The Department ofÊClassical & Archaeological StudiesÊis based in the School of European Culture and Languages, which is one of the largest academic schools in the University. Staff are renowned for the quality of their research and for their enthusiasm as teachers. The department is small and friendly which means you quickly develop close working relationships with lecturers and seminar leaders.

Much of European civilisation grew out of the classical world so it is not surprising that it is still highly relevant today. TheÊClassical and Archaeological Studies (Hons) fromÊUniversity of KentÊis a wide ranging programme. You can choose to follow a specialised pathway, either Literature, History or Archaeology, or you can include elements from all these areas in one programme.

In your first year, you take introductory modules on archaeology and the civilisations of Greece and Rome. You can also study beginnersÕ Latin or Greek.Ê

In your second and final years, you either follow your specific pathway, for example on the History pathway you could study everyday life in the Roman empire or religions in ancient Greece. It is also possible to take a fieldwork practice module where you discover the latest techniques used in archaeological sites. In your final year, you complete a dissertation or extended essay (based on performance or interest) in a subject of your choice, supported by a supervisor.Ê
