Course Curriculum

10

  • The course was academically rigorous but rewarding. Classes used to combine lectures, seminars, and group work. They had a strong emphasis on independent learning, critical analysis, and applying theory to real-world problems. There was a diversity in the batches of students. Students came from India, China, Africa, Europe, and the UK.
  • They brought a varied perspective to classroom discussions. Group projects were insightful mainly because of the cultural mix. This helped to build teamwork and communication skills. Assessments were a combination of coursework, presentations, and exams. This helped to keep things balanced.

Admission Experience

  • I applied to the University of Essex, the University of Edinburgh, University College London, University College Cambridge, and the University of Bath.
  • I received acceptance from all except the University of Bath and Cambridge.
  • That rejection was because of my low grades in IELTS.
  • University of Essex does not care about the ILETS as soon as I studied in an English medium during my bachelor's. But I accepted Essex was because of the low fees.
  • The admission process took like a month. it was an easy process. The visa process also took a month, and the passport intake took a while. its basically up to you, and how much you pay depends on the speed of the intake. My uni, on the other had intakes everyone who has been studying in engilsh medium school or university earlier. I applied in May, and everything was completed by July, and I started my uni in August.

Faculty

10

  • The faculty members at Essex were approachable, knowledgeable, and genuinely invested in our growth. Most of them had industry or research experience, and they brought that into the classroom.
  • I really appreciated how supportive they were when it came to dissertation guidance, career advice, or even just discussing research interests. Office hours were always respected, and they encouraged participation and critical thinking.

Campus Life

10

  • The campus life at the University of Essex was vibrant and inclusive. There was always some or the other events happening. International food festivals, cultural nights, and Diwali and Holi celebrations which were organized by the Indian Society, music gigs , career fairs and charity fundraising events. The Students Union supports over 100 societies and clubs ranging from sports like cricket , badminton , football to cultural societies such as the Bollywood dance society, south asian society. I was a part of the Deabate society and the Indian society . This was a great way to meet like minded people and feel at home. Sports facilities are excellent and I occasionally used the gym and joined football games too.

Part Time Jobs

  • On campus, there are plenty of opportunities if you apply early — roles include working in the Students’ Union shop, bar, cafes, reception desks, library, IT support, or even helping with university events. The University also hires student ambassadors who help with open days and campus tours, which is a very flexible and rewarding job.
  • Off-campus, Colchester town does not offer many jobs, but if you're lucky, you can find jobs in restaurants, pubs, cafes, grocery stores, and some small retail outlets. Many students also sign up with recruitment agencies in Colchester or London for temporary shifts in warehouses, events, or hospitality.
  • Most Indian students tend to find part-time work in hospitality, retail, and on-campus roles. In Colchester town, popular options include working at restaurants, supermarkets like Tesco and Aldi, or coffee shops. But as it was a very small town, the Part time oportunity was very limited. Some students also commute to London on weekends for better-paying. On-campus, roles like library assistant and research assistant are quite popular.

Placement

10

  • After the completion of my course at the University of Essex, I discovered that the career services team was very proactive and they supported us with full-time opportunities. They regularly hosted employer networking events, job fairs, and workshops on CVs and interviews. Many graduates go into sectors like consulting, finance, data analytics, IT, marketing, and public policy.
  • That depends on their degree. Being close to London was an advantage, as many companies that recruit at this university have their offices in London, and also the university has good links with employers in the region. I noticed that for international students, roles in data, tech, and research were quite accessible, especially under the graduate route visa, which gives you 2 years to work in the UK after graduation.

Accommodation

Off Campus

  • The campus life at Essex was vibrant and inclusive. There was always something happening — international food festivals, cultural nights, Diwali and Holi celebrations organised by the Indian Society, music gigs, career networking events, and charity fundraisers.
  • The Students’ Union supports over 100 societies and clubs, ranging from sports (like cricket, badminton, football) to cultural (like the Bollywood Dance Society, South Asian Society).
  • I personally was a part of the Debate Society and the Indian Society, which was a great way to meet like-minded people and feel at home. Sports facilities are excellent, and I occasionally use the gym and join casual football games too.

Exams

  • There was no interview for my admission; everything was documented, which was taken care of by my agent. We do have to provide all the documents, i didnt take any tests except IELTS. My uni, on the other hand, accepts everyone who has been studying in an English medium school or university previously. I applied in May, and everything was completed by July, and I started my uni in August.

Fees

  • I did not stay in the uni hostel, but the accommodation I stayed in was £550 every month for one year. My college fees were £17000 for one year. My monthly expenses were £200 per month. And the accommodation fee is paid every month, but we had a choise if we want to pay in installments or pay all at once. Transferring the pay is smooth. back does that for u.

Scholarship

  • I received a £4000 scholarship, which was for all indian students.
  • There was no award amount. Every Indians receieved it.
  • Everyone who joins a UK university from India receives an amount of scholarship. That is all I can say. And that is all I know. I don't know about my batchmates' scholarship, which is the exact amount, because we never ask these things.
