Course Curriculum

10

  • I would say level of difficulty is 5/10
  • It entirely depends on the professor and course that you take. Most of the professors are chill and easygoing. They would rather appreciate your Methodology and processes than the results.
  • Typically you would have at max 2 classes per day if you plan efficiently. for 4 days a week in the working hours (9-5)
  • Average number of class is 30(includes Undergrads and PhDs)
  • 20 Indian students were enrolled in the course

Admission Experience

  • I applied for the following universities:
    • Georgia State University - Selected
    • University of Utah - Rejected
    • George Mason University - Rejected
    • Northeastern University - Accepted
    • University of Missouri - Accepted
  • The reasons for admission were the reputation of my Undergrad (IIT), Strong SOP, and Good IELTS/GRE Scores.
  • The rejections are mainly because of my Low GPA and Me being from Electrical Background might have hampered my chances compared to my peers
  • The main reason I chose Georgia State University over others is I got a quick response from the college; back then they were good at communicating the status of the admission process.
  • The Promise of securing Assistantship and funding my tuition fees sounded really appealing, as It helped me not to drown in debt while focusing on upskilling without worrying about financial obligations.
  • Standard Application process with Three LORs , an SOP, GRE/IELTS , and other aspects of the portfolio.
  • I am unsure about minimum scores, but 6.5+ in IELTS and 310 in GRE would be a baseline.
  • FALL 2022, I completed my bachelor's and wanted to transition my career to data science and the US seemed the most attractive destination at that point.
  • The entire admission process took around 4 months , beware of post admit formalities like Student Loan Process and VISA Interview process as they might consume lot of your time .
  • Ideally you should have completed your application process by 31st of January.

Faculty

8

  • 1:10 would be my best guess
  • They would use all the State of The Art teaching and Evaluation methods available.
  • The professors do not care about the Job prospects of students; they would rather focus on concepts and would appreciate students who are keen on research than looking for jobs.
  • Some professors would refer to the connections they knew, but they generally would not yield satisfactory results.

Campus Life

8

  • Georgia State University has 7 campuses across metro Atlanta: the main Atlanta Campus and 5 Perimeter campuses (Alpharetta, Clarkston, Decatur, Dunwoody, and Newton) plus Covington. It has libraries, gyms, dining halls, and health centres.
  • Students enjoy big events like Homecoming and Fall Fest. There are 500+ clubs, sports teams (Panthers!), arts shows, and volunteer groups – plenty to get involved, stay active, and have fun while studying.
  • I did not focus on extracurricular activities around the campus.

Part Time Jobs

  • I mentioned this earlier: about 90% of TA positions are secure. TAs earn between $500 and $2,000 per month. Students can work on campus, including at places like Chick-fil-A and dining halls, for up to 20 hours per week, while in summers you can essentially work close to 40 hours per week. It’s quite easy to find a part-time job while studying.
  • TAs earn between $500 and $2,000 per month. Usually one has to mail the professors and wait for the response. The best approach would be to reach out to the seniors who are working with the professor and take their guidance. some positons would be posted in handshake so keep looking for that. and for TAs there is one more process called applying on the OGMS portal, where they would decide the assignment of TAs.

Placement

8

  • Around 60–90% of GSU graduates secure jobs within 6 months. Average salaries range from $80,000 to $1,200,000 annually, depending on the field.
  • Most find jobs through campus career fairs, internships, networking, and job portals like Handshake or LinkedIn. Top recruiters include Amazon, EY, Coca-Cola, Home Depot and Delta in roles such as analysts, consultants, and developers.

Accommodation

Off Campus
8

  • I used online Platforms like Discord.
  • Rent was 1900 dollars and it was an upscale apartment downtown.
  • You generally do not feel challenged to find accommodation. The main challenge would be to find the like Minded Individuals.
  • Housing was 10 miles away from the campus but tightly integrated with the Public Transit System, So Never faced problems in terms of commuting to college and other places.

Exams

  • These are the important documents:
    • GRE
    • IELTS/TOEFL
    • Three Letters of Recommendations
    • A well-draughted Statement of Purpose
    • A Resume
    • Transcripts
    • Graduation Certificate, post Admit
  • They would require your Funds Letter
  • Interview Could be Part of Application , but it is not mandatory for all programs , you may expect Interviews to some niche programmes and PhD Applications. and They would be generally Introductory based

Fees

  • Per semester, tuition fees 17,000 dollars (Credit Based)
    • Housing -> 500-700
    • Utilities -> 100
    • transport -> 100
    • Food/restaurant -> 250
    • miscellaneous -> 200

Scholarship

  • Yes Scholarships are huge.
  • You can waive off your entire tuition fees – 15000 per semester – if you get a Graduate level Assistantship
    • I was awarded around 60,000 USD in scholarship
    • Many cohorts would receive something by the end of the first semester (> 90%)
    • On top of the scholarship, you could be paid between 750 and 2000 as stipend per month based on the position
