Course Curriculum
- Yes, the course was difficult but it all depends upon the professors. It was a mix of theoretical and practical at labs.
- Fewer physical classes, more online classes. The Business Analytics course is very interesting and challenging. It requires attention and time to understand. In a day we have 3-4 classes at max. The average student strength is 60 in our batch. 50% Indians.
Admission Experience
- I applied to 2-5 universities in the UK and received offers from 2 universities. I got offers for two different programmes at the University of Surrey. However, I joined for business analytics due to my interest. I was shortlisted at all universities for 1-2 programmes. Rejection at some universities was due to a mismatch in course vs my experience & educational qualifications.
- Also, I applied very late so all the processes were very slow.
- Yes, I connected with my friends in the UK and got positive feedback about the university specific to my course, business analytics. Eligibility: acceptable english score > 80 and educational qualification with professional experience as an add-on. You need to provide a cover page and resume with all educational certificates and work experience certificates. They will review and shortlist. The university was very nice based on feedback and online reviews.
- 30 days. It's better to apply as early as possible to have a sufficient buffer. Min 2 months prior to uni start date. I applied to the Feb intake. 1 month required for sanction of educational loan or keeping amount secured in FD. Process is online and you can find the status on the website itself. You can call the uni support centre for any clarification. They are happy to help. Visa sponsorship takes 15 days.
Faculty
- Faculty members are highly experienced, mostly professors. Few are Indians. They are ready to clarify doubts but are more self-taught and self-studied.
- I admire Andy & Vikash. They are highly talented and spend much time with all of us. They are ready to meet physically and discuss. They can refer you for jobs and placements, as they have their own companies and good networking.
Campus Life
- There is a startup club, which is the best. There is one campus but hostels/accommodations are at various locations. They have Christmas festivals, tech events, marquees, etc. Sports event happen but since it is very distant from the university, I hardly join.
- Library block is a very high-rise building with full 24/7 automation with desktop printers, etc. Very silent place to stay.
Part Time Jobs
- Maximum hours allowed to work is 20 hrs per week. There are on-campus jobs like student support in myhive. They pay standard pay of 10 pounds per hour. Flexible part-time. There are also cafes and food stalls inside campus that provide jobs. No one gets teaching assistant jobs. On-campus jobs involve only part-time work. It is easy to get campus jobs but very few vacancies.
- Sainsbury's, Tesco, Five Guys, and Nando's. They work in hotels, warehouses, and universities. Some get part-time jobs in corporate and private companies if they have 3-4 years' experience.
- Also there are volunteer jobs and jobs in farm stalls, etc. Yes, for part-time jobs you need to give interviews, which are mandatory. But its easy and you can crack it in a month's time. It is always good to prepare competitive questions prior to any interview.
Placement
- Only 10% got jobs in 1 month. Rest 40% in 3 months. And another 30% in 6 months. There are a lot of job opportunities and the salary is a minimum of 30 lakhs. You will get a lot of interview opportunities, but cracking them requires discipline and attention to detail.
- The interviewer can reject for a simple mistake, as it is highly challenging to get a job in global companies. However, small micro companies can offer you a job easily.
Accommodation
- I used university-provided accommodation. It was affordable and as said, you can pay quarterly and also defer payment if any personal financial issue arises. Uni is cooperative. I directly booked on the uni website. Monthly rent is around 30K.
- I recommend staying in stag hill court where most Asian students stay. They are very cooperative and supportive. It is good to study together and have fun also. Facebook groups are available. You can meet students.
Exams
- There was no interview. Entire online process. Documents should be submitted in due respect to avoid delay. Statement of Purpose, cover page, resume, and educational and professional certificates. They might call you for a video interview if required but there is no mandate.
- Process is seamless and fast. Keep valid passports and details should match other documents for safety and faster processing.
Fees
- Tuition fee: 19500 pounds; advance: 2000 pounds; living expense: 1000 pounds per month
- Hostel Rent u need to pay quarterly approximately 30K Per month in Indian currency. Food cost is 20K per month. Travel expenses is 10K per month if you prefer public transport.
- Other expenses are 10K miscellaneous. University food pricing is affordable and available inside campus. Fees you need to pay in installments or in advance as possible. There is no mandate.
Scholarship
- Almost all international students received up to a 2000 pounds scholarship or deduction in tuition fee. I had also received.
- We had 60 students in total for our batch. All have received the scholarship. There are no other international scholarships sponsored by the university.
- However, you can apply for a common scholarship applicable to international students studying in UK.
