Course Curriculum
- There are good courses with great professors and there are good courses with casual professors too.
- They give you intense coursework and casual coursework options too.
- It is upto you which courses and which professors you choose to learn.
Admission Experience
- I applied to 5 colleges. I got accepted to SUNY Albany, Florida international University, Clark University, University of South Florida and University of North Carolina. I got accepted in all of them accepted University of North Carolina for MS in Data Science. I think rejection was basically because of low GRE score and less or no experience in data science
- I think USF was economical and location was great that was my main reason to choose it.
- I applied through online application with 200
- dollars admission fees with standard documentation like SOP, 3 LORS, GRE, TOEFL and Degrees and Transcripts.
- GRE and TOEFL/IELTS are the accepted exams. It was waived off in Covid but I think it is back now. the minimum GRE is 295. TOEFL/IELTS requirements is average.
- After application I reached out to Program
- Coordinator and She helped to get the admission result quickly. Through admission support was amazing and got my i20 in 3 weeks after application submission.
Class Schedule
- It is a mix of both. 2-3 classes can schedule a day.
- From morning 7 am to 12 and 1 PM to 5:30 PM and 6PM to 10 PM
Faculty
- Great professors like Anol, Kaushik and Harvey. They give you intense coursework. It is upto which courses and which professors you choose to learn. Nowadays it is full of people with not so great technical backgrounds as they are increasing the intake. So you will have make your friends circle.
- 80-90 percent are Indians
- Its 40 to 1 - faculty to student ratio.
- Practical emphasis is more in the course work

Every facility is available on main campus. Like recreational centers and libraries and sports.
Major campus festivals like Home coming parade and Diwali Events and Christmas parties are celebrated. Frequent cultural activities are performed in the amphitheater and ballroom. Students of Indian organizations helps in conducting such events
Part Time Jobs
- Its like 3-5 students per call would have TA, RA and DA positions
- Pay range is 10-15 USD per dollar depending on the budget of the department
- Like working on dining and book store and AV assistant and athletics department assistant
- Maximum 20 hours per week
- It is difficult as there was very less position available and majority are filled with referrals
- Indian students at USF usually look for jobs that fit their schedules and are easy to manage along with classes. Popular part-time jobs include: On-campus: • Working in the library • Research or teaching assistant roles • Helping in student services (like front desk jobs)Cafeteria or campus store work. • Check the USF website for on-campus job postings. • Visit places like the campus library or student services office to ask about available roles.
Placement
- It is 90 percent of the students who would secure job within 6 months after graduation
- Average salary would be 90-100k per year
- Student would find jobs using career fairs and mostly networking and cold emails and online job applications
- Students on the campus would most likely placed in Amazon or regular fintech and health care companies. They mostly prepare for python and SQL and 3-5 rounds of interviews process
Accommodation
- I found my accommodation through WhatsApp group for Fall admission from India. Other options are through Facebook groups and Indian association group
- Monthly rent 500 for sharing room and 1000 for a single room
- Challenges are mostly to get accommodation in C route off campus as its closest to
- Campus and tough to find a good room
- Try to find roommates before coming here through WhatsApp group and meet them in India before committing online and try building rapport
- Accommodation was 1 mile away
Exams
- GRE, TOEFL/IELTS (was optional during covid) I had low GRE 302 but my work experience made it up
- SOP, 3 LORS and CVs and transcripts and degree
- No interview for me but if you get a TA position then you might be interviewing for
- that position.
Fees
- Total 33 credits with 1000 USD per credit with minimum of 3 courses per semester i.e 9
- Credits (9k USD) for each semester
- Monthly expenses would be 150-200 USD for groceries and 500 USD (room sharing) and 1000 USD (entire room).
- 100-200 USD should be miscellaneous.
- Shuttle buses should cover transportation around campus and City bus is free to students to travel across city
Scholarship
- No scholarships was awarded to me. There was one scholarship called as Dean scholarship to which I applied and was not selected.
- Very less scholarship opportunities for international students. Other unofficial scholarships are awarded by community or persons based on ethnicity sponsored by renowned individuals.
- I heard very few international students received scholarships. It’s mostly awarded to undergraduate courses
