What Students Say
Likes
- I really like the diverse community on campus.
- The best thing is Lewis university offers lots of on campus jobs for graduate and undergraduate students
- love the campus, its vibe and the most wonderful thing, university’s own airport
Dislikes
- On campus residents are given more priority
- Career services for international students should improve more
- International students office and it’s budget , events involvement should increase
Course Curriculum
-
The initial few subjects did feel somewhat easy, but in my third semester, it began to become increasingly challenging. The curricula of courses were much more on theoretical knowledge, with all the assignments requiring lots of independent problem-solving. Sadly, not too much practical stuff could be found, at least from my side, in those courses.
-
The most positive and negative aspects of the course varied by subject and depended on the instructors. Some courses were highly engaging and insightful, while others felt less impactful.
Admission Experience
-
Nigara university - they wanted evaluation, i don’t want to invest money when I had option
Webster university - received i20 but didn’t went because of location
DePaul university - received i20 approved with $5000 scholarship, fee was high even after scholarship
Lewis university - accepted -
People says that Chicago airport immigration hates Lewis, but it’s one thing, Lewis university is the best university anybody can ask for,
They have lots of on campus options and the dorms are near. -
Overall admission process was smooth,
I just had to submit my bachelor transcript (my percentage was 65), my PTE score (58), three letter of recommendation, resume and statement of purpose -
I don’t think they need much score of anything, you can get in with it, that will give you either a waiver or hourly basis.
-
You can probably go in to Lewis website, find International Office and email. Them for more inf
-
I applied for the intake of Fall 2023 at Lewis University. To be honest, the major reason behind my choice to apply to this university was how beautiful and vibrant the campus felt. It was very convincing. I began my application during mid-May to June. The whole admission process from submission till receiving my acceptance and I-20 took about 4-5 months.
Class Schedule
-
Generally, two classes are held in a day for the College of Aviation, Science, and Technology courses.
-
The usual timings are from 3:45 PM to 5:50 PM for one class and 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM for the next.
-
One of my classes has 26 students, while the other has 17. Among them, only 3 Indian students are in the class of 26, and 2 are in the class of 17.
Faculty
-
The faculty-to-student ratio in my course is not defined, but based on class sizes of 17 to 26 students, it allows for moderate interaction with faculty. However, the quality of education and interaction is limited as professors mostly focus on the curriculum and their respective subjects. There is not much detail of teaching methodology, and what is offered alone is inadequate to get a job. Students have to study on their own, acquire certification, and make professional networks.
-
Regarding job support, no faculty member engages with international students in helping them secure part-time or full-time employment through personal connections or referrals. They only concentrate on course material, while the student has to find career development on his own.
-
One of the professors I really respect is Safwan Omeri, Assistant Dean of the College of Aviation and Sciences. He was one of the few who actually listened to my ambitions and guided me. He supported me in summer to develop my document chatbot, which is a highlight of my university experience.
Campus Life
- Lewis university have 3 campuses one in romeoville, one in mexico and one in oakbrook.
library, sports facilities, and medical services all of these are available on campus - We have yearly lewis fest, winter fest, holi and ramadhan are the festivals we celebrate on campus, we have these community hour events that took place every wednesday 12:00 - 1:00 pm
- We have a student engagement activities departments who host all of these events
Part Time Jobs
-
It is a very competitive process to secure a TA, RA, or DA position, but the reward is a 100% tuition scholarship. GA and student worker positions are much more plentiful and available. Student worker jobs pay $15/hour, while GA positions offer a 75% tuition fee waiver and $500 monthly. Students can work up to 20 hours per week. Getting a GA or student worker role is competitive but manageable with effort.
-
Students usually make approximately $15 an hour with part-time jobs. It is not difficult to get hired, but it can be pretty competitive depending on the job. Students usually search for openings through Handshake or jobs.lewisu.edu.
-
The process requires searching for available positions, creating a custom resume and cover letter, attending interviews, and sending follow-ups to potential employers. Constantly checking job listings and applying early increases one's chances of getting hired.
Placement
- I have noticed that less than 10 percent have jobs within 6 months, and the starting salary is about $22–$24 per hour.
- Most students get their job through LinkedIn, networking events, and consultancy.
- To the best of my knowledge, my classmates have yet to get a job, and no company as i know of really hire international students at Lewis University.
Accommodation
- I found my accommodation through WhatsApp groups, which I highly recommend.
- My rent was $350, excluding utilities, which were around $380–$400. The main challenge was finding good roommates.
- Most Lewis University students live in Naperville (25 mins), Romeoville (15 mins), or Devon (1 hour). I recommend joining reliable WhatsApp groups for housing.
Exams

IELTS, TOEFL, GMAT, GRE, PTE, SAT
Statement of purpose, 3- LOR, CV -

Fees
-
It has credit based fee system , 850 per semester
-
For an international student at Lewis University, the tuition fee is from $795 to $1,170 per credit hour, depending on the program, Room and board for on-campus housing is $7,700–$9,100 per semester, including meal plans. $200 per semester for student services and $1,000 annually for health insurance.
-
Monthly living expenses, including rent, utilities, transportation, and groceries, average $1,200–$1,800 for off-campus students.
Scholarship
-
International students have limited scholarship opportunities, with the main option being a Graduate Assistantship.
-
As a Graduate Assistant in University Advancement, I received a tuition waiver covering 70% of the tuition costs and a monthly stipend of $500.
-
This is one of the few forms of financial aid available to international students. While other batchmates also have assistantships, these positions are competitive and awarded based on academic performance and relevant skills.
-
On average, a small number of international students receive such scholarships each year, as the opportunities are limited, and award amounts vary depending on the department and role
