State University of New York Maritime College (SUNY Maritime College) was the first of its kind in United States. It is only one of the seven degree granting maritime schools in the country.

• The college offers 10 major programs in bachelor’s degree, 2 in master’s degree and 1 in associate of applied sciences. Some of the well-known majors offered by the college are - Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering; Marine Science/Merchant Marine Officer; Business, Management, and Marketing; Mechanical Engineering; and Electrical and Electronics Engineering.
• There are 4 residence halls out of which 3 are completely meant for regimental and the last one may also provide space for civilians.
