What Students Say
Likes
- Diversity
- Research Focus
- Closely netted campus community
Dislikes
- Nothing specific to the university, Tucson gets super hot
- It's a party school in undergrad level
Course Curriculum
- I am in research; I have not been enrolled in classes for a while now. My last class was before GPT happened. At that point I used to feel we don't have many AI related courses, which is probably not that true anymore.
- My university is a very research focused university, not much industrial focus.
- I used to take 2 courses each semester when I was taking classes, I feel like one could do 3 each semester easily. One get to choose how many classes they want in a day, there is no strict rules on that.
- I was in the COVID batch, like 10-15 per class.
Admission Experience
- I came to the university as a master's student; back then I was looking for a university which offered some combination of electrical and computer engineering. I was also looking for a cheap city to live in, which I and my family can manage without Assistantship. I don't remember much about the admission process anymore; I remember I saw the potential of getting a GRA in this particular university, so I accepted the offer.
- I love my work in the university. After working for a while in the industry, I decided to join back UofA; I have nothing bad to say. We have one of the largest MRI imaging facilities on the West Coast. I will highly recommend students to come if they are interested in imaging sciences.
- I don't remember my toefl score exactly, i think it was between 85-95, no GRE needed
Faculty
- These are very dependent on the department you are joining; some have higher than others. Faculties in general are helpful.
Campus Life
- As a GRA, I never got a lot of time to take part in all these activities; I'm probably not the best person to comment.
Part Time Jobs
- University pays the minimum wage of $13/hr. I only did RAs during my master's and even now I am an RA, and it happened by reaching out to the professors. Number of TAs and RAs depends on the department you are in; in ECE most grad students have TAs or RAs.
Placement
- I got a job while I was enrolled in my master's programme; my salary was 80k/year. I am not sure about the average salary, but I know my salary was in the lower range.
- I got my job through indeed, campus has companies coming over, but it's not super helpful for international students.
Accommodation
- I found out about my accommodation from senior Indian students who were already here. I pay $895 now.
Exams
- Only TOEFL
- All the basics – LOR, resume, SOP
- Make sure to reach out to the professors for GRAs
Fees
-
I remember back in 2021 it was 18 lakhs INR per semester; I'm not sure anymore.
