The Indian Embassy in Tehran has issued an advisory asking Indian students and other nationals currently in Iran to leave the country by available means, including commercial flights, in view of the evolving security situation amid protests and work stoppages.
The advisory applies to Indian students, pilgrims, businesspersons and tourists, and follows an earlier government advisory issued earlier this month.

Embassy Urges Caution and Avoidance of Protest Areas
In its official advisory, the embassy asked Indian citizens and Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) to exercise due caution, avoid areas witnessing protests or demonstrations, and remain in close contact with embassy officials.
“It is reiterated that all Indian citizens and PIOs should exercise due caution, avoid areas of protests or demonstrations, stay in contact with the Indian Embassy in Iran and monitor local media for any developments,” the advisory stated.
Indian nationals have also been asked to keep passports and other travel or identity documents readily available.
Emergency Helplines and Contact Details Issued
To assist Indian nationals, the embassy has activated multiple emergency helpline numbers:
- +98 912 810 9115
- +98 912 810 9109
- +98 912 810 9102
- +98 993 217 9359
Email assistance is available at [email protected], the embassy said.
Registration on MEA Portal Requested
- The embassy has urged all Indians in Iran who have not yet registered to do so through the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) registration portal.
- Those facing internet disruptions in Iran may have their family members in India complete the registration on their behalf, according to the advisory.
Safety Concerns for Indian Students, Including Medical Students
The advisory comes amid reports of protests and work stoppages in parts of Iran, including Tehran, with reports of injuries and casualties raising concerns over the safety of foreign nationals.
According to official estimates, a significant number of Indian students are enrolled in medical colleges across Iran. Student bodies and families have expressed concern and urged authorities to keep contingency and evacuation arrangements ready if the situation worsens.
What Indian Students Should Do Now
- Leave Iran using available commercial travel options
- Avoid protest zones and public gatherings
- Register on the MEA portal immediately
- Keep travel documents accessible
- Stay in regular contact with the Indian Embassy
With protests continuing in parts of Iran, the Indian government has issued a clear safety-first advisory for its citizens. Indian students and nationals are advised to prioritise departure, stay registered, and remain alert as the situation develops.
