coastal equivalents after federal tax. Use an online US tax calculator (e.g. paycalc.net) to estimate post-tax income based on your function and location.
ROI reality: A US$111,881 starting salary (average) minus US$44,700 tuition (15 months) = net gain of US$67,181 in year one alone. Break-even occurs in month 6. Even with cost of living, the total MBA cost (US$74,700) is recovered in approximately 9-10 months of work.

USA Student Visa and Post-Study Work for MBA Graduates 2026
Indian MBA students at DePaul are sponsored on F-1 Student Visas. After graduation, eligible graduates are eligible for Optional Practical Training (OPT) for up to 36 months — 12 months standard plus 24-month STEM extension (MBA qualifies). This allows full-time work for any US employer without additional visa sponsorship.
- F-1 visa requires proof of financial support (tuition + living costs); DePaul provides I-20 form for visa application.
- OPT work permit is filed by your employer’s HR within 60 days of graduation; processing takes 4-6 months.
- H-1B visa sponsorship is available post-OPT; DePaul MBA graduates are eligible and competitive.
- Spouses on dependent F-2 visas may apply for EAD (work permit) but require H-4 or independent visa for permanent employment.
Visa reality: 36 months OPT gives you 3 years to build US work experience and apply for H-1B or green card sponsorship. Most Indian MBA graduates secure H-1B sponsorship from their OPT employer in year 2-3, converting to permanent residency pathway.

| EdUniversal MBA Ranking | 50-53 in North America | 2025-2026 | General management MBA; evaluated on employer outcomes and graduate satisfaction. |
| QS Global MBA Rankings | 601-650 (Business & Management) | 2026 | Broader category; university-wide business reputation included. |

Source: EdUniversal MBA Ranking 2025-2026, QS World University Rankings 2026, verified June 2026.
Honest take: EdUniversal’s top-50-in-North-America ranking is legitimate and carries weight with multinational employers. It is not a global top-50 rank (which commands premium salaries), but it is a genuine competitive edge over unranked programmes. For Indian applicants, DePaul’s ranking + Chicago location + OPT eligibility create a strong ROI proposition at this price point.
DePaul MBA FAQs
Ques. What are the admission odds for Indian students applying to DePaul’s full-time MBA?
Ans. DePaul’s overall acceptance rate is 74%, and international students comprise 42-50% of MBA cohort. Indian applicants specifically make up 20-25% of the international cohort. If you have a 3.2+ GPA, IELTS 6.5+, and 2+ years work experience, your odds of admission within 3-4 weeks are approximately 65-75%. Weaker candidates (3.0 GPA, IELTS 6.0) face 40-50% odds. Stronger candidates (3.5+ GPA, IELTS 7.0+) see 80%+ odds and merit scholarship eligibility.
Ques. Is GMAT or GRE required for admission to DePaul MBA?
Ans. No. DePaul MBA is test-optional; GMAT and GRE are not required. However, if you submit a GMAT score of 550-650 or GRE equivalent (300-310), it strengthens your application and increases merit scholarship odds. If your GPA is below 3.2, submitting a competitive test score helps offset it. Most admitted students who submit tests score 550-650 GMAT; median is around 580.
Ques. How does the 15-month DePaul MBA compare to 2-year MBA programmes in terms of career outcomes and cost?
Ans. DePaul’s 15-month format saves approximately US$18,000 in tuition (one fewer semester) and US$15,000 in living costs compared to 2-year programmes, totalling US$33,000 cost savings. Employment outcomes are equivalent: both are 93% placement within 6 months and both carry same work visa eligibility (36-month OPT). The trade-off is intensity: DePaul’s 15-month requires heavier course loads and less elective flexibility, but employers do not differentiate on completion time. Total programme cost at DePaul is US$44,700 vs US$65,000-75,000 at comparable 2-year programmes.
Ques. Do I need to find a sponsor in the US before applying, or does DePaul support visa sponsorship for F-1 and OPT?
Ans. No sponsor is required before applying. DePaul will issue your I-20 form (visa sponsorship document) upon admission; you use this to apply for F-1 student visa at the US embassy in India. For work visa purposes post-graduation: OPT is issued directly to you by USCIS (not employer-dependent), and H-1B sponsorship is provided by your employer once you secure a job. Most DePaul MBA graduates secure H-1B sponsorship from their post-OPT employer in years 2-3.
Ques. What is the Indian student community like at DePaul, and what are typical salary ranges for Indian MBA graduates?
Ans. Indian students comprise 20-25% of DePaul’s MBA cohort (approximately 30-40 students per cohort of 160-175). The Indian student association organises networking events, cultural celebrations, and peer study groups. Typical starting salaries for Indian MBA graduates are US$100,000-120,000 (INR 9.53-11.43 Crore), with ranges dependent on function: finance roles average US$115,000-130,000, consulting US$100,000-125,000, and marketing US$85,000-110,000. Many Indian graduates work in Chicago, New York, or San Francisco; some relocate to India or Canada within 5 years post-graduation on work visas.
DePaul University’s 15-month MBA is best suited for early-career professionals (2-5 years experience) seeking a rapid, affordable pathway to US credentials and permanent residency sponsorship. The EdUniversal #50-53 ranking, 93% employment rate, and test-optional admission make it particularly accessible to Indian candidates with strong GPAs but limited standardised test preparation time. Cost-effective and employer-recognised, it delivers a realistic ROI break-even within 9-10 months of full-time work.

I chose DePaul because of it's location as I wanted to live in a large, diverse area. The MBA program is broad and recognized globally. My experience at DePaul was absolutely great. I enjoyed the campus life and living in Lincoln Park, Chicago. I also enjoyed the classes and professors. Many of my professors had their doctorate degree. I also gained real work experience by working full time during my time as an MBA student. The professors and faculty at DePaul understood that I was a full time worker and were flexible based on these demands. I would definitely recommend DePaul to other students.
