Course Curriculum

10

  • The syllabus is up to date. Rather it is cutting edge and forefront in the science. For my internship I got an opportunity to work at a national lab in US.
  • I am a PhD student so there is no class as such. No.of classes per day depends on how many classes you have selected. it totally depends on us. We can select how many classes we want and for which semester.

Admission Experience

  • University of Wisconsin Madison theoretical chemistry and physcs is rated extremely hightly in US. We have really excepetional faculty and strong research (We received 2026 physics nobel prize). Overall experience is great. Wonderful faculty and labs.
  • During my admission process GRE was not required. IELTS is required. IELTS score was 8.

Faculty

10

  • They are very well qualified and approachable. Not exactly sure about the faculty:student ratio, but it's likely around 1:5.

Campus Life

10

  • It has reallygood extracurricural activities/clubs. I ma actively involved in taekwondo and triathalon clubs here in my university. Research facilities are exceptional. Leading in many fields, neutral atom quantum computing, particle physics, high energy physics.

Part Time Jobs

  • For non-academic jobs its usually arounf 16/hr. For TA and RA is much better. For non-academic jobs, we can directly apply from the online UW website.
  • For academic jobs usually we have to contact the repsevtive professor whose teaching the class or doing research. Non-academic positions its pretty easy almost always available. But acaemic positions might be a bit tricky. Maximum allowed for full time is 40 hrs and part time is 20 hours per week.

Placement

10

  • From what I know almost all were employed. They usually find jobs on their own or by the contacts from the professors/PI/friends.

Accommodation

Off Campus
8

  • Adding to the accomodation info, I am staying in a studio, it costs around $1050 per month rent(including heat). $60 wifi and phone. $40 electricity.

Exams

  • Statement of Purpose, LOR(3), CV, IELTS/TPEFL. These test scores are just qualifying criteria. They don't decide if you will get it. I think they focus a lot on the research backgroud and publications.

Fees

  • PhD students dont need to pay any fees. All the classes fees are covered. We only have to pay segregated fees(an approximate amount of $900) every semester. But that gets easily covered in the stipend that we get. After completing prelims exam, even that amount gets reduced.
