Three M.Sc. programs close May 31 (16 days away): International Automotive Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, and Information Systems. Indian students need 3 to 4 weeks for APS processing and 8 to 12 weeks for the German student visa. Starting APS today is the minimum viable timeline for a September 2026 arrival. For all master's programs, admission results are announced approximately 4 weeks after the respective deadline.

FH Aachen Eligibility Requirements for Indian Students

FH Aachen eligibility follows different tracks for bachelor's and master's programs. The language requirement is the defining variable: German at B2 is needed for most bachelor's programs; English-taught master's programs require IELTS or TOEFL. One rule applies to all Indian applicants without exception: IELTS or TOEFL is mandatory even if the entire previous education was in English.

What are the FH Aachen requirements for bachelor's programs?

• Higher education entrance qualification equivalent to the German Abitur.

The 3-semester and 4-semester Mechatronics variants have the same June 30 deadline. The key distinction: the 3-semester program accepts only applicants with a Mechatronics-specific bachelor's (210 ECTS). All other engineering bachelor's holders apply to the 4-semester variant, which starts with a foundation semester. Indian students with B.E./B.Tech in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering apply to the 4-semester variant.

FH Aachen Bachelor's and IOS Programs

FH Aachen bachelor's programs are primarily German-taught. Indian students without C1 German should target the 5 IOS programs at Jülich campus. IOS programs are bilingual (English and German) with lower German language entry requirements. All bachelor's programs for foreign degree holders apply via uni-assist by July 15. IOS programs at Jülich are the entry point for Indian students without DSH-2 German. Instruction is bilingual, and German language skills improve over the program duration. Jülich campus is 30 minutes from Aachen by train. Forschungszentrum Jülich (one of Germany's largest research centres) provides internship access in physics, chemistry, and engineering.

FH Aachen Acceptance Rate

FH Aachen University of Applied Sciences does not officially publish its acceptance rate, but unofficial sources estimate it to be between 45% and 51%. The university is moderately to highly competitive depending on the program. The Mechanical Engineering program has held the #1 rank among German universities of applied sciences by WirtschaftsWoche for four consecutive years, suggesting consistent high demand. Master's programs with unrestricted admission (no NC) accept all eligible applicants who meet academic and language thresholds.

For Indian applicants, the effective filter varies by program track. Rejections cluster around three causes: IELTS below the program minimum, German certificate below the enrollment requirement, and module descriptions not demonstrating subject alignment.

How competitive is FH Aachen for Indian students?

The M.Sc. Mechatronics (4-semester) is unrestricted. Eligible applicants who meet the IELTS 6.0 and bachelor's ECTS requirements are admitted without GPA-based ranking. The M.Sc. Information Systems is also unrestricted but adds a GRE requirement: 70th percentile in at least one of three GRE sections. Programs with NC (restricted admission) rank applicants by grade conversion on the German scale. 

Key insight: FH Aachen is physically in the same city as RWTH Aachen University (a research university with ~10% acceptance rate). 2. Go to h1.fh-aachen.de. Register and create an account in the FH Aachen Application Portal.
3. Upload: transcripts, IELTS/TOEFL, module descriptions, CV. Add GRE for Information Systems.
4. Submit by the program-specific deadline (June 30 for Mechatronics; verify for others).
5. Receive admission decision approximately 4 weeks after the deadline.
6. Set up blocked account: €11,904 (₹13.35 Lakhs) via Fintiba or Expatrio. Allow 10 business days.
7. Apply for German Student Visa (Type D) via VFS Global. Visa fee: €75 (₹8,409).

For Bachelor's Programs and IOS Programs (uni-assist)

5. Receive FH Aachen admission decision after uni-assist forwards the application.

Note: Master's applications at FH Aachen do not go through uni-assist. The FH Aachen portal at h1.fh-aachen.de is the only accepted submission channel for master's programs. Sending a master's application to uni-assist will not reach FH Aachen's admissions team and will not be processed.
